BACK to the topic anybody moving up here study up on what you are doing it will make your life easier. please dont be put off by some of the posts on this forum. shetland is a nice place to live but its not perfect . the people are in general great and helpful if you have a problem someone will help you. if you want to be a hermit shetland is not for you. dont expect city living and you wont be disapointed. i dont think we would make a very good pr company for promoting shetland. its odd that its the none residents who want to keep shetland "pure"

again you show your lack of knowledge of shetland. whilest doing some interviewing a while back the education dept are having to support a large and getting larger populaton of english as a second language pupils. the largest being poles but there are lots of non uk people up here, and guess what the people fit in. shetland does not want to become like the innercities of the uk. people are open to strangers up here after all there are a lot of us up here. your planning what. you will be lucky to build an out house let alone 1000 houses. in your previous posts you have said you want to come up and set up an iternet company so when you move you will be homeless and unemployed so were do we send your coach tickets to gateshead to. so when are we going to see you up here or is this just talk.

There is some dodgy thinking going on here an unemployed person ariving up here after leaving a home of some type will not get on the list. the most they will get is b&b or homeless shelter. the only folk arriving in shetland and getting a council home are nhs staff which are temp. and council staff ie teachers. if you want the islands to be populated there are only two ways of doing it either lots of babies or incomers. as someone pointed out shetland born shetlanders are becoming rare. with more births happening in aberdeen that would make them scots not shetlanders. my mum in law was born in the isle of man just because her dad worked there that gives the wife the right to live there. but that does not make her manxs. surly if a person has the desire and motivation to move up here they have protental. should fetlar want to welcome strangers from london into there community maybe they should impose anti hobbit regulations to stop wanbe cave dwellers from living there. as a english person wishing to live up here asking for an imigration quota on english people moving to shetland is like a turkey promoting paxo. what point system would you impose, how much would they have to bring in with them. would they have to undertake compusary dialect classes and give an oath of allegance to tavish or some other leader.

excellent shetland should be run by a londoner and a kiwi. so shetland should have no immigration expel all none true blooded shetlanders back to say 1800 that would resolve the housing problem. of course the trowies may be a bit lonely. the post was on housing not zenophobic racial/economic control. if we are to resolve the housing needs of shetland a long term plan needs to be created with also medium goals and short ones. if scalloway needs more housing then the plan should seek activily the land for the said homes. just sticking houses around lerwick will have a negative impact on the community in general. how many people on benifits can afford the 2-3000 to move up here. yes having loads and loads of unemployed moving up here would be terrible all those jobs in the care sector and fish processing would have to be done by the orrid british instead of importing (unemployed) workers from the rest of the world. if a british citizen moves to a part of britian and they have a higher housing need than another why should they not be housed. you would expect the same treatment in the uk. now if there is a massive demand for housing and a clear lack of supply then it should be built but not just in one area, at the moment there seems to be a lot of building in sandwick this is not just for locals so why are incomers wanting to live there. why can we not encourage the homless of lerwick to move out to the country. lerwicks infrastructure cant support many more homes.

Nigel the problem with the bad design is serious. to start with the sewage system has failed its been leaking raw sewage into the voe there has been problems for years. now as you have never been up here its only fare that you dont know that the construction standards of a lot of 1970s council houses is very poor. the houses themselves are of a good sizes just badly built. the council tried to put as many houses into a very small area. the access to a lot of the houses in firth is up passage ways and sets of steps ask the removal company how they enjoy moving people in and out of the estate. you know when your near a council estate they are mainly one style and are all grey.

well you do get hot climbing hills

new zealand must be nice hope you didnt get in front of any locals when you went down there. if a person is willing to give everything up and move somewhere then good on them. the only council accomidation that non shetlanders can get is if they are working for ether the nhs or the sic and then its only for up to two years.
