  1. very odd. most wind farms south have livestock under them. the cows at crown point in lancashire always seemed chilled out when we walked past them. sane with the sheep, maybe just maybe caging a wild preditor may stress them more, i was talking as a community as a whole not individual pockets, if you want to earn from energy take part and invest, greedy begger wanting something for nothing, ian what i meant was the 3 turbines are wholly owned by the energy company hence we still pay the green whatever its called but gain nothing back with viking and any other community energy schemes we as a community get benefit from them, so in a way making them cheaper, if we want to help the energy poor lets arrange something with the generation group. cheap heating systems ect. even free power for pensioners. stopping the winter deaths shame, it cant be that hard to do. the above poster sounds like unlink if so welcome back.
  2. we will be paying more for those 3 as we wont be reciving any payments for production. and if we are going to go on about subsidies remember our power supply is subsidized a lot by other sse customers.
  3. even more simply you need to be near the equator to gain from the rotation of the planet. launching from the poles is equal to zero and at the equator your gaining an extra 1040 mph on your flight. but more importantly were would you rater be Florida or scotland. a very difficult question for the space boffins.
  4. they will. first part of the cable run has been approved. ps the turbines wont be on the top of the hills cut say a 3rd off.
  5. colin the nuclear option is much more expensive.
  6. will listen to it i missed it. you don't need a mock up there will be 2 near the tip in the near future.
  7. so. if folks feel they can make a profit on a large investment good on them. if they had been mini oil wells would that be any better. its clear by just driving around that a lot of folks think that wind is good. the only thing stopping a lot more being built is the connection issues.
  8. well that was no surprise just wasted 2 years of time. it will now be build the momentum is there. the need for a subsea connection is there. the desire to generate green energy is high. lets get it built and see.
  9. i knew there had been a few but thats a lot. the staffy bulldog when trained well is a lovely pet. when not well have a look at the sspca rehoming site. it really tells a sad story.
  10. our turbine has reduced our bill from 230 to under 40. if we were more careful it would be lower. i thought the air source pumps were really only suited to newer better sealed homes. our is the complete opposite.
  11. IM not risking turning the thing off. you really don't understand our rubbish connection. it can take 2 days to calm down when it goes off
  12. i agree the cost at the moment is very silly. 4 million would get you a couple of giga watts of wind. however these turbines are like the first of any tech vastly expensive give it a few years and it should drop. not sure what it will end up as but i guess more than wind. with the new boilers that produce power these isle could with a bit of thought be 100% green. wind wave sun thermal all need to be used. with a lot of insulation of our older housing stock. may even be cheaper to fund the replacement of the worst homes.
  13. with this second larger tidal turbine system about to be installed next year its looking very likely that the undersea cable is needed and will happen. if not the sea based systems will be dead in the water,
  14. quite right. if i was upto walking i would have been there. 600 is a major % OF SHETLAND TO MARCH. when did 3 % of preston march on anything. if the elected folks in the council dont take heed of what folks are saying then they should not be there. they are all independent so should represent their voters wishes
  15. its part of there plan to try and split the opposition to closing. they first tried the school by school hit when that failed they tried to treat the isle children differently ie keeping yell open. because they had promised then adding unst into the schools to stay open. they are now attacking the age range so some schools will eventually close as parents send there kinds to lerwick for a seamless education. as that seems to be failing they are now after the isle schools. they will hit the easier targets first whalsay .seems to be an ideal target isolated from the other schools. remember there goal is for all the jhs to be shut no matter what they say. they have to justify the new anderson high school. there shiny ego trip. the money they have wasted on that project would have covered there savings for a number of years. the real secret is that they have been over paying for education for years. if they were paying the same as the rest of scotland there would be no need to find cuts. remember its there poor management/ control of costs that has caused this problem. not the schools themselves.
  16. oh vaila is good. you have noticed that she has got closing schools back on the blueprint. very sneaky. with the views of the scottish ministers its very clear that there preferred option is similar to the us system of junior highs feeding to high schools, so years s1-3 at the local junior high followed by y4-6 at high schools. so really whats needed is the same jh as now with the possibly of a merged unst, yell and fetler high school based on yell close unst jh with some video conferencing/ travelling to say brae for bressay the start of s4 would be a sensible transfer point. maybe even merge the anderson with the collage. make it more collegiate. the above would save a fortune in transport and allow more choice of courses..
  17. re the social care they reduced the number of carers. at last count there were 14 bed blockers in the hospital. cant be discharged to no care package. in most of the rest of the uk each delayed discharged is billed to the social services at 100 a day luckily for sic they dont have to pay the 0.5 million that this could cost them. is it not strange that they cant meet the basic level of care yet have a massive wage bill. some thing is not right in the sic. re the education vaila in a meeting at aith made it clear that the closing of schools was purely money driven. all this waffle on quality is garbage. its being used to push through her and the officers agenda which is to have just 2 high schools,
  18. is it how much has the oil industry avoided paying to the shetland people with there renegotiation of the original oil agreement. time to revisit that agreement after all they were conned into agreeing the change. 2 has it was a rather iffy chap who talked to the gas folks think we should see what was agreed. a penny a cubic meter would be a good starting point. 3 how many millions has been wasted on failed/ badly managed projects. 4 why is the council care way more expensive than other councils, same with education, in fact the threat of being run by the scottish government may be the cheaper option. with decent cost controls there would be no needed for savage savings.
  19. i hope it goes well and the skills of the viewforth staff are not lost. funny that the only unit specializing in dementia care is closing that the nhs are recognizing the health care gap between a palliative ie last year of life dementia patient and one dying of cancer. hopefully there will be more staff trained in the care of dementia soon. the planning of any move needs to be done very carefully you can lose some residents if its not done properly.
  20. they have always been helpful anb friendly when we have been.
  21. **starts furiously fapping** Nnnn. More more... more. *yawn* **starts furiously fapping** Nnnn. More more... more. *yawn* what excellent modulating. read the new rules trouty its a fact its one of the new requirements. plinking in the back garden will not be allowed rambling around others land with a gun is out of order. but hey if he gets caught im sure you will pay his fine.
  22. without consent its not responsible. please read http://basc.org.uk/airgunning/basc-air-rifle-code-of-practice/
  23. note getting on any high horse what you say you do is unlawful now unless you have all the landowners permission. im not sure you would even get away keeping the gun in a tent. you do know that it needs to be securely stored. put it this way if i had sheep on ronas or owned it you would not be welcome on it with a gun. if the licence comes out your not likely to get one if you dont have land to shoot on. without consent your a poacher too.
