  1. The Under 21 Parish Cup is a great tournament and its a shame that it hasn't been played this summer either as a one day 7 a side tournament or as an 11 a side knockout tournament. I don't know what is happening with it this year but hopefully something will be properly organised for next years tournament.
  2. The league should be very tight with 6 of the teams having a realistic chance of winning it. Thistle and Ness might struggle but they should still pick up points and be competitive throughout the season. Scalloway look likely to be much improved with several good signings.
  3. I hear Unst are signing Craig Gordon on loan from Sunderland at the end of the premiership season as it will help him regain match sharpness after his spell on the sidelines. He will be competing for the number 1 jersey with Paul Bell and another young unst goalkeeping starlet who is simply known as "the cat."
  4. The Unst manager Paul Bell could take the shetland team to the next level
  5. The Parish cup is like the champions league of Shetland football whilst the other tournaments are like the uefa cup. The Parish cup is the big cup competition, although there is no doubt that winning the league is on a par as it shows a team can play at a high standard for the full season.

What dates/weeks are these cup competitions scheduled to be played?
  7. The game was poor from an Aberdeen point of view with only Zander Diamond putting in a decent shift. From the start of the second half Langfield had a variety of objects thrown at him including pies and half full plastic bottles, Why? Because he used to play for Dundee. The Dundee United Keeper was in front of the Aberdeen fans in the 2nd half and after the 2nd and 3rd goal, purposefully tried to wind up the Aberdeen fans with a variety of gestures. That is why a the objects were thrown at him. Although Dundee United seemed to have a mediocre team, they were far better as Aberdeen.

    The Dons - Europe

Aberdeen rightly rejected a bid for Clark as he is the kind of player whom Aberdeen need to hold onto. Hart is a solid player but I believe the sale of him for £100-150 k would be decent business. However the Dons board should be doing all they can to keep Barry Nicholson as I would regard him as a key player with invaluable experience. It is also important to keep Diamond as he is probably our best centre back.
  9. Joe Calzaghe deserved to win the Sports personality of the year award, although if Hatton had beaten Mayweather then he probably would have deserved it. Calzaghe is undefeated and this is no mean feat considering he is in his mid thirties and has fought some great fighters. I was glad to see that Johny Wilkinson didn't win anything, because as the Rugby World cup statistics show he is really just a POOR man's Chris Patterson. I was disappointed that the Scotland football team didna win the team of the year award - it went to Englands Rugby World Cup stars!
  10. Its a game Aberdeen aren't expected to get anything out of, but you never know we might get some kind of result. We have a decent young team and it can only be beneficial to these players like Diamond, Considine and Maguire. Its definetly going to be backs to the wall stuff but defensively we can be quite good and we have players who can score although the injury to Mackie is a huge blow. C'MON DA DONS
  11. Tricky Group, But we are the MIGHTY Scotland so I have faith. Holland are there for the taking with fewer World Class players than the other big guns from pot 1. Norway at Hampden will be a test and away will be extremely difficult. Macedonia may pose problems but 6 points is a must. Iceland away could also be harder than many believe but again 6 points have to be gained. I seriously believe the Scotland squad has the capabilities of winning this group and getting us to the first major tournament in over a decade.
  12. I think it would be brilliant to get this organised for next summer. A football tournament consisting of Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales could only be good for the fans and increase the interest in British football next year. (*** MOD - Merged with existing thread ***)

    England v Croatia

Unlucky England!!!!! At least you can say you had a tough group with the mighty Russia edging you out of Euro 2008!!! Scotland and Northern Ireland can't really use that excuse because they only had France, Italy, Ukraine and Spain, Sweeden and Denmark in their groups!!!! Ledgend is an overused phrase in the English language but not if you are referring to Krankjar, Petric or Carson. Not even the Half-time introduction of the mighty David Beckhamcould get you a draw. If Carlsberg did Englands final Qualifying matches they would probably go something like this one!!!!! A ticket for the England game £30, the price of a half-time pie £3, the look on Linekar,Shearer and Wrights faces at Full-Time............... PRICELESS.

    Scotland v Italy

According to a tabloid newspaper, the referee had his bag searched at the airport on his way out of Scotland and their was ITALY scarves and shirts in his bag. It is also rumoured that after the match he ate at Rino Guttuso's restaurant in Glasgow. Now that is pretty dodgy.

I don't think the Unst-Burra situation is a done deal, nothing has been decided for definite and as the season is still a good 6 months away these two teams may look at other options before deciding what they believe is best for their respective clubs. The folk that seem to think it is a done deal are naive and ignorant, has it been formally accepted by the SFA...... NO.

    2008 - Shetland Fitba

I admit that i don't know the exact facts about Unst and Burra joining, however I believe it is only for this season as Unst will struggle for the first few weeks before students return home. Burra dropping down to the B-League means their more dedicated players who are of A-League standard still get to play at their level of football, whilst the other players from Burra are sill able to get a game in the B-League. Thus it should allow more players in these 2 communities to get regular games at the level that suits their ability.

The situation involving Burra and Unst seemed strange on first inspection but it looks to me like Burra are going to aid Unst for the first couple of months of the season, whilst also concentrating on their team. A merger between these two teams would not really make much sense.

The Parish League won't happen. The league set up maybe isna perfect but that doesna mean teams should set up their own leagues. Teams with no geographical link joining together is another bad idea. Players who are on the fringe of a team would get even less football.
