A great retreat from the "rat race" and in a nice place, not too far from humanity. I think I'll have to try the lottery this weekend.

Community projects enhance the community, this has been evidenced throughout the world. Bridge End Outdoor Centre CLAN Appeal Shetland CLAN in the Community Climb Shetland Community Mediation Team (Citizens Advice Bureau) Disability Shetland Gulberwick Together Community Group Lerwick & Bressay Parish Church Marc Hutchison Asthma Trust Moving On Employment Project Northmavine Community Shetland Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (SADP) Shetland Anglers Association Shetland Befriending Scheme Shetland Bereavement Support Service Shetland Canoe Club Shetland Caravan Club Shetland Carers Group Shetland Classic Motorcycle Club Shetland Clay Target Club ShetlandLive.com Shetland Pre-School Play Shetland Rotary Club Shetland Stroke Support Group St Magnus Episcopal Church The New Shetlander Unst Community Council Voluntary Action Shetland Volunteering in Shetland Whitedale Football Club Yell Community Council Just a few that enhance the community, I would guess if more money was available, there would be more... http://www.shetland-communities.org.uk/main/ It is a shame you can only think of yourself... I really wish you would stop constantly looking for an argument. If you have nothing positive to say perhaps it is wiser to say less. All you are doing is putting others off taking part. The mods have already warned you about this

They must have fixed something as the service has not been a problem since March. Although instant messaging took 6 hours from sending to arriving yesterday. So much for technology

Priorities For Policing In Shetland
Windwalker replied to PoliceScotlandShetland's topic in Shetland News
I can see what your saying Ghostie, the report says " two individuals HAD committed" which suggested the decision has been made. Perhaps it should have just said, two individuals have been reported for......... All I can say is its good that the police investigations has resulted in people being reported to court. -
I would think that is the problem. I've just tried it on my phone and can't find the "add an advert" on that layout. If you log into Shetlink on your mobile then go to the bottom of the page on your screen, you should see an option for " full version" this will show you the page as you would see it on a computer. You'll have to zoom in but it's one way of getting it done if not on a computer.

Hi Wulliebhoy1916 As long as you are signed in, click on the "classified" tab, then you will see a tab on the right side called "add an advert". Click on this tab and follow the instructions. It will give you the option t add photos if you wish. Good luck

Are you aware that they have introduced a new container? Hence the reason for my post

Can I just say that, so far, I am impressed with the new milk cartons from the dairy. The lids are easy to open and then seal tight and more importantly the milk seems to be keeping fresher a lot longer. Well done dairy

There were in total 31 incidents reported... I am not so sure why you missed out crimes against livestock, or dog on "another domestic animal". The remainder were for "other offences" All reported crimes. Because that the bit I'm interested in and it proves I can use statistics to strengthen my point. Strange that isn't it. -

Sadly Shetlink was quick to agree to terminate two accounts not that long ago. The wrong ones in my opinion. If moderators have a problem with users, have they used the warning system or is it just for decoration? -

Thanks Pete for confirming that your statistics were over 5 years. 17 reported incidents against people over 5 years = 3.4 incidents a year. Although this is still 3.4 too many, it kinda puts it into perspective. Of course statistics don't give details like how many of these were serious attacks or was it a dog just being overly friendly. Nor do they let us know if the same incident involved more than one complainant or the same dog etc etc. With this lovely day I have been out all day and have met a total of 7 dogs, 3 on leads and 4 off Out if the 4 off leads, only one approached me, he was a big softy and just rolled over at my feet, the others were more interested in sniffing around or chasing their toys. Everyone was having a nice day in the sunshine. It's not all doom and gloom:-) -

This thread could have been in the news if the world. Scaremongering with bland statistics and only giving half the picture. Whilst we all agree that there have been a number of incidents involving dogs and are aware how these can effect some individuals, we need to keep things into perspective. The key here is for 'some' dog owners to take more responsibility for their dog/s and be more aware of those who may not be comfortable in their presence. Owners should realise, that although they may be confident that 'rover' doesn't bite, they also need to be aware that others don't know that and may have had previous bad experiences with other dogs. I love to see dogs running free, but there is a time and place and owners like myself have a responsibility to ensure their dogs can be controlled or are under control at all times in public areas. A well respected trainer once told me " there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners" -

@pete. "why you would want to try to break down crimes in order to lessen their numbers?" It has nothing to do with lessening their numbers as you well know. Details can put a whole different slant on things. Your good at suggesting that folk are saying something they didn't. Perhaps you shouldn't keep doing that, it's not very nice. You still haven't said how many years the statistics cover. -
I would certainly go down as they will hopefully try to squeeze you on? I have heard a rumour that some companies have spaces prebooked but may not use the. But that could be just a rumour. Good luck with getting a place. I tried to book a few weeks back and was told it was choc a block. Clearly these boats are not big enough to cope with the present need.

1st para - Do your own research 2nd para - freely available facts, or would you like these hidden? 3rd para - WTH has that got to do with this topic? I can only assume you are still a dog owner, I remember you worrying about transport fot it/them. Figting dog/s if I remember rightly, I am sure however you will correct me if I am wrong. Perhaps rather than spitting the dummy out, would it be possible to state the source of information so that people can see whether its genuine or not. If your going to introduce "bland" statistics, perhaps you should be prepared for it to be questioned. I would suggest that suffererofonecrankymofo was likely making the point that you are likely far more at risk of being beat up by someone than bitten by a dog. Perhaps putting your statistics into perspective. Anyone can quote statistics to try and strenthen an argument, but the devil is usually in the detail. As I side note, I wonder how many dogs there are in Shetland and what the percentage of those have never given cause for concern, just a thought. From a responsible dog owner -
History repeating itself. I remember similar problems when the "bears" arrived at Sullom the first time round. They managed to get rid of a load of the idiots and things settled down. You have to wonder what the bosses at petrofac thought their 2000 staff would get up to when given the day off, but at least they seem genuine in their efforts to identify the minority of trouble makers. Of course it's important to remember that with 2000 employees you are bound to get a few idiots and we should not tar them all with the same stick.

I've never understood or agreed with people getting awards for doing the job they are paid to do. Unless if course they were to do something exceptional. Why should one person get an award for doing a job for a long period when there are hundreds of workers in the same boat. Did he do a good job ? yes more than likely, but that's why he was paid a good wage. did he do anything exceptional ? Well I wasn't aware of anything. I once heard a woman say that her aim in life was to get one of these awards and as she was a nurse I thought I'm sure her aims could be more towards helping those in her care. I've no doubt she will end up getting an award as I know she has asked people to nominate her. Which is why in my opinion these awards have now lost their appeal.

Ghostie, there was a notice in the times advertising their AGM. Just checked and unfortunately it was at 7pm tonight in the waterlane office, so they weren't expecting a big turn out.

Pity you posted this at 08.37 and the last bus from here left at 08.20.I can't get into town today, but would have liked to speak to someone about heating options, as my storage heaters are costing me a fortune. Is there anyone who you can phone or visit at a later date to get the info? Yes you can contact Home Energy Scotland on 0808 808 2282 and they will be able to advise and also arrange for this. Alternatively please personal message me. Thanks for that Steven.

My argument would be we shouldn't be throwing money to solve driver stupidity. Fundamentally drivers should not be doing either and would fail a test on these.! I understand what your saying tooney1, but I suppose the argument for doing work is to protect the innocent who these idiots plough into. My concern is not that the work should be done, but the fact they have just completed "improving" the road surface at the brig o fitch, then decide within weeks that some of it will need to be torn up to install an island. Why was this not considered a few weeks earlier. It's another example of this council, with its vast staff, unable to arrange a p..s up in a brewery. Not only will this cost more, but it will further inconvenience motorists all of which could have been avoided.

How about a positive thread for a change ? Is there anyone you would like to thank for being helpful or going out if their way to provide a good service etc. Positive comments only please. To start with I would like to thank the Bressay ferry staff, who despite me just arriving at the terminal as they were about to depart, they put down the barrier and got me on, saving an hours wait. Thank you boys, it was much appreciated.

It's a pity they have let it go so far, as I believe the shop is improving from what it was. I would imagine they will be charging the firms who have taken over the back car park, which is full of pickups and surely they could put this towards resurfacing the car park.

I am a little worried you find the possibility of someone having an accident worthy of a smile. Why would it be pleasing to you if they do? Crass!.Oh for god sake get a life, it was tongue in cheek. Why do you insist on finding something to pick on in most folks posts. Can you not think of something positive to say about anything. You have to pick pick pick.
