im afraid P.J. that it wont get kicked out. when they get there finger out and start the planning stage its to late. an option would be an apeal to the charity commision. as its a charitable trust they would have to prove the investment was not gambling the communities money away. i think they would have to show that the community was in favour of the scheme.

thats the joke its not the councils money they had to (sell) their share of ve to the trust. as a trust they seem to be forgeting that they are there to insure the money is used for shetlands future. this should also mean no more iffy loans to friends and family members of councellors. also the money leant should be classed as a priority debt lets us have our money back before forgein banks. if the VE scheme can be made to earn then thats good but if the tidal power thingies will produce more then we should go with them or a combination.

i agree what would it cost to paint them in some nice shades of colours. its typical that the water board have not do what they have a legal obligation to do so. they have spent a fortune on the houses at mossbank doing them up. it would have been cheaper and better to demolish and rebuild with better built housing. i was never keen on the house as it used to sway in the wind when it got stormy. firth and mossbank are just unlucky that they are very isolated from the other parts of shetland. apart from the shop who i really liked very nice staff. and the post office there is nothing there. the bus service stops to soon so your stuck without a car. think what could have been built there was loads of land and a beach to if the planners had just spent a little time on it they could have had a very well planned and thought out village.

you must remember that this is a sall island group your health services are not going to equal those of a large city. you will be cared for upto a point that they believe you need medi vacing to abeerden. any specialist treatments like cancer will be south as well hence the campain for a new centre for patients and famlies in aberdeen. each area has its doctors, dentist and other health services. each area has a care centre. the roads the main north south road and other main roads are duel carrageways and can be occupied by rather fast drivers however as long as you know the road its a very easy drive. living on the west side we mainly have single track roads with passing places again these are fine but you must be paitent and stop either in or opposite the said places. each aea has its plus and minus points for example a lot of people from lerwick will not live in the country and there are others who prefer the country. it all depends on whay you want in life. winter up here is grey and dull so make sure you come upbwith your husband and spend an extra day or two having a look around. in general the south is less wild than the north in hills ect. there is more beaches down south. apart from a few large villages/small towns the islands are country. if you move to the country expect to travel a lot. if staying in lerwick expect to be living on top of each other. this place is not perfect but its a lot better than towns in the south. it would be good if you had a hobby winters are long. the schools are some of best resourced ones in the country. your kids will love the schools as they are desperate for new kids lots of one on one attention. they will make friends easily as the folks are outgoing.

thats the point it does not matter what we each belive or not as the case maybe its the attitude we have. as long as we are happy with what we belive then we are not going to mind what someone else does and we will possibly end up with a nicer world. the trouble comes when we are faced by someone who thinks they know what is right and they want you to follow them. ive never been an extremist in what i belive but ive seen some very scarly believers. -
odd ist it that they always have to be in lerwick. of course i assume that thats were the demand is. ive not seen many empty council houses in the country except firth and thats down to bad disign and construction. and if they do build them please no more clamped concrete boxes. why must they always be on top of each other. its not as thou we dont have enough land. lets have some good design and thought put into them and who knows the people may like them and even build a community spirt.

thats what faith is about. you have faith god does not exsist and that man is the ultamate being. An atheist was walking through the woods, admiring all that the "accidents" that evolution had created. "What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!" he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. Turning to look, he saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him. He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw the bear was closing. Somehow, he ran even faster, so scared that tears came to his eyes. He looked again and the bear was even closer. His heart was pounding and he tried to run faster. He tripped and fell to the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but the bear was right over him, reaching for him with its left paw and raising its right paw strike him. At that instant the atheist cried, "Oh my God...!" Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. Even the river stopped moving. As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky, "You deny my existence for all these years, teach others that I don't exist and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?" The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical to ask to be religious after all these years, but perhaps you could make the bear religious?" "Very well" said the voice. The light went out. The river ran. The sounds of the forest resumed. ..and then the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together and bowed its head and spoke: "Lord, I am truly thankful for this food which I am about to receive.." -

they should be a penny cheaper than lerwick when they refill there tanks. i hope.

is it the new builds are way over the level of first time buyers. they seem to sell for between 150-200k on even 25-30k a year thats way out of there range. plus now with at least a 25% deposit the only folks who can afford them are incoming people. there should be more shared ownership houses.

odd that the calor gas prices have fallen now that they have compation. did i not hear that sullom did produce petrol and then it was injected back into the oil. if so how much would it cost to extract it. surly if its possable to do it up here it would be a lot greener and cheaper.

I quite agree, its not by chance... but by the amalgamation of Dust and Gas, a few million years of time and then good old evolution stepped in and the rest, as they say, is History. and were did the dust and gas come from. -
and why all in lerwick. i thought the water system in lerwick could not cope with a lot more demand. plus if you stick 200 houses in lerwick its going to speed up the movement from country to town and that is something shetland should be activly planning against.

was seal not eaten by the old shetlanders. watch the school dinners in future. how about oystercatcher when in season. what does seagull taste of. let me guess chicken. i was reading an old shetland cook book a while back some of the stuff in it scared me. terry platchet in the counter weight continent asked if the peasants only had the pigs feet who had the rest. well who had the other bits offishif they only had livers and heads.

we are very lucky to have so much wild life up here. untill i got up here i never saw a seal and an otter well very few saw them. and we can see them in town to.

we are very unpleased to say the least about the banks. they take our money yet they think they can just carry on as before. they fail to pass on intrest rate cut. and they are planning to give themselves 17 billion as a bonus. can you imagine awarding any bonus to someone who has messed up so badly. if they want our money NO BONUS. northern rock highest repo rate in the country. they should be stopped from taking peoples homes unless there is nothing that can be done. switch them to either council/housing assosiation rather than evict them. with the risk of high unemployment increasing its time the goverment started paying intrest on morgages before the 18 week wait. can you imagine telling the morgage company that they are going to have to wait for 4 months. i dont think they will be best pleased.

reminds me of the ludlow man(pete marsh) manchester museum wanted him but no the national museum pulled rank. if the st ninians tresure is of national importance why then is it not in a london museum it would look good set near the sutton ho tresure. there is a wave of returning cultually important artifacts back to there own cultures. if the island could put up a good enough case i fel it should be here. the tresure could have been made more promanant they just switched the copies with the real ones. the draw back for the national collections is every local community will wnt there items back.

the battens would spread the load so should hold better. try getting a natural colour some wind break stand out for miles and must spoil the gardens looks. there is also a polytunnel material that would do a simular job to the freece but is very tough. the norwegians use it to shelter there fruit crops. if you have the space try planting a shelter belt. we have a lot of hardy fuchias that stand upto the wind well.

have the yanks got rid of the ban on international sale of high tech stuff yet. it used to be hard getting computers from the usa. dealing with the usa on ebay they seem to fear posting internationally.

the idea is to break the wind up not stop it. if it stops the wind completly the wind goes over the top and causes more damage. yes its at Gremista. just thought if you fold it in half you could get a simular effect to the fleece type. and in summer perfect as a bird net if growing fruit. and its free. but its very heavy so a trailer would be needed.

if it happens again ask to speak to the manager. was it one of the cordless ones they have now discontinued them. though at a fiver the quality control is not going to be to good. we once bought a cheap steam iron from asda it looked great it heated up fine but it was rubbish at ironing it would not glide. that went in the bin
