I took one look at it and felt it was too bland to have any substance, plus does NHS Shetland really need to have results of a survey to tell them that their dental services are totally inadequate. I think they've known that for the last ten years and despite huge waiting lists done sausage all about it.

As far as I can see, very few agree. Do you really want to live in a community, where you feel you are being watched all the time by nosy, interfering neighbours, and run the risk of being accused of something your innocent of ? Because that will be the outcome. One of my neighbours was raided for drugs, with their door smashed in, handcuffed on the couch and their property searched. When nothing was found the police asked if they new of anyone who might have a grudge against them.
 
Upsetting and degrading and as their house was raided the rumour mongers now gossip that they must have been something in it. So tarred for life.
 
Your idea will result in little success, but will tie up the authorities in tittle tattle, hearsay and gossip. lets leave it to the professionals, not interfering amateurs who love to curtain twitch.

Probably when they started charging 3.90 for a tin of lager..  Strange(?) part of it is that they do not (yet) scan your stuff in Kirkwall.
 
Was on the boat a few weeks back when some kid in a hi-vis 'told' me to put my bag through the scanner.  Looked more than a little puzzled when I demanded to know 'why'.  The old 'port security' garbage just doesn't wash with me anymore and S/N need to be reminded that we are travelling WITHIN the UK and that they are operating nothing more that a floating bus service. 
How long before you have to get your bags scanned before using a bus or taxi?  Will you be refused travel if you object?
 
Is it legal for them to to confiscate any alcohol you might be carrying?  Definitely questionable and would need to be 'tested' as you can, if you wish, purchase it quite freely when you are on board.
Maybe it's not just alcohol they are looking for but, like an awful lot of other people, I am heartily fed up with  being 'spied on' and having my every movement recorded in the name of security(?)

Sorry to change this subject ... But, when did Northlink start scanning foot passengers (not car drivers/passengers) luggage to check for alcohol? and if they find any, they confiscate it and only return it in the morning.. is this legal??

Yeh, that was my first thought but he included a scan of the receipt in his email. I get stuff from parcelforce all the time without problem, and he says he's not had many problems with them up until now. But one failed delivery and one lost is the current status. Hopefully the 1st class mail one will arrive.

Anyone in the UK who can live their life without sticking a big fat judgemental neb into other peoples personal affairs wouldn't find the need to question his motives or reasons. 

I think a Seafood Restaurant would be a guaranteed winner in Lerwick.

Sadly, I hear the 'F' and 'C' words bandied about in offices and on public transport every day and, typically, it is the younger generation that is using these words. 
 
As I said earlier, it doesn't bother me to much but, particularly on public transport, I see older members of the population 'cringe' when it starts.
 
It seems that the use of expletetives is becoming more socially acceptable but, I would much prefer it's usage curtailed to more appropriate circumstances than just 'general talk'.  
Pity is that a lot of people have to resort to this form of 'speak' as they do not have the vocabulary to describe things otherwise.

I agree that we don't have to read stuff which we might find offensive, but like others, when reading a local news article, I didn't expect to find the "C" word used. I'm not aware of this locally in the past.
 
I don't read the daily rags due to the gutter journalism used, so I tend to get general news from the BBC and local from Shetland times or Shetland news. For some stupid reason I would expect them to report stories to certain standards.

And yes, I do feel it is completely unnecessary. they'll be showing pictures of 'horrific injuries' next. 

I can now just about tolerate the f word in print but the the c word is over the top. . I understand the user is verbally limited but no need for the electronic press to publicise it.
This strange use of the surname is emulating the English public school style whilst. in Shetland the equivalent has always been the use of the given name or nickname  only.

This smacks more of the snp greetin because they didn't get in, the same greetin they did after the vote for independence didn't go their way. I'm fed up of hearing Salmond squaking about how there needs to be another referendum. The people voted no. Live with it.
 
I'd still trust Carmichael long before I would trust any of the snp crowd. God he's not the first politician to make a bad judgement. He released an email, he didn't kill someone.
 
I'd weigh up the positive stuff he's done against this stupid episode which sturgeon is doing her best to play up. Let's wait and see how many mistakes she makes.

I can think of many ways to spend £60000, and this is not one of them.

I'm so glad you're not doing jury service, George.  Nice to know there are people out there who still believe in innocent until proven guilty.  Are you sure you don't just want to burn everyone at the stake right now?

Do you have one meter that takes all the readings or multiple separate meters?
 
If it's the latter you will pay a separate standing charge for each meter if you move off Hydro's Total Control tariff.
 
You can switch to one meter to avoid this but you may require to re wire your fuse box to allow this to happen and you may be charged for the meter switch unless the meter are due for an upgrade.

Windwalker, most other lekky companies closest comparison would be Economy 7.  That gives the lower peak rate from about 10pm or midnight onwards to about 7am or 8.30am (It depends on the supplier as to the actual hours plus they adjust for GMT).
 
At present, you're paying for heating at one rate (or those radiators wired into the Total Heat Total Control lower rate meter), hot water at certain times on one rate and other electricity consumed on another rate (or something like that ... I need more coffee).
 
So if you change suppliers, you are left with just peak and off-peak rates to pay.  London used to be awash (pardon the pun) with washing machines humming away at 2am to take advantage of the Economy 7 cheaper electricity.
 
Yes, you would lose the cheap boost during the day.
 
And as mentioned, there's the change in meter cost to consider.
 
I'm yet to find a viable alternative because there isn't a like-for-like to compare with.  I'd stay as you are.

I certainly don't recall anyone on this thread saying that the "lies" told by Carmichael are acceptable and he should be left alone to get on with it. But I have noticed how many don't condone what he did but have put it in proportion. Of course the SNP leading the campaign against him, don't have their own agenda, do they?
 
But I suppose if you keep trying to ram misleading statements down people's throats a few might start to believe you.

George, care to explain how one destroys the support that was shown for Skene?  Unlike someone else, I'm not distorting anything, just trying to ascertain why you believe when one person witholds information it's okay, but not when another person withholds it.
