  1. I learnt the hard way with my 3G router switch off the auto-update on everything!

Currently watching HD movies on our connection with no problem so have to ask have they actually figured out what the problem is? If our broadband (EE & PlusNet) is fine (ping's a little high 100ms), why are people closer to the cable so badly affected?

  2. Scalloway seems to be the biggest problem, ours in Waas can be a little slow from time to time getting down to about 3Mbsp but folks I've been talking to in Scalloway have 0.2 or less. Know some who haven't been able to get online since last night (or early hours of this morning)

  3. Can I please request that O2 customers complain about the 3G mast being down in Lerwick. Although they swear the engineers have been working on it since it went down on the 10th I've yet to see anyone up there and currently they are not promising to have in fixed before the new year. As usual it seems that very few people are complaining so there seems very little urgency.

  4. 2miles fae the Walls exchange been worse than dire for 2 days. 1 router on plusnet the other on orange - not often that they both play up. noticed the banks RBS & HBoS  both have been having problems, anyone else having problems? when I do the speedtest thing my closest server seems to be torshavn. Not named on the plusnet account and cannot be arsed with orange, they keep trying to switch us over to EE (and pay for broadband? I ask you? why pay for something you get for free?)

  5. Open are a peer education project now based at Market House. It's volunteers are 16-25 and visit various locations including schools and youth groups about various issues. Shetland's been a bit behind in these things, but they've been doing great work. No longer do you have to cringe as your register teacher does the sex and drugs talks at you.

and as an edit I'll add their FB page https://www.facebook.com/OpenPeerEducationProject?fref=ts

  6. "guest" used to be the password for sic guest

there is free wifi in the montfield dentist, don't know about doctors

O2 have 3G in town and Vodafone have 3G in Walls.

I'm surprised you can't use the 2G signal. Even my 4G Phone can use the O2 2G cells and my MiFi router streams video on 2G in stronger signal areas.

Have you ever been able to access the internet on the network alone before?

It may be worth just asking vodafone to send you the network settings again, or you can change your APN settings manually.

  7. heard about it on the radio, would gaff if they tried it with my surname, there are 4 of us I've found so far in the world (used to say 3 until I found another unrelated in the states)

As old as the scam is, doesn't stop folk sending out the letters or folks falling for it, tbh for a lot of folks if it comes addressed directly to you through the mail it does seem more "real" than an email to a random email address.

  8. I'd just like to thank everyone for their support and concern over the last 2 days.

Planning permission had been granted but for a smaller ride than the one sited at our only door. Unfortunately the 1st we and our neighbours knew was when the ride arrived, despite being informed that Malcolm had consulted with everyone who would be affected.

When I expressed concern about wheelchair access I was told by the ride operators that the disabled kiddies were getting free rides today and that I was making trouble for a CHARITY.

In fact throughout this whole debacle CHARITY has been thrown at anyone who's dared to question what was going on. So yes he's referring to it as a CHARITY.

We're lucky we didn't have to worry about vibration sensitive alarms, or in Harrison square where residents were having to deal with faces going past their 2nd and 3rd floor flat windows. I'm not a driver but have many a story from taxi drivers dodging folk forced into the roads.

Thank you too to the roads dept for their reassurance during all this, and I assume it's also they I have to thank for finding a more suitable venue.

  9. Please do remember that story about damaged caravans, we're not taking a little bash, they folded like packs of cards. It wasn't a one off either. People don't understand about the wind up here until they experience it. The weather we can get up here in the winter causes "disasters" elsewhere. just remember to find somewhere really sheltered.

  10. Silvercloud, someone seems to have got out of the wrong side of bed this morning. There did used to be a garden comp in Lerwick, don't know if it still happens, but we used to love looking at some of the entries as bairns (long afore the grumpy one came up fae foreign shores).
