Some of it is mentioned here, as it turns out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mareel The ERDF and Lottery funds did contribute, amongst others.

Without looking inot the breakdown of the Mareel funding Skunnered, you may not have heard of the Lottery funds, the ERDF and the SRDP, all of which give capital funding to projects without expecting a return, for instance. There are others too.

That's an interesting take on it Skunnered. For comparison, the new museum cost £11.6million apparently. I wonder if anyone can confirm that they make £550,000 clear profit return per year on their investment? Or does it not work like that?

The golf one is priceless, as is their attendance at a board room meeting. Quite a mixed topic here EM. The AR Drone antics are funny, the over-arching principle is frightening and may ultimately attract new laws and no-fly zones... ....and bull fighting is pretty much abhorrent and represents a serious conflict of traditional culture vs authoritative global awareness to regional activity. Where to start?

First Convovulus Hawkmoth that flew in our window a few years ago gave me the fright of my life, I thought it was a bat, not that I'm scared of bats, just a heck of a large thing to start batting off the lamp unexpectedly! Fjool's one seems to have his antennae tucked under his wings for protection, looking like the zipper mentioned above. Custard? Really? Totally chuffed if so, best cat name ever.

Well it is now bobdahog, in this thread anyway. Thread locked, simples. This was not a thread for arguing about the "he said, she said". It was a simple request for info about driveway tarring. You've had your differences, it doesn't matter really and I hope we can all let it drop. Banzai, I hope you got the numbers of firms that were posted above. If any of you wish to continue your slanging match, please do so using the private message function. Thank you.

History or not, lets just keep this as a general discussion please. We can't allow personal defamation, it's in the T&Cs after all.

Ditto^ One of which became used for an eastern european forum, under an utterly inappropriate domain name (probably a sandbox). If you want to hoard, you have to be prepared to pay for the long haul, or watch them go.

MGs puns were pretty dire. You would hope that it would get people taking about the festival and to find out more, rather than walk away knowing nothing other than the quirky bits. A proportion of people are, however, sometimes happy to jump on to the ridicule wagon whenever possible, unfortunately. To complement the more whimsical publicity, the feature on Radio Scotland was up to a high standard with Mark Kermode giving a suitably credible and dignified account of the festival and his appreciation of it. Might still be on iPlayer I spose.

Sorry to say the same about the tea. I had to leave it and, believe me, I tried to force it down.(should've complained ) The person behind the counter also recently walked off while I was mid-way through telling him what I wanted, then seemed surly when he had to shout back to me from the microwave area as to what extras I wanted. I'm not usually touchy but when someone walks away like that when you're in the middle of saying something, blatantly not listening further, it gets my hackles up like nothing on earth. Poor show.

You could also try the wanted or accommodation section of Shetlinks Classifieds.

Though the Scottish Gorvernment adopted planning policies to encourage micro-renewables several years ago, this is an extract from an annex to the relevant PAN (Planning Advice Note)

Where are you .......And what would you rather be doing??

You didn't get the chance to see the Nottingham Riviera then? Quite comical in the torrential rain. -
Any decent welder could make you up a wrought iron gate, the cast iron bits however, are more difficult to source now, and probably a lot more expensive. To get one from further afield though you just need a decent set of measurements. Once the gate is built any builder could fit it for you. ...small help.

I've heard a recommendation to replace harl with timber for cost reasons and it seemed pretty plausible at the time ( a while ago). Why would you talk someone out of it Johan, out of interest?

^ I seem tae mind it was aboot 30+ feet. In lieu of my ignorance, I can proffer up this mine of info. http://www.nls.uk/maps/bathymetric/loch_order.html ....but it doesn't include Gonfirth.

Welcome to the forum Patzel. The Agriculture section will probably hold some answers for you and ask all you like. paulb, I take it that where you say "shetlands/shetland" in your post, you are referring to Shetland ponies, that is, your wife wants to use your ponies for croft work, yes?
-
The Gonfirth loch is quite deep, but according to divers who have been in it, it is pretty difficult to gauge as the peaty slurry on the bottom gets gradually thicker and thicker , until forming a particularly claustrophobic grip upon them, so deciding on a definite bottom was hard. The three deepest, iirc, are Girlsta, Tingwall and Clings Water. Both of the latter having deep holes in them.

As I understand it, digital cinemas (like Mareel) can offer this kind of possibility, because there's no projectionist as such, just someone to press a button, who would be there anyway, (maybe even the cleaner! )

Perhaps they should build their own little off-ramp on the Tingwall straights, like they do south, then there would be no possibility of obstructing other traffic trying to exit a 60mph road. Or, come to think of it there's a fine peat road about halfway along the straights they could use, on the west side of the road.

It was quite faint, between 0130 and 0200 was about the only time it was dark enough to see them. the extent of their visible range had receded from earlier. Couple of cracking shooting stars though. -
I also think it is an anachronism to say "When did things like this start to happen in Shetland". If that means to suggest that nobody has ever gripped a policeman before, I would guess that they have done - it is just that it doesn't happen often, so it stands out. I seem to recall hearing of revellers at the Tingwall Hall trying to roll the police van 30 years ago. If one were to post that as a story now people would equally say "What is Shetland coming to!"
