  1. but the post slaughter is what lets it down if its not up to the supermarkets quality standards we will never be able to sell our quality meat in the supermarket either up here or down south. that then rules us out from the main meat market. i was looking at the development trust investments and this shows that they have investments of only 0.1% in farming. i know that fish related items are important but if we dont have a fairer share out then like now we will be selling our animals as scottish welsh or whatever. can you imagine the new zealanders willing to sell theres as anything else. one of our council members wants the status quo to remain ie selling the lambs as store animals to the mainland. why? well i know if your going to make the most of the animals we have to finish them here, the same with our cows having them sent away for finishing or slaughter is daft. the profit is in selling the finished processed goods. the local butchers are great and they support local farmers were they can but even they find it hard to have local meat in all the time. so untill we can supply our own market what chance have we with the outside world. a friend wants to start a chicken farm he wants to produce about 300 birds a week (free range) but again he would need to have his own slaughter house and become a slaughterman. which of course has to be paid for and inspected and regulated. if we want to be free from dependancy on outside food supply this and other folks need to be supported. the amout of land turned over from crops to sheep needs to be reversed. the green houses at tingwall need to be used its a joke that we have important assets not being used.
  2. the first step would be a new slaughter house. its a joke that you cant buy shetland lamb in the supermarkets. next we should be showing the world that the sheep are from small well cared flocks. maybe the organic route should be looked at. the orkney sheep are special and i commend them for having the skills to market there lamb, beef, cheese, icecream ect.
  3. barrr humbug. no never they are hardly making any profit the poor things.
  4. keeping there 20p a litre profit margin, how nice for them. cant we get a deal with one of the oil companies at sullom to import some for us. st cost of course.
  5. so weres the 90% of matter thats missing. when science invents a theory it has to fit all the facts. they can not answer all the questions so the theory is not science fact. go back to the 19th century they invented mythical particals to explain away things that went against there theory.
  6. we had fish and chips at the brae chippy very nice chips excellent and they were busy to. hope it does not kill off the indian very friendly.
  7. about 9 am. if they were stood around im happy it could have been nasty.
  8. does anyone know if the crew are ok.
  9. glad the cats ok. if the paints that old it maybe worth the vet checking for lead. very helpful and a lot cheaper than ones in england.
  10. now you know they are the queens fish so more money to her royal highness. do you think the lifts could cope with big round bales?
  11. any way its only fare we built a croft house in chelsea this year. does anyone know how many ponies we ban get in southhall the high rises could make wonderful stables. i do doubt nigel but the buildings themselves have stuff going for them.
  12. is it for sheep its a bit harse isnt it.
  13. we dont know why nigel wants to move; and i dont see why mocking him will help. if his ideas are just that at least someone in london knows were we are. how is this build going to be payed for can't see a bank paying up. is it a waste of time we have learnt about a new building style and the wonders of mass pored concrete.
  14. or without this loan we could not afford a nice new house, car, holiday ect. have a look at some of the homes of some of these hard up/bust fish farmers and tell me there is nothing going on. we should stay well away from fish farming after all apart from its mainly norweigan now the product is falling in price. how much has been lost to these companies. and how much as been lent to people who went bust and then reapplyed for another. when we do give a loan maybe we should insist that we have the first charge and the loan must be covered by assets. and when we find one thats gone bust we get the assets like the jardine factory. we dont need to act like a bank but we should not allow money to vanish into who knows what.
  15. global warming. and if your going to laugh at other peoples theories you would have been the flat earther after all the earth going around the sun was once a wacky idea by a few odd types. they all are weird ideas but if we dont have weird ideas we dont have science. keep up the odd ideas but i dont see what any of it has to do with global warming

  19. if that is nigels comany this one shares the same phone number http://www.catch4.co.uk/index.html but i dont see why it matters if he folded a company or not. plus having a less abundance of hair than you once did will happen to most of us male posters or has done.
  20. intresting single status pay deal was told by a social carer that she was looking at a big pay cut. if he did talk to them that was an unexceptable interferance on the employees freedom to express there views by buying off one sector at the cost of another.
  21. sssssh dont let him hear you imply that he had any knowledge were his bro worked anybody could have made the mistake of not noticing his brothers name on the docs he must have seen. why did he not do the right thing and leave when he was told off. silly me he is a mate of someone from bressay. wonder why the council members allowed him to stay could it be that there fingers are not clean. we know there is a smell with the millers so who else has been over generous with the dosh to a relative or who has had money and not paid it back.
  22. £62 RETURN thats not cheap. if you go to foula you should plan on being stuck there. i cant see the folks in foula letting you fleeze to death but that not the same as taking enough cash to cover a few days of b&b.
