  1. I'm sure visitors to Lerwick will really appreciate being called morons. I still don't know where some places are in Lerwick and yep, I use either my Sat Nav or maps on my mobile phone which I suspect some visitors do also. So Nederlander, do you know your way to every single street address in Shetland and all the other isles here? I'm sure they don't come on here to look all the pish posted by the regulars. I only happened to stumble upon this most ludicrous of complaints (although no complaint seems to ludicrous for the folk on this forum) by an unfortunate accident. I stand by my original claim, if anyone missed the market due to it being called the "Upper Esplanade", they are a moron.
  2. Anyone who can't find it is a moron.
  3. Put it this way, us yokels are expected to support Mareel but yet to attend in an evening, we would have to use either taxis (at over £35 a time from the South End) or drive as there won't be public transport available. Using comparable venues within city locations won't work as in those cities, public transport is available. Is it not the case that Shetland has a higher number of cars per household than elsewhere in the UK for the size of the population? So your real gripe is with the lack of public transport then? How do you know that this wasn't discussed? As far as I can see, as it stands, there is ample parking space in the immediate vicinity of Mareel.
  4. How predictable, have a dig at someone's disability. Mind you, you forgot to mention that many people have a job finding their (correct) seat number in a cinema, be it through drink, small numbering or even the fact the lights are out! ...aaaaaand here's the other one, with a typically ridiculous post.
  5. I suppose not if your definition of "criticise" and "slag off" is anything and everything that doesn't conform to your own exact POV. Mareel has become a holier than holy in some people's minds, and anything other than toeing the line and praising it to high heaven is met with an unbelievable sensitivity, and decried as an attack criticising and slagging it off. Methinks the lady/gentleman protesteth too much..... I suppose I'm someone from Shetland Arts am I? Nothing to do with my point of view actually, merely an observation of what Shetlink has turned into in the past year or so. It didn't used to be like it is now. I really couldn't care who you are, if you wanna have the opinion that anything you preceive as an "attack" or "critisicm" of Mareel must be derided and silenced, that's your perogative. I note you cut my quote where I go on to say that I don't think that SA or Mareel are beyond critisim, as such you devalue your accusation of me defending them to the hilt, because the simple fact is that I don't. The "new eyes" bit is just ludicrous. But well done on becoming the spokesperson for the "Negative Society" though, makes sense. Yes, but you discounted the many parking spaces within spitting distance of Mareel. The only reason I can think that you did this was to suit your own POV. I think you'll find I mentioned the North Ness and the Upper Viking Car Park, being as they were nearest. You'll have to have a good spit going on if you can reach the Town Hall or the Fort from Hay's though..... Point in hand though is, while Mareel/Shetland Arts have an arrangement for now to use the "White House" (or whatever its been dubbed) car park at the moment, it, and the rest of the North Ness aren't (AFAIK) public car parks, and may not necessarily be available in the future. They are there first and foremost to service the buildings they are associated with, and any significant detriment to that is going to put their availability in jeopardy. Ideally a public building would have dedicated carparking adequate to accomodate its average capacity and not rely on public car parks and "borrowed" space from other entities, the fact it doesn't is just one more point towards proving that far too much has been squeezed in to a far too small site The "White House" car park is a public car park. My point is that you are making a mountain out of a mole hill when it comes to the parking "situation". If it does become a problem then raise it then, why do it now? Is it just because you are looking for problems that aren't even problems yet, and may never even become problems?
  6.  Yes, but you discounted the many parking spaces within spitting distance of Mareel. The only reason I can think that you did this was to suit your own POV.  All the car parks in town are more or less empty past five o'clock, which is when I would think Mareel will be at it's busiest. It seems to be a Shetland thing that walking any distance from a car park to an event, or anything even, is a major problem.
  7. It's been taken over by the types of people previously mentioned, who have a presence on almost every thread on the site. We all know who they are. I don't think that Mareel or indeed Shetland Arts are beyond critism at all, indeed I think that there have been many mistakes made, but I don't sit at my laptop desperatley thinking of any small detail that I could attack. It would appear to myself, and many others besides, that this is exactly what some people do. I'm looking forward to it opening and hope it does very well. Ps. Actually, I do have a complaint about the colour of the chairs in the cinema; How did they come to pick this colour? Were tests done on the Shetland public to confirm that it wouldn't make at least one person spontaneuosly combust? Will the noise of the colour deafen people living near by? Will colour blind people be able to read their seat number? *Add ridiculous, unfounded and laughable complaint/question/allegation here*.
  8. There are also all the spaces at the new council offices and the other North Ness areas, which will more than likley be empty from 5pm onwards. pootle me, is there nothing that some of you won't criticise? Shetlink is just one big slag fest now, dominated by 3 or 4 doom merchants and naysayers. A damn shame.
  9. Looks like Shetland Arts could have had another showing of films at the Garrison. A little disappointed with the lack of information we're getting at the moment, I understand that they are perhaps scared of committing to a date that they can't keep, but any information on plans they have would raise the anticipation levels that little bit more.
  10. If I catch anyone putting this crap through my letter box then they will be told exactly where they can stick it.
  11. Speak for yourself. Surprise surprise.
  12. ^ I hope you're amusing yourself, because you're boring the tits off everyone else.
  13. Who gives a sharn about your constant negative trolling? Not me, and I highly doubt anyone else does either, so why don't you give it a rest and put your energy into something more worthwhile? Mareel is here, and it's here to stay, like it or lump it. I am really looking forward to it. Hope they show films that will be released before they open e.g. THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN and possibly THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Seeing an advert for films due to be released has become so much more exciting as I'm sitting there hoping to be able to see them in Mareel! Roll on opening day!
  14. How about an opening night on the 20th of July for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?
  15. I note today that their is a Fiddle Frenzy gig booked to play in Mareel on the 7th of August. Does this mean that we are getting close to an official opening date? Surely they must know when they are going to be open now? Not being negative, I'm genuinely excited for the opening of Mareel and can't wait to use it!
  16. I for one cannot wait for Mareel! It's here folks, lets make the most of it instead of trying to shoot it down without giving it a chance! Apologies if you've answered this before Bryan, but are there any thoughts of having an "unlimited" card for the cinema?
  17. What manager has ever complained about a decision that has gone his teams way?! Honestly, get a grip.
  18. I contribute to various charities and have raised thousands through my marathon running efforts in the past. Of course, I don't know where the funds ended up but hope that they were put to good purpose. The point I was making was that simply calling a football league, the "Mind Your Head League" doesn't in itself get a "message" across. Of course, the name will be known via the sponsorship but it is the need for the message to be relayed that I referred to leaflets as an alternative. Raising the matter in the first instance wasn't a case of me being negative at all but, hey, you can see it how you want to. Actually when I read the news story I hadn't heard too much about Mind Your Head (not realising they did the Round Spiggie etc) so I went and had a look at their website. So perhaps there are others who have done the same? Every little helps.
  19. Works League certainly have, after holding off for as long as they could, and I imagine that the A's and B's have as well. A lot of work goes into coordinating fixtures, pitches referees and even the smallest change can have quite a big effect on numerous games.
  20. Works League is played at the weekend and quite a few teams will be badly affected. Also I can't see the A's teams that will be adversley affected (mainly country teams, toon teams won't be near as bad) being too keen on playing two games in two days. I just find it amazing that the Parish Cup can't work with the established leagues, the bread and butter of Shetland football, to find a manageable solution.
  21. Why the draw couldn't have been made a few weeks ago before the leagues drew up their fixtures is beyond me. Then the weekends could have been kept free for these games and avoided a whole lot of rearranging. A good few teams asked them to do it but they wouldn't. Pathetic.
  22. That is an absolute belter. I believe that Mr Brain has probably won that arguement!
  23. Don't give up the day jobs guys, in comedy, especially as a duo you are f***ing crap. It would appear that a good few of us would disagree with you! No doubt the cavalry will be here soon though!
  24. Mareel has been built, it's not going anywhere. What can come of bitching about it and generally being negative for the sake of being negative. Baffling, truly baffling.
