  1. And you're just as consistent in missing the point, one being that they decided to replace them before they reached 25 years in age. because they produce more power for less turbines and a better built. simple commercial sense.
  2. you did. but you also ignored a persons statement that has had real experience of large scale turbines whether a 1/3 small matters little. stand under one and you will be impressed at there size. a simple rule the bigger the blades the slower they turn. so less l flicker if any it will be more like a shadow moving than a flicker. something the size of our would produce it but not the very large ones.
  3. our nearly here new poster needs to be treated with a little more respect they are new here and dont deserve being treated bad. crown point scout moor wind farm is close to todmoreden in fact there are 3 or 4 near tod. none has yet killed anyone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scout_Moor_Wind_Farm they are not small being 330 ft tall http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ad/Scout_Moor_from_Radcliffe.jpg/1920px-Scout_Moor_from_Radcliffe.jpg realistic most of the time this is a simular view to what we will get. scout moor is the largest on shore farm in england. http://www.coronationpower.com/dev_todmorden.html tis one is being built but as its near a former maggot factory. now that did stink. http://www.keldawater.co.uk/gorpley these are the same size as ours. tod really does have a lot of turbines near it.
  4. then the spin on the green subsidy falls into the same. as we are not told how much support oil gas or nuclear costs.
  5. you mean you dont believe a tory pm. wow how doubting. a bit mean to expect the north of scotland to pay an extra 40 odd quid. they must have the figures or they could not charge it
  6. so folks take your second jumper off and scarf.
  7. can the antis tell us are they happy to pay the real costs of our power or is it just the green subsidy that they object to,
  8. well if your counting that silly boundary change in 1972 i think. however until then it was roughly 2/3 lanky 1/3 yorkshire this from an 1870 gazetteer the calder was the boundary i believe.
  9. petes from preston. so we all know were your from
  10. welcome to shetlink and shetland. and when was tod in the west riding of yorkshire your lanky in hiding. we came up from rawtenstall 8 years ago and now live about 10 miles from walls. its best to be aware that the anti faction really won't except what your saying as it goes against there view. the turbines between rossendale and burnley were always worth a stop. the ones near gorden rigg were fun to if you did not get lost finding them. again welcome
  11. we have an evance system. apart from one auto shut off due to wind speed. its not had a problem. evance have had to alter the amout it feeds into the grid as they wont allow more than roughly 3.5kw connections the rest is sent to a dump heater. the installation went smoothly the groundworks guy was local and very friendly he is from twat. we thought they would destroy our park as it gets very soft but it was way better than we thought.
  12. no there is greed there as well. hence there cutting out there value ranges. tescos was meant to be a cheap supermarket when coop can compete on price then they have gone wrong. give me morrisons any day and for posh food booths.
  13. i dont believe a spouse that holds there partners hand will ever be prosecuted. however if they give the meds in this country thats a different issue, re the drug dose no profesional should be giving a lethal dose to treat symptoms. yes i know it happens. they would add different combinations of drugs to control pain. also when a person has been on a morphine based pain drug its very hard to say what is lethal as what would kill a normal person would be there normal dose. seriously some folks can be on very high doses and live. you see how easy that step to far is. the friend going into a care centre is not covered by this new law but you think its ok to die. what about a spouse who loses there partner after many years together should they be allowed. they often want to die and are of sound mind. yet with the right support and after they have overcome there grief they could have a happy life again. yet you would allow them to die. what we need in the uk is very good palliative care services properly funded. for example most palliative care is based around cancer very little has been done for terminal dementia or other life ending illnesses. lets get them in place then see if there is a demand.
  14. and where would you draw the line. and who decides what is mercy killing and what is something criminal. say you decide on a 6mths death date. what happens if are 7 months or a year away are they then guilty of a crime. what about none terminal people. do you allow them the same rights. where again should a line be drawn. is it then fare to stop suicidal people from killing themselves. after all they have decided that their life is intolerable. what should be done to protect those being pressurized. think your an aged person who needs care and has to go into a home a lot will wish to be dead at this point is that ok.. simply put if allow it there is no line.
  15. doing that here is a crime and righly so. because of ethics. fine if you want to die do it. dont ask others to help. thats a line that should not be crossed.
  16. they have the most experience of death and dying. there have been poles of the nursing and medical professions and they are always against assisted death.. doctors are mainly realistic with the exception of the odd few most know not to push treatments that will not benefit the dying. treating terminally ill people has improved as have how they are medicated. caring and dealing with folks that are close to death is a specialized area. hence why dying in hospital should be avoided as much as possible. http://bma.org.uk/news-views-analysis/news/2014/july/doctors-leaders-warn-against-assisted-dying http://www.carenotkilling.org.uk/articles/nmc-issues-warning/ http://www.rcn.org.uk/newsevents/press_releases/uk/rcn_launches_guidance_for_nurses_on_assisted_suicide i do admit there are the odd 1 or 2 who do not respond to the medication. in that limited cases i would be in favour but in general no. but even these cases there are things that can help with there pain. as said before its a difficult area. ethics is not straight forward.
  17. im not debating this subject as its a personal thing. ive seen a number of family die and lots of folks were i used to work. the wife sees dying folks every day and has seen has seen hundreds of deaths. the only bad deaths were missed managed. im sorry that your friend died like that. ask yourselves why doctors and most nurses are against it.
  18. http://ije.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2014/02/17/ije.dyu010.full the above shows that lone women are most likely to opt for death this way. there is no interdependent overview of Switz deaths. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/01/30/oregon-assisted-suicide-deaths-hit-record-high-in-2012/ the above is pro life however they are right that there is no safe guard http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19989167 the fist comment is interesting http://dredf.org/PIIS1.pdf it will happen its a small step from a dying person to a disabled and then on to others choosing for others, if you dont believe so im impressed by you optimism however i think its a very bad step, fine if someone wants to die let them but dont get doctors involved in it, dont make it legal to help suicide its a dangerous step,
  19. im against it. mainly because there will be a creep downwards. its happened where its legislated. once that barrier has been lifted its not far for it to become involuntary. then onto eugenics ect..
  20. if a house was badly effected then like any other industry they would have fix there impact. manchester airport had to install massive amounts of secondary glazing to counter the noise increase from there new runway.
  21. cant compensate for a future event. did those folks with a fine view of sullom get compo. now if you were right under one then yes you would deserve something. but when your arguing over a distance of 2 miles about unproven health risks get real. anyone getting compo for being in the blast zone of the fuel tanks. how about the stink from the power station that cant be good for you. then there is the stench from bressay. we can always try to panic people with these deadly turbines we should have learnt the dutch are all mad and that must be from there windmills. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTEbU8hSFrHnfVsUQuhuHjl6vjBe9Ask-5Cx48DyDbadPK6Z6rreQ
  22. AS yes it would have been best. i personally think the idea is very good and will be good for us. however i do agree the risk should have warranted a poll. We now enter the realms of politics when us humble serfs demand control. it seems even the flimsy representation that we had was to much. its now much to late 8 or more years ago would have been right, re the house move if its a new 5 or 6 bed house with really good land then im up for the switch as long as they can cope with our tumbled down croft.
  23. apart from the odd hiker being crushed by those feebly built turbines i would happily wager a fiver that no harm will befall any shetlander. but i bet someone will try it on. claiming compo. with our high depression rate drinking and other health issues good luck proving it. even the whimble was trying to get extra bird food until it was proven that it was unharmed.
