  1. Back to slow speeds again, and TalkTalk wonder why I am leaving! http://www.speedtest.net/result/2520109544.png
  2. As they fly at approx 36000ft it is easy to track them by eye binoculars or camera with a big lens. And if you look at http://www.flightradar24.com/ you can find out what plane it is, where it is going and at what speed.
  3. Didn't say it was a problem, much improved from the 0.5 I got a few weeks ago. Then again it's not the 17Mb which BT thinks i should get. The problem i have been having since the upgrade is the connection dropping!
  4. It's still improving slowly! http://www.speedtest.net/result/2476323078.png http://www.pingtest.net/result/76435343.png
  5. Might have to get the romanians to show BT how to do it!!
  6. Best i have achieved so far http://www.speedtest.net/result/2464871656.png But NOT amused with TalkTalk, lost my internet at midnight. I phoned them this afternoon and got an Indian man who I could not understand, called back later to get an indian woman who told me I had an authentication error due to the server losing my username and password and I had to re-enter it. She also told me the username/password I was using trying was incorrect and to use the 1 I was given when I signed up. Even after informing her I never received anything from them as they had taken over my previous ISP and I still used the same login details she insisted I was using the wrong details and I had to phone another number to retrieve my details. Then she asked if I was happy with the outcome! She was told I was not happy and would be changing ISP. Anyway i called the number she gave me to be give my login details which were a new username and password, so I had to change my router settings again. AVOID TALKTALK!!!!!!
  7. I can assure you it was the salt being sprayed from the gritter that chipped my screen. 1 small crack and at least 2 other small chips.
  8. I had my windscreen chipped by the salt being spread by a gritter last Saturday, not amused!
  9. There was a proposal a few years ago to stock at least one other loch with char from Girlsta, but i don't know what happened about it. I may raise this point at the next SAA meeting.
  10. Well, it appears I have been upgraded today. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2460136968.png But still only half the speed it should be I wonder if tweaking router settings would improve it?
  11. Mine is supposed to be upgraded on Thursday and monthly cost reduced but they didn't say what the new cost would be!
  12. After Talk Talk telling me upgrades to the exchange would make no difference to my speed and repeatedly ignoring my comments/requests on upgrading to the new faster service I received a letter today sayingI will be transferred to the new equipment on 24th January! Hope it improves things!!
  13. Otters can often be seen near Toft ferry terminal, around the Swining and Lunna area or at Boddam Voe at low tide
  14. On Hogmany I received the following from Talk Talk - We have received an update from BT Openreach advising that they are unable to see any recent speed tests. Is it possible to run some further speed tests from http://speedtester.bt.com at various times of the day. Please let us know once this has been completed, we can then pass this fault back to BT Openreach for further investigation. Which was followed a couple of hours later by - We have received an update advising that BT OpenReach are unable to identify any faults on the line. If the its only peak time you are experiencing then it is likely that this is caused by congestion. We can pass this back for further investigation in which case the next step will be to arrange a BT OpenReach engineer to go to premises and investigate further. In order to do this we would require acceptance of possible charges and some availability.
  15. I have an SLR with a 100-400mm lens which is expensive and unless you are really into photography can't really be justified. I have had a shot of the fuji as I mentioned earlier and also a compact Lumix with a really good zoom, which gave very good results at distance. A compact is probably all you need if you just want to point and shoot.
  16. The powershot SX40 and the Fuji HS28EXR should be good. I have tried the fuji and know others who use it with really good results, but, I would probably go for the Canon.
  17. TalkTalk have now decided to contact BT about my slow evening speeds : But they still ignore my request about ADSL2+
  18. Don't think we would want Ryanair, they have just been voted worst short haul airline in Europe!! http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/city-news/ryanair-voted-worst-short-haul-airline-1497729
  19. ^ Not been recently but have been several times over the last year and had good meals.
  20. Finally after about a dozen messages to TalkTalk they've decided there's a problem : "the line test reveals that your line speed is dropping below the minimum threshold. We should log this to BT for further investigation." But they have not acknowledge the fact that we should be able to get better speeds on ADSL2+!
  21. Reply from TalkTalk: BTs 21 century network has no affect on your TalkTalk service. You have an IP stream service with TalkTalk and this is not provided over BTs 21CN.
  22. Havgull, delivers feed to salmon farms around Shetland
  23. ^ BT users may get the 17Mb or so, but us on other ISPs will have to wait till they decide to play catch up
