  1. What about considering the feelings of the families of all those murdered? They did nothing wrong either.
  2. Yes, I do actually. My son may not have achieved what Michael has, but he did very well. He will be able to take the highers that he wants, and go on to do his chosen career. What matters to me most of all, is that I know my son tried the best he could, what more can a parent ask for?
  3. Well done, not only to Michael, but to all the students who worked so hard to get good, excellent and fantastic results (My own son included). There is so much pressure on the youngsters just now, and I think they work extremely hard to achieve what they do. Congrats to all
  4. You may need to find the underlying reason why this person offends. ... ... All very worthy, but I wonder would you have the same point of view, if this person had sold one of your children/wife/other close relative very dear to you, their drug of choice, and they ended up dead as a result? (*** Mod - excessive quoting trimmed ***)
  5. People who think it's their god given right to treat you like a piece of dog turd, just because you work in a customer service position. I am not there for you to realease your temper, or to be sworn at or to be treated like a piece of scum!
  6. Thanks guys-most helpful! Will take a trip to the tip shortly!
  7. Can anyone tell me if there is anywhere in Lerwick or South of, that I can recycle paper please? Thanks
  8. Yes Fjool-He did Postie left the gate open and he saw his opportunity. Thankfully, some lovely people found the little so and so, and kindly brought him home. Extra safety measures are now being implemented!
  9. Dog footie at its best! (***Mod Edit - Youtubified link***)
  10. Regardless of Postcode, have you tried seeking employment "outside of the box"? (I'm a ZE2 postcode and have had no problem securing employment). Buy a few stamps and send your CV to potential employers-you don't always have to wait for them to advertise-try on the offchance-what have you got to lose except a few stamps? There are notice boards in both supermarkets in town where you can advertise yourself and any skills you may have, both of which are free. Also, Shetlink is another way to do this-also free. You could make up cards or posters to put up in local shops to your area. You never know who might see them and want to immediately employ you! Best of luck in your search.
  11. I would very much like to support the local shops, and I do so when I can,but I have to live on a budget like many other families. Not everyone has unlimited funds to spend. I will buy the things I need at the cheapest price available to me, whether that be locally, or from outwith Shetland.
  12. The price for shipping a small item up here with good old tesco is £20!!! Hydro quoted me £35 to deliver an identical freezer to the one I just bought from Tesco. They had to do 20 mile down the road. I got ALL of my order for £50 from Tesco...No comparison in my eyes.
  13. I have just receieved my first Tesco direct order. You have to phone them to place the order, rather than place it online. Nice helpful lady on the phone. I ordered a large upright freezer, a single mattress, 2 sets of large wooden blinds, and a tall storage rack. Delivery charge £50. I think this is pretty good value considering it all came in seperate deliveries, to my door. JBT, who deliver these orders, phoned first to let me know when it would be coming. Ok, at first £50 seems quite a lot for delivery, but all in all, I had a very good service all round and I would order again.
  14. Its so good, I'm prepared to travel
  15. Does anyone know where I can get Orkney Ice cream in a family size tub? (Apart from going to Orkney to get it!) Haven't seen it anywhere except in small individual tubs Thanks
  16. Tesco Direct are delivering here for a trial period. Charges are quite expensive. Ordinary delivery £4.95 to mainland. Delivery here surcharge of £15 on small items and £55 on larger items!
  17. However one chooses to sell their unwanted items, be it through Shetlink, eBay (other auction websites are available), or even the Shetland Times, if the seller is rude and obnoxious, people are not going to buy are they? It's not rocket science!
  18. Hmm, well why waste folks time replying on threads you obviously have no intention on buying? One thing shetlink doesnt need is folk posting cr*p (and SPAM) like you Well said!
  19. Anyone here with the THTC (Total Heating Total Control) twin meter system gets much cheaper power for two or three hours twice a day, principally to recharge the storage heaters and heat water. If memory serves the timer switch kicks in between something like 4pm - 6pm and 4am - 6am every day in summer, and 3pm - 5pm and 3am - 5am in winter. I have got this tariff but only found out when I tried to switch suppliers. I have 3 bed bungalow, only 2 main heaters are on, with 1 in bathroom, and normal day to day electric use and I pay £131 a month. If you try to switch suppliers-you can't! When you try to do the price comparison, the THTC option is nowhere to be seen with the other suppliers,(its only a Hydro Tariff) so no comparison can be made, therefore you are stuck at Hydro and can't change. As for THTC being cheaper, I can't see any benefit anywhere. I do all the obvious-low energy lightbulbs, turning lights off. I've even had Hjaltland come and test all my electrical eqipment. I'm conviced the rest of the street is wired into my meter and I'm paying their electric too!! There's only 2 of us and I fail to see where it's all going. Neither of us is in all day.....
  20. Asda Direct now deliver to Shetland. I placed an order, arrived quickly, with no probs-and it includes the clothing range - George@Asda. Also have had goods from Woolworths with no probs.
  21. At the end of the day, whatever the limit is set at, whether it be 15, 20 or even if it were 30kg, it still wouldn't please some people. The simple answer is if you want to avoid baggage charges, don't go over the limit-when they finally make up their minds what that is going to be! You can have a pop at me for not knowing that the limit was going to be changed, but I do not have a crystal ball I'm afraid-I wish I did! Who thought a wee suitcase would make people so rude?
