so what routine xrays would it be ok to cancel. by law there must be 8 hours rest between shifts on calls are only done with the staffs goodwill. i really cant comment on the xray department but i bet it will work like community. you work your normal week and upto a few years back you committed to work a number of on calls. for nurses this was stopped a waking shift was employed and the day staffs pay was reduced. the waking shifts fail due to sickness ect. day staff are then expected to cover. if it happens your called out a few times your working 8am to 5pm the next day. you cover the full island. so yes i can understand why a none urgent xray decided by a doctor can wait. it was strapped up. most likely nowt else would be done.

she would have been seen. radiographer are always on-call they don't just tell folks to leave. ive been diverted to the walk in doctor once if i was south i would have been kept in did i mind no why because we cant be the same as a large town hospital. 6 weeks ago my doctor refereed me to a&e with chest pains. the care was excellent and just as fast and thorugh as any where. i was xrayed and received loads of tests. i was admitted to ward 3 and was set to wait over the weekend. i cant cope in strange places so i bullied the doctor to allow me home but to report each day. i took my chances and ignored the best advice. i was lucky. so if your seriously ill or potentially you will be seen and treated and if needed xrayed and scanned. but if its not urgent please dont expect to receive urgent care outside hours. if you want more folks on duty you will need to pay more. its not just a&e those radiographers need to rest. would you want an exhausted person to see you. they will come in cheerfully if needed but not for minor injuries. brian you should know that as trade union rep people just cant be on duty 24/7. remember you need to be fit for your normal shift afterwards.

im not saying its ok. im saying it what it is. if you want a fully manned hospital 24/7/365 you will need a load more money. re patient from yell im saying they would have been seen by a doctor/ anp nurse and deemed not to need an urgent xray. i dont know if that was correct. re vets visit. you pay a lot more for an out of hours visit. and yes our animal do receive a quicker and sometimes better level of care than we do. we had to stallions gelded a month ago i think i would prefer the human version.

as a Crown Dependency we lose our vote to westminster. we are governed by a Governor we may be allowed an elected advisory council but that is all. its a retrograde step from being a democracy even if a poor one. to being ruled by an appointed yes man.

if none clinical staff were to work bank holidays it would cost a fair bit in extra pay. if you want 24/7 clinical care we will either need to pay more or move. just out of intrest are you aware that out scanner is only used part time because we have a contract with aberdeen that prevents us using it full time. not to do with staff manning it.it also classed as obsolete. say we have 3 xray staff members we can only expect them to work a set number of hours. they come in when needed it must have been decided that the womans condition did not warrant calling in staff. a small break in a foot really is not life threatening but very painful as you would expect. only solution is to employ more staff. and you know that is not in any plan. they are planning to reduce staff numbers. so expect more of the same. simply put dont injure yourself outwith 9-5 weekdays. you really need to be worried by the reduction in nursing and related staff and the skillbase those left have. loads of very skilled and talented folks have left in the last few years. its also silly to allow your staff to leave without trying to prevent it. it costs 1000s to recruit off island. but im sure you will be pleased to know the number of real managers has increased each year. ive never understood why an island needs 2 public health consultants. yet we dont have a psychologist on island. before our chair takes on orkney maybe he should pay more attention to the job he is paid to do now. just remember its not tje doctors/nurses fault if you cant be seen due to poor staffing levels its the boards fault.

you wont be entitled to any of those as a crown dependency.

iceland does all tjat brian says and yes it does all need to be planned. but could we do it alone or would orkney join in.

please examine closer the Falklands health service its not public. in fact look at the Manx and channel isles health service its all private and quite expensive. re oil a condition must be set for it to be pumped here. in fact why not refine it ourselves. fishing why do we just export the raw product lets do the processing and sell the product with an added value. lets be a vat free zone. we could supply bonded warehousing. we cant be dependent on one industry. just imagine if we were independent and we lost 250 jobs over night. if oil becomes cheap reduce production until prices improve. re nationality if you say choose say a residency of 2 or 5 years then apply the same rule to folks off island. if your away for more than a set period you lose your say. you will be required to return and for fill the residency requirement. you cant use born here verses none natives it does not work. in fact thanks to my wifes mum living in the isle of man for 5 years 70 odd years back we can reside there. education we could expand our college to a uni and import overseas students. will it happen of course it wont but a nice idea.

please remember your a long way away from your family. if you have any elderly family consider carefully the time it will take to return if your needed. we missed 2 very close family members deaths. dont if you move up to either island group think your moving away from your troubles. education is very different if your wife need urgent heart support your looking at a medivac to at least aberdeen. you dont mention you occupation. is there an opening up here for you. moving costs are expensive and finally remember the house buying system is different in scotland. your looking at paying at least 10% over the asking price.

all put in this year. but unless your not touring about. i would say dont. distances are pretty big. would be cheaper to hire up here.

can i ask why disability Shetland had a small boat. most disabled could not easily make it on board.

if the council want to put a few temporary buildings up im pleased to loan them the land. one of those hotels that were in the paper would be fine.

its become very expensive. we seem to have noticed since the new manager came a switch from value priced items to pricier ones. obvious example is the cooked meat section. fresh vegetables have been poor for a while. wife loves fresh sweet corn but tescos stuff is not even lasting 2 days. im finding coop a better choice at the moment food is nicer fresher. even tescos cloths have become expensive.

i sent a violin to france. box arrived all tape had been cut. it was returned to me. well the box was. very odd how parcels just open themselves. and of course you dont receive the postage back just the value. it was nicked in the uk. yet they still sent an open empty box abroad. strangely buyer refused to accept it. the french are always picky.

very odd. if it was a suspect parcel it would have been all opened. not just outer. its possible theres a rat problem but it would need to be a very bad one if its always happening you could suspect it may be in wet conditions. your last one may have been affected by the flood in aberdeen.

it looks more tampered than inspected. i used to receive parcels from the usa a lot and customs inspectors tend to be neat. its odd that youve had it happen 3 times. can i ask what was in it.,

you could not really do it. you would require 4 different sections. men/ women and same for under 21s. you cant just lock a person in a cell for 24 hours. so communal zones. each section would need to be permanently staffed by permanent prison officers. as some folks are on remand for upto a year it really is cheaper and better for them to be south.

nope by law they need to be there. i know our son would take a week or more to calm down afterwards. they would keep him over night at Grampian. then try to make the first flight from aberdeen. it was often after midnight before they returned. its really not fare to blame the escorts for difficulty over seats. it requires 3 seats per prisoner. its known the sheriff is very Grumpy when delayed.
