  1. Just been watching BBC News 24 and have seen that Scotland and Northern Ireland spokesman Alistair Carmichael (our MP) has quit to vote in favour of the referendum on the EU treaty. Do you think that we should be getting a referendum?
  2. (** mod edit - new topic merged with existing schools thread **) I see on the Shetland Today website that pupils were sent home becuase of a "significant" electrical fault. Is this a sign that Shetland needs a new AHS?!?!?!

  6. SHETLAND residents will be able to benefit from a direct air connection to Norway this summer following an announcement by Loganair this afternoon (Tuesday). The company's chief executive Peter Tierney announced that Loganair is to operate a twice-weekly service between Sumburgh and Bergen from 7th June until 30th August, with all-inclusive one-way fares ranging from £59-£145. Mr Tierney told a meeting of the Shetland transport partnership ZetTrans at a meeting in Islesburgh House today that if the move was successful it could lead to the introduction of a year-round link to Norway. He said: "The Smyril Line link had died away, and there is a lot of traffic between the two areas, so we have aspirations that this will grow and develop." ZetTrans chairman Allan Wishart welcomed the reintroduction of an air link to Norway and Sumburgh Airport manager Nigel Flaws said it was "excellent news". An air link between Shetland and Norway was previously operated by Norwegian airline Wideroe, which last flew between Sumburgh and Oslo in the summer of 2005. In July and August of that summer the airline carried around 1,100 passengers between the two destinatinations. 7. Sure you didn't intend it that way just the mods keep a keen eye out for advertising and marketing through the forums. And as justme said flybe aren't exactly at the top of the airline tree for customer service. Thats why I put the source of my information on my message.
  8. Hello That was not the plan, just wanted to inform people. Taken the artical from the BBC News website
  9. A new airline deal has promised to deliver more UK and European flight connections to passengers in Scotland. The agreement involves Loganair, which provides services throughout the Highlands and Islands, and Flybe, which flies from four Scottish airports. The new franchise will become active on 26 October when Loganair's current deal with British Airways ends. Flybe's Jim French said the landmark deal would see the benefits of the low cost model being brought to thousands. The franchise will not affect the 40% core fares discount currently enjoyed by passengers from Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles, Islay, Jura, Caithness and North West Sutherland. Tickets for the new franchise will be sold through flybe.com from June this year. Mr French, who is Flybe's chairman and chief executive, echoed Mr Grier's words. He said: "This landmark agreement, the first time a low cost carrier has entered into such a franchise arrangement, is an exciting development in the evolution of the low cost model and one which Flybe sees as a valid strategic option for the future. "It is also a win-win for both airlines. "For Flybe, we will see our presence in the key Scottish market greatly enhanced and will benefit from increased passenger traffic into our existing network. "For Loganair, the alliance is a major opportunity to bring the recognised brand of Europe's largest regional airline and the benefits of the low cost model to hundreds of thousands of passengers."
