Where can I watch the procession online, I’m not on facebook

semantics, we all pay into the system to get a pension when we retire, I paid for the previous generations pension and the next pays for mine. So as wheelsup says your pension isn’t a gift.

Decided to have a treat and bought a packet of 6 butteries, used to love them years ago, but had to watch the waist line. Sadly I was disappointed as the inside of the buttery was more like the inside of a roll rather than the flaky texture I remember, and I didn’t think they tasted anything like the butteries I remember. Malcolmsons used to make a buttery that came close to the Aberdeen ones, which were real butteries. Is it just me thinking things were better in the past or has the buttery changed beyond recognition.?

There’s a lot of truth in what your saying, but the main difference are that those south generally have more choice of airlines and prices compared with what we have to pay. Last time I was away the Sumburgh leg of my flight was considerably dearer than the Leeds one. The Sumb flight, smaller plane was virtually full, the Leeds flight, larger plane was virtually empty. Mile against mile we are paying through the nose and of course the sumb flight left late meaning a missed connection and an additional £45 transfer fee which made me further out of pocket and 5 hours late. It’s all very well comparing us with what south people have to put up with, but only if we were paying the same mile for mile charge. You do realise that once this charge is introduced, it will be increased year on year to balance the books. I will willingly pay the parking charge, when my flights are comparable in price to those living South of us. Until then I just see this as Humza Yousaf’s way of hitting us with another tax.
-
Why bother answering any survey, they have already stated on radio Shetland that they are introducing the charges anyway as they need to balance the books. This is a token survey. They can argue that charges happen at most other airports, but those airports usually have good transport links unlike Shetland. More importantly, when people fly from these airports they can get very cheap flights unlike here here we are as usual paying through the nose. This is just another tax and the Scottish government after pressure give us a bit of a discount, but they will ways find new ways of getting it back. If this is what island proofing is about then we are being taken for fools yet again. Those at the top both airport heads and government officials, who are holding us to ransom, want to seriously look at their positions and hang their heads in shame when they pick up their over inflated wages. Everyone should write across the so called survey, saying “waste of time decision already made”.

If in doubt get a freesat box, this receives its signal through your satellite dish, and will give you more channels then free view, plus you can buy a recording version. I used one for years before going back to sky, but with the way sky’s prices are going I might get myself another freesat box shortly. Where I am freeview through an arial is poor and you get a lot less channels then they get in the town.

If that happened the airport might realise that they shot themselves in the foot, but the same government person who controls the airport has proven that they will do everything they can to delay the reduction of travel cuts to the ferries. Plus those introducing the parking charges, know fine well that the ferries can’t cope at peak seasons and that we have no other choice but to use Sumburgh. Both the ferry and airport are lifeline services and they have got us over a barrel. I wonder how they have managed to complete all the renovations to the airport so far without this charge. Utter nonsense the airport is a lifeline service, the only way it could be described as that would be for NHS patients who are getting free parking anyway. You choose to live here and going on holiday is a luxury, the same can be said for the people who don’t live on the bus route Definition from the Collins Dictionary- “A lifeline is something that enables an organization or group to survive or to continue with an activity.” Without the ferries and air travel Shetland could not survive, it’s not all about going on holiday, what about business and the movement of products necessary for the islands. All this will do is put costs up. I’m not the only one who has been stuck at Sumburgh due to weather delays waiting to pick someone up, yet I will be expected to pay £3.00 for the privilege. As for “you chose to live here”. I was born here, my family is here and I will do what I can to ensure the the expensive cost of living here doesn’t get further out of hand.

It’s not as simple as that, where will the bus leave from and return to, No doubt Lerwick, so if you live anywhere else you need to use the car to get to the bus. If I stayed, in say Weisdale, there won’t be a service to Sumburgh to meet my flight and if your going to use your car to Lerwick, you might as well do the whole run. Plus I think the bus cost might be as much as the parking cost. My worry is that once they introduce this cost it won’t stay at £3 for very long, everytime their budgets don’t balance they will bung the cost up.

It made me laugh brochbuilder, some folk need to loosen up a bit.

Speechless at you. saying the poor car drivers at fault. The scenario is completely different from what happened in the pub, if the car driver had deliberately shoved the person walking on the road than the answer would be clear.. Where your scenario is concerned, if a person is walking on the road at night in dark clothing a driver should still see them with their lights if he/she is paying attention and hopefully stop, I’ve come across this situation many times on country roads and so far managed to stop or swerve around them. However if they were to suddenly run onto the road or you met them on a sharp bend that might be a different matter. So perhaps playlist is not far out with his answer.

Nah, he’ll just have attended an away day, brain storming session with joined up blue sky thinking and a helicopter view (forgive the pun),forgetting to touch base with the general public and interested parties. He forgot to cascade the information and get all his ducks in a row with this one...

Spoken like someone who makes statements which he thinks makes his points more credable, without knowing whether what he states is correct or not.

The heading of this topic is “barred but apparently blameless” but It’s unfortunate that some people only see black or white, but it’s not as simple as that. To go back to the heading the drunk! person has responsibility for his actions and his actions led to him being asked to leave, he didn’t and was eventually escorted off the premises. I have no issues with this what so ever. Then he was shoved resulting in him falling and breaking his wrist. This is where the grey area exists, as I was not there I didn’t see how he was shoved, was it a gentle push to remove him from the door way or was there anger and aggression above what was required to remove him. I don’t know the answer, but it seemed there was enough doubt for it to end up in court. I do not believe that the outcome was intended, but we could say that about just about anything after the fact. In hindsight would the member of staff take the same action again, I doubt it. Regardless of the reasons, once we lay hands on another we risk prosecution regardless of our intentions. Was the ‘drunk’ blameless. No and I think he should have been dealt with by the court as well. As for pleading guilty to get an reduced fine etc, I’m sure this will happen, but if you are innocent a good lawyer will advise you to stand your ground and fight your case. I’m sure your lawyer will have a discussion with the sheriff as well before the case starts. This isn’t a simple black, white issue, it’s full of gray areas, unless you were there you don’t know the details.

Unfortunately there are bad apples in all walks of life and as I said I don’t think it’s right.
-
I don’t think anyone thinks he set out to break anyone’s wrist and I agree the fine was over the top. Doorman or bar manager he should have been able to deal with the situation without injury to the other party. His employers have a duty to ensure he is capable and properly trained. As someone said above, he pled guilty, therefore accepted his actions were not reasonable force. It’s a very fine line. I dont believe it should have got to court, but I’m not the one making the decisions. No doubt the person who had to be ejected might cause further bother and will hopefully have his day in court as he needs to learn that he can’t conduct himself like that in public.

Read what I said, muscle bound doormen thumping punters was, thankfully, a thing of the past..luckily we now see trained doormen who in the main operate on a professional level and do a great, albeit difficult job. Are you suggesting this was not an issue in the past. As for the position of police, I believe the Shetland force would have been on the scene relatively quickly and dealt with the situation. As for the waffle re social services etc, I never suggested that nor would I think a pub would be a suitable place for that to happen. Mind you if someone is causing this amount of constant problems, I would suggest help of some kind could be required. I do feel for staff who have to put up with this type of behaviour and I know how frustrating customers of this nature can be, but if we start a free for all as to how we deal with them, it will end in a disaster. Anyone with a drop o midder wit, will know if you shove a drunk person, they are likely to lose their balance, when they fall their reactions are slow and often they go down like a sack o tatties, and often the head can hit the ground hard. Had this chap not fallen and broken his wrist, no one would have shown concern that he was “helped” out the door, but when we decide to make contact with others we do so knowing there are risks and doormen unlike the rest of us are trained to know the risks. Would it be ok for police officers to shove annoying or drunk people over resulting in broken wrists? Somehow I don’t think so, and I’m sure the police have to deal with as many awkward individuals. Whilst it is regrettable that the wrong person ended in court, the law is there to protect us all.
-
I don’t think this is about ‘everyone is nice and fluffy’ it’s about what we are allowed to do within the law, it’s to do with taking the law into your own hands, and this is something that, if allowed to happen can blur the boundaries. Where do you draw the line.? You say ‘not through the direct malicious actions by the barman’ well perhaps he was not malicious, but he decided to take direct action, which resulted in the injury of someone else. The judge was right that an offence was committed, and could have also removed his licence, however I would think he carefully weighed up the circumstances of the case and accepted the the injured party had some responsibility in the case. Whilst I have every sympathy concerning the difficulty and stress related to the job of doormen, it is clear that they undergo comprehensive training to deal with these situations and they are required by law to deal with them in accordance to the rules that govern at the time. In the olden days we would have just taken this chap outside and taught him a lesson, but today this is not only frowned on but would put ourselves at risk of prosecution. Had the police been called, it would have been the other party facing the judge. I for one would not have the patience to deal with drunk annoying, mouthy people, which is why I would never become a doorman, but those who do choose this line of work must carry it out in full accordance with their training and the law. I remember the olden days where untrained body builder doormen dished out thumpings to idiots who were too drunk to defend themselves, thankfully things have moved on where doormen are concerned. Unfortunately there are still far too many drunk idiots.

Less likely to be a puppy farm, more likely a scam of some sort. I noticed someone had emailed them asking it they had any Wally Dugs. Brilliant, ghostie by any chance? Admin would be better to remove these adverts before some poor mug gets conned. -
couldnt agree more. We used to nip out to Herrislea’s lounge bar for a treat on Fridays at lunch time, great home cooking, good helpings and down to earth food and reasonable prices. It’s difficult to find a good pub lunch now. Everything has to look like an artist plated it.

when I lived in the town, I would have a wander over the street several times a week, but that was the only choice, it was either buy locally or save up for a shopping weekend in Aberdeen. Things have changed now, we have so much choice, we can get south easier or order it online getting it to your door within days. It’s great to buy local and I try where possible to do that, but when I have a choice between sitting in the house and ordering an item online or struggling to find parking and clumping your car over those ridiculous speed bumps, realistically if I can’t get it oot ower, I’m liable to just order it online. I don’t have an answer how to improve the street, but I know the recent reduction in parking and road “improvements” has done little to encourage me to head to town.

Thought the celebrity involvement was a good idea and added something new. Who could they get for next year... Wagner seemed to be enjoying himself, and being chased by all da lasses. Certainly different, but do you not have to live in Lerwick for 5 years before you can take part? Non Shetland musicians are allowed. That’s right enough Muckle joannie, I suppose the question would be, is someone singing and undoubtedly the main part of your act really a musician? I mind many years ago getting a warning from a committee member as we had included our musician, a chap fae Da country, in a small part of our act. They have maybe mellowed a bit now though. Was entertaining to watch though and he looked like he was having a great time, which is all a great advert for Shetland.

They are maybe getting things ready fir when they ban vehicles in the town centre altogether, and the only way you can get in is on a bike. Mind you you would be able to avoide to “cushions” or lumps of concrete wit sharp edges.
