Think we proved one thing at the last election. Boris convinced people to double down on brexit because folk were getting bored of it. Single biggest decision to effect this country in over a generation and folk voted for Boris because he said he would just get on with it.
In years to come I know my bairn will ask how we allowed Boris Johnson and his corrupt band of pals to wreck this country and all I'll be able to say is because folk were getting bored of the debate as to whether or not it was a good idea and if we wanted to work for a better deal.
We've become a nation of halfwits with the attention span of a mayfly. Everything that is happening to us now is because we have become easily manipulated. Nobody bothers to look into sod all anymore.
But yeah brexit, great opportunity missed.

To be honest the forum section of Shetlink has been dying on it's backside for years. Lack of new and vocal contributors is part of the issue. When you see the same people dominating the conversation all the time you get bored with a place. Shetlink needs more people, Christ knows how you bring them in or bring old users back.

If you don't like what Nullvoid has to say then you have two options. Firstly just don't respond to them and if that doesn't work for you then use the block function. Everyone has a right to an opinion but in some people you'll just never agree and there is nothing they can say or you can say to change each others mind. IRL you just wouldn't go near each other, can do the same here.

Tell you what the wikipedia page says (clearly not written by a fan) that a man can try hard and fail but as long as he survives he can try and fail again.

I do believe we've found the one UK resident who believes the utterances from Boris' own mouth. Poor old Boris!

He's finally gotten the job he always wanted and is showing himself to be pretty useless; just watch him on PMQs and not the 5 second clips on the news. Being in bed with Mogg, Farage and Bannon you can bet your bottom dollar they're lined up to make a hefty profit from no-deal. If you think any one of them has an ounce of concern for the nation as a whole then please pass your pills around 'cause I want some

It did have one for long enough, it got wrecked by grumpy farts getting overly emotional about not getting parked where they wanted in tesco and young folk trying their best to appear on the page because it wound up the aforementioned grumpy farts. These pages are rarely fun but a prime example of the passive aggression that gets displayed on social media.

How did you arrive at less than £1000, if you reckon stone delivered is £35 a tonne and you'll need at least 600 tonnes of the stuff you're at £21k before you even put the digger bucket in the ground.

This discussion is exactly about Tommy Robinson.
It looks like he is using this court case to raise publicity for his own cause, not for the good of the victims.

Maybe it's different where you come from but where I come from shooting someones animals is considered a little bit strange to put it mildly and I certainly wouldn't casually dismiss it or categorise it as no worse than keeping the rabbit population down.

If I walk into the high court in London after blowing up the royal family and say I don't recognise the legitimacy of this court because I do not recognise this country after it left roman rule and only the state of Rome can try me for what I have done. Does that make their right to try me suddenly vanish because I questioned their legitimacy?

I totally agree with the folk grumping, I mean that Outlander pish that is filmed in Fife. I've never, not once gone through a portal in time to the Jacobite revolution when in Fife, not bloody once.

I doubt Carmichael will stand at the next general election but that's not to say all the candidates that do will tick all the boxes on your virtue list.

While I think he's gotten off with it (i'm not surprised) I still think the case wouldn't have been brought if he was sitting on a massive majority like he was after the previous election. He may be a liar but I still think he'd be a better representative for the isles than Danus Skene.

It's funny I was speaking to my mother about this at the weekend and she wants him to stand again in a by election and she said she would even vote for him again because the alternative isn't something that will do the Isles much good but at the same time she realises that he'll never likely get re-elected. Also seems to be a generational thing with the older folks being more disappointed with him and that he should step down as point of principle wheras a few of the younger folk I've spoken to about it reckon there is nothing that bad about him toughing it out as they've seen far worse in the last few years from other politicians.

As far as I'm concerned it was disappointing what he did, not surprising and I'm damn sure plenty of other candidates the nation over did worse. However, if your reasons for wanting Carmichael to stand down are purely moralistic don't kid yourself on the alternatives being put forward at a by election will be any more noble than Alistair is. After all nobody is perfect.

Well some folk can handle drink and some folk can't. Shetland's biggest problem with drink is getting it into the younger generations heads that they don't have to start at 14 and it isn't a requirement for attending social events. I'm no hypocrit I drank underage but it never took a grip of me like it did some of my contemporaries and I knew when to stop. Best thing that could happen to the isles is responsible adults start behaving responsibly and stop bairns drinking until an age that a grain of with might have taken seed. The unfortunate thing is plenty of underage drinkers are doing with their folks consent and that's alright if their monitoring it and stopping someone chugging a litre of vodka.

On the original topic It's fair to say anyone heading down the pub should leave their blade at home or in their vehicle so it doesn't become a temptation to be drawn if fisticuffs ensue over an argument about who gets to order their baked tattie and cheese first. Like the OP I also carry a blade, short enough to be legal but I'm sure if stopped by John Law they'd be asking questions for why I have it (cutting string when setting stuff out if folks must know). I learned my knife skills in the Cubs of all places and having to behave responsibly with a blade meant I got a lovely badge for my efforts.

Personally I find the racism argument a little weak on this one, it's not racism it's more xenophobia. I don't think those who fear the influence of incomers is as bothered about their skin colour, white, black, asian or Orcadian doesn't bother them it's just they're not a Shetlander.

The Minister for promoting Norway doesn't strike me as racist but he does strike me as a tad reluctant to accept incoming people particularly when they have an impact on his vision for the isles.
