  1. Don’t put all the blame on the elected politicians, they take advice and guidance from the full time paid individuals and advisers of the SIC. It’s just some of the politicians are less savvy than others. How many times has the same civil servants made a cockerel up? Don’t think it needs a public enquiry just honesty, integrity and openness.
  2. Each time the cooncil come up with cuts there is an outcry. The longer we wait the harder it will be. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16918000
  3. Has anyone heard that the strong supporters (one or two councillors who have the support of their constituents!!) of this project are going to try and push the yes vote through at the next council meeting (beginning of July)?? I, as a parent, have been collecting signatures for the petition (yes a new school but not at the Knab) and every single house (so far) that I have been along the occupants signed it. They all also stated they had not met one person so far who thought it was a good idea to build at the Knab. OK so I may have biased opinions because I don’t want my children’s education to be disrupted daily by building noise (no silly me building work is quite), nor dust ( no building work is nice and clean!). Does anyone know what the benefits of this site are??
  4. Looks like the majority of common sense has left the council planning dept. The planning police swat team needs mobilised. Imagine telling your son/daughter, hang on in, the building work will be finished in 4 years. Are they going to sound proof the existing school as pupils try and study and shape their future with all the noise outside. O silly old me (mere thick person who voted in a councillor) forgot the new building will be constructed using glues, rubber bands and paper clips. But no the planning board have said the residents need one day a week with no building disruption! What about the needs of the schools pupils? Shame on you! Building on a Greenfield site that is central, next to a large sports complex (that loses money each year) must be a done deal. No let’s build more sports facilities at the new school and still bus them to the swimming pool. Are you mad??
  5. How much longer is the debate going to go on for wasting time, money and effort. Simple, does the majority want it or not. No funny petitions or other MORI style crap. Every person over the age of 12 gets a voting slip DONE.
  6. Get the building up even if the reserves are falling. follow Browns lead and spend our way out of having less money!!! After all not much point living within your means.
  7. Sure i would love a new cinema and music venue that i could visit, who wouldn't? I would also like a new car, one holiday a year and windows that don’t piss in water. But in current circumstances I can't afford it. Live within ur means
  8. I posted this over a month ago, no comment from you yes punters. Sustainability my ass. When is the SIC going to understand boom and bust. Spend spend spend ooo it all gone. Sorry we made a mistake. Thank goodness wills has got balls
  9. This council is living on a different planet. the only one with any B***s is the new man on the block Wills and until the council stops speaking about saving money and starts doing it then its nothing but and old boys club. Sort the design and build it in the most sensible place. Not the top of a wind magnet.
  10. Build the thing on either the ness o soond or next to the clickimin. A few wind turbines to run the massive heat pumps as the new school design should out last the current projections of district heating's life of 30 years. accept no more second class options
  11. Wow the RBS can post record figures into the red in the global credit crunch, house prices are falling and the SIC’s funds are running out faster than Robbie runs but lets all go to the new Mareel and spend the giro on subsidised “local†booze.
  12. and powered by super invisible wind turbines. They are named after the inventor Aaron. Small but full of wind. Cheap shetland electricity fuels new shetland booze. Clueless SLAP's on 50 % export duty to pay for MAreel
  13. Get the turbines up. Hell o a night south on the boat last night. Did the turbines on Fair Isle spoil the view?? No it made it even more peaceful and natural looking. So the only major issue is view?? Pants.
  14. Well not long to wait one way or another. Let’s see which councillors have any backbone left. One of the reasons I never paid much attention to this proposal to begin with is that I thought it would be a no brainer. But no the lobbying and fancy designs obviously swayed a punch drunk previous council. It’s just as well they have a huge false sense of security in the stock market fund. Hope it’s not all invested in the emerging industries fund!! Why can’t the design include a Frankie and Bennies, Bingo hall, Pizza hut and a cathedral? Then we imagine we are the furthest north city in the UK.
  15. Let me guess. Minimum wages for all the staff is the usual trick in a business plan (or perhaps volunteers?). It would indeed be very nice to enjoy a state of the art venue on our doorstep but state of the art soon moves on. In the business plan when is the first upgrade works budgeted? Years 10 to 15? Who will pay for the upgrades or will we just make do with the 15 year old tech in 15 years time?
