3Mobile and Smarty which uses Three both have unlimited plans now and very reasonably priced. Vodafone have “phone” sims which work in a 4G router, again they also have unlimited plans.

Anboutside omnidirectional aerial along with a unlocked router can for most people give them broadband. Omnidirectional aerial... unless you can physically see the mast and its line of sight the signals bounce around. Just by having an external aerial which will have an amount of gain (provide a better signal) you can often get 4G broadband when your phone cannot.

Maybe this has been chewed over before, but its one aspect of the schools I've not heard anyone mention. How much of what is provided in them is stuff that an education authority is legally obliged to do, and how much of it is "nice to have"? Is everything every school has right now actually dictated and unavoidable by statute?

In a time of cutbacks, surely cutting back on services provided within each school building towards, or even right to the statutory minimum, is an equally viable and perhaps more palatable way to achieve savings than closing actual buildings.

A sound basic education only, but accessible without traipsing miles through the hills twice a day to get it, or a sound basic education, with frills which only a minority gain much benefit from, but hours wasted cooped up in a bus. Good accessibility will only get you the basic service, the "Rolls Royce" version will cost your kids wasted time and extra hassle to get. Sounds to me like a reasonable choice to put to parents, no?

Its possible that the lines are connected directly to the exchange which means no cabinet. In some areas BT have added cabinet between the exchange and home, in other areas there is the option of fibre to the premisses.

I have just read the article mentioned in the previous post - what absolute crap. So 'Bob' lives in a remote part of Shetland 9 miles up a single track road does he? Funny how he has such amazing BT coverage then for somewhere so apparently remote.

'Bob' wants to take responsibility for this story and remove it, as it simply promotes/pretends that all Shetland, however far away, has a wonderful broadband service which could not be further from the truth.

I emailed Brendon Dick, the BT man from the SCDI and he was seemingly far too busy to reply to me, simply getting a secretary to email me telling me that BT were checking my line before responding further - an act that was made even more amazing in that I did not state my home address or telephone number in the initial email.

    Pretty much a guarded secret

However if you enter your telephone number at https://www.dslchecker.bt.com it should show your cabinet details and what is available.

Closing Skerries School that is delivering an excellent education, and saving no money.  This could only happen in Shetland??
