just because there may be funds available does not mean its wise to do so. its a pity for those that are used to them but apart from town and outside schools we really dont need street lighting. what would be a more sensible use of any money would be to convert the lighting to LEDs would save a fortune in power use. i find it very hard to walk in the dark. dred falling so im understand that it is unpleasant to move about in if your mobility impaired. .

do we all agree that its not wise for shetland to be dependent mainly on 1 or 2 traders. what value is local food production worth and what damage could the take over of local stores cost shetland. trouble is what can be done to insure an independent sector.
-
very nice shop. but if the larger country stores like brae and mainlands are swallowed up by the coop or tescos it impacts on the wholesale suppliers and even more local producers. its a very negative move for all the remaining stores. do we really want to be dependent on either of the major 2. and a very serious situation for our local food production and that includes our meat production.

country stores. weisdale was selling it.

During the search, the court heard Blenkinsopp picked up a hand grenade, took out the pin and “tossed” it on to the bed. it was that one.
-
nope not the one i read. will have a look
-
needs lots more publicity. and a weapon surrender policy as well
-
ok police where raiding a womans bedroom where she had a collection of weapons all the way up to anti tank weapons. the police where stood next to the bed in a manly none sexual way when she pulled the pin. another ex con was let off for owning a stun gun. because he thought it was just a normal torch. you know like you do.

coop seems to becoming a threat to local stores.

im becoming familiar with firearms law. funny enough an air weapon is seen as more of a danger than a hand grenade 18 months for pulling the pin and throwing it onto a bed next to two police officers. was surprised at that one. simular to stun guns meant to be a minimum sentence of 5 years. but often a lot less.

2 years penalty ott. the good reason i like. in general its over draconian could be done with much less fine for this and that. simply it needs locking up a record of who where and why. i still say this can be done as part of the buying process. and as an aside 12 year old killed in usa for having an airsoft pistol. he had taken the bright end off. he did not aim or fire it. i know its the usa but im just hoping our police would not but im not to sure. im sorry a chain is just not tough enough to stop even a young kid. iei dred to see a british report os a 12 year old being killed youngest is a 21 year old. ex solder

trouble is the Chinese are way better at english than we will ever be at Mandarin

still sad. it will end up being done overseas. wasted chance.

obviously politics aside. the armed police do find it difficult to judge between an air weapon and a firearm. maybe a banding of paint similar to the orange ends in toy guns. it needs to be easily spotted. that alone may save lives. as you say there is no reason to need to own an air weapon made to resemble an automatic weapon. you do need to ask what purpose they would put them to use.

i accept the snp idea is ott. my only concern is to insure nothing like it can take place again. i dont want a ban. just a few extra safe guards. its a sad fact that people are being killed by air weapons. more concerning as you would expect is the number of injuries. both accidentally ie friend shoots a friend and less accidental events. i agree not massively high. however 1 death/blinding or permanent wounding needs action. just to be clear im not trying to bring my son into this however it does show it can happen to anyone. the 2 firearms officer that dealt with sam were the local officers trained in firearms. they showed restraint. they could have shot samuel a number of times and would have been justified. they placed themselves at higher risk by not killing him. a helpful step would be if air weapons were made so it was clear that they were just that ie colour shape. why for example are http://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/# these allowed.

be nice you two. there has to be a balance. since our sons incident. my brother in law remembered that a nephew left one in his shed he surrendered it. please if you have one hanging about hand it in. same with any old shotgun or other firearm. just in case is better than o dear i never thought.
-
im not after a ban. just better control. not like what the snp want. a step down from firearms licencing. just a record a secure store and a health screen.
-
not the same. unless you eat the burger of a somewhat famous name your safe. think more like a dangerous dog breed. in the right hands can be safe however anyone and everyone owning one people will be hurt. punishments are all over the place, 2 years for one man for shooting his wife in the head 5 times related to domestic abuse. and another for pointing a red water pistol at some kids the same sentence. security needs to be upped tracing needs to improve. a health screen needs to be in place. can be done on a simple form that if you want one you fill out have your doctor confirms health and the firearm seller records it on the form and its then sent in. police record info and issue permit. no need for them doing all the work. just a suggestion. one sad case was a murder suicide both shot multiple times.
-
did you read the first link the long list of injuries. 1 person a year is at least 2 families destroyed. and no current laws dont stop a mentally disturbed person accessing them unlike firearms. security and tracking is not upto anything a chain wont stop anyone.

funnily ive changed my mind. at least 20 people were shot dead in the last 10 years. whilst in a conflict with police in the uk. most were ill.whilst possessing an air weapon. i now believe you need to control them in the same way as real firearms. must be secured in a gun case. must have a mental health screen of the whole family. personally i think shotguns and rifles need much tougher control. http://www.gun-control-network.org/IN1114i.htm have a read of the cases that happen. on a personal nature i dont want anyone else to be told that a child of theres is dead. its not worth it. not for them or the police that have to respond to them. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1315288/Police-shot-dead-33-people-1995--marksmen-named.html a list of those killed http://adc.bmj.com/content/86/4/234.full
