  1. well i think the both of you just knocked the nail on the head. from what i can read into it while unst seem to have arrogance that yell is beneath (excuse the pun) them in a football sence and with the thomson brothers away and from what i hear liam macgregor maybe finding another club from what i hear maybe not true? i also heard the mouat man was jackin it in due to injury, so they will struggle i mean they are a crackin football side but with them missing your tearing out the heart of the side. if the two did merge they would have a squad that would cope through the season maybe not the best squad but still a squad that could also play in the b league and would at least that would allow the younger players to be bled in to senior level (i am well aware that this dose not always happen) but if the 2 were allowed to drop down would that not be a slap in the face to burra who asked if this could be done for them??? would that not bring in to question the football association decision a couple of years ago am pretty sure that that if the A league were cut down in size it would become a bit of a running joke i mean 8 teams from 11 a couple of years ago how long before its 6?
  2. well dose it not make sence for them to merge although i also heard that yell was considering doing the same as burra did and join the works league? but that was a while ago
  3. bloody hell mr parker you seem to be the man in the know any other revelations you know of?? you have to watch you will be getting a column in shetland times before long. i did hear delting was making a hasty attempt to get diego maradona as there manager after the poor season last season as he may be available to take the job and is said to welcome the task of managing the same caliber of player as messi augero and mascharano at club level
  4. GK.P.Grant (Celtic) CB.K.Nicholson (Whitedale) CB.R.Arthur (Whalsay) CB.M.Jamieson (Delting) RWB.L.Flaws (Delting) LWB.R.Moncrieff (Celtic) CM.K.Williamson (Whalsay) CM.D.Anderson (Whitedale) CM.J.Johnson (Spurs) CF.R.Maccdougal (Delting) CF.E.Thomson (Unst) i know he usally plays in midfield but i would play him up top we ross as he played well in the inter county
  5. What a contradiction! You called for John Johnsons removal in order to progress. If the results in the games are progression heaven help us!!! John Johnson replaced the Island games with a Highland League tour. The standard of which was arguably superior. Four games in four days against teams finishing in the top 6 of the Highland League. In his two years in charge Shetland played seven games against Highland League opposition with a record of 2 wins 2 draws and 3 defeats and 2 Inter-County wins (out of 2) against Orkney. How is it a contradiction we havent had a chance to progress we have played what 5 games 4 losses and 1 draw in what 7 months with a changed team which is still yet to gel we lossed to the hosts who droped 2 points we drew with Menorca who hammerd greenland and who could have bet aland and lossed on the final day when we were aready out so it was more about giving players a run out that anything else the important game is against orkney and if we do poorley against them fair enough. but you said yourself the senior players wernt happy! so all wasnt rosie and how you can say the highland league is superior standard of fitba is beyond me have you ever watched a highland league game unless cove deveronvale and maybe inverurie locos are playin its like watching rugby boot and chase no real skill bar 2 players in each team were as most teams in the island games are made up of real quality footballers all round the team. oh and i didnt mean for it to sound like i lay the all blame at john johnsons door for not going to rodes in know it was a committee/association decision i just think as manager i would peronally whould have demaned to go and defend the title we won.
  6. how have i changed my tune i said we needed to make a change to have a chance of progressing which happend, and the fact that john jamieson got the job made the most sence and as we have been over before nobody else showed an intrest in the job and as for john johnson he probley did take them back two years by not taking the team to the island games in 05 although i know the blame is not purly at his door step he did what he thought was right at the time all credit to for taking the job when nobody else would touch it, i completly agree with the comments of Auld Rasmie and nederlander this isnt a bunch of pros the guys who have gone have put a lot of work in and desreve the support of the whole island, i know some of my comments in the past i have maybe gone over the line and i am sorry for that but i like a lot of people in shetland just want to see the shetland team do as well as they can.
  7. I To be fair whatever this team did they were needing a near miracle to get out of the group stage they were behind every other team right from the start, pulling out of the 2007 games has caused alot of the problem as shetland were basically going in blind as they had very little idea of the calibre of player they were against not forgetting the fact that this squad maybe isnt as good as its has been before. but i feel just from speaking to those who are in and around shetland football this team never really had the full support they needed by that i mean players not showing a 100 pecent dedication to the cause weather it be refusing to play or not turning up to training and everybody having an issue with ethier peanut leaving or j j getting the job this has been a poisend chalis from the start i hope it gets better but god knows,
  8. that is true 2 players like that may play in the same postion but are completly diffrent players any news on the new manager yet? seems to have gone cold av only heard 2 names mentiond latly myself which is john jamieson and robbie simpson ?
  9. just looking at the comments i feel sorry for the sfa because lets face it what ever you do someone is going to be unhappy as for the plans for the works league teams coming in how will they keep going with no youth system and how about trying to get burra back in
  10. Yes, that's your opinion. Here is another one of your opinions. This one was regarding the Player of the Year. I am not sure if they have a top three or not ? If so, was Alan even in the top three ? ok alan duncan didnt win player of the year probley because he was missing at the start of the season i also said merv jamieson should have been considerd, many people i spoke to felt the same thats taking nothing away from ross moncrieff who did have a good season the leask macdougall debate 1,physically joe leask is not aswell built and gets pushed around and bullied of the ball were as ross macdougall is bigger and stronger if you were to ask any center-half in shetland am sure they would rather play against joe leask as you could domanite him especially in the air 2.maybe bar this season as he was mostly injured ross macdougall has the better goalscoring record through the seasons (to be fair joe leask is younger) 3,Ross Macdougall has a better work rate as he will run all day which suited the system that we played for the last 4 or 5 years but i am not saying he is a poor player!! i just cant see the reasoning for picking joe leask ahead of ross macdougal if it were a forward 2 i see the point but i would still say you have 3 or 4 better strikers than joe leask although i think he is more of a wide man as he is a very skillfull player
  11. i would have alan duncan in my team but he no longer lives in the island as for joe leask ahead of ross macdougall thats just made my day al be laughing all day about that one,
  12. i dont unerstand this argument about mangers with sons ??? if you are good enough you play! it will become a problem if they pick average son who is not better than those avalible, as the view that john jamieson would pick some fringe players from delting, to be fair some of the players who played for shetland over the past 2 year are no better than some of there fringe players at delting JUST to throw this out there if you had to pick a 21 man squad to go who would it be that was the whole point of my thread before peanut resigned i know that mine would be Goalkeepers.C.DINWOODIE,DELTING G,THOMPSON,WHALSAY, E,PETERSON, NESS Defenders, M,JAMIESON,DELTING, R,ARTHUR, L,KAY,SPURS, B,DUNCAN,DELTING , R,MONCRIEFF,CELTIC, L,FLAWS,DELTING, K,WILLAMSON,WHALSAY, Midfeilders, J,JOHNSON, SPURS, D,ANDERSON,WHITEDALE, R,JAMIESON,DELTING, E,THOMPSON,UNST, S,HAY,DELTING (IF AVALIBLE) I,SIMPSON,WHALSAY, P,MOLLOY,WHITEDALE Forwards, A,DAVIDSON,SCALLOWAY L, PEARSON,WHALSAY, R,MACDOUGALL, DELTING, S,UMPHARAY,SCALLOWAY
  13. , but as the previous and current Captains of the County select both admitted at Monday's meeting that the dedication to training by the squad will have to increase, you can have the best manager in the world at Amateur level but if the players are not on the same wavelength then its is hard to achieve your goals. thats a great point penfold but if thats the case with certian players there is in my view a wealth of talent so get rid of those with no commitment and bring in those who will want to play for the county also i was probably being harsh with the out of his depth comment but its been something i was holding in for a while as my passion is for all things football it was hard to sit back and see something you want and know could be a sucess being back tracked and you couldnt do a thing about it , especially when there seemed to be favouritism with players and teams i couldnt understand how players like alan davidson ian simpson grant thompson laurance pearson steven umpharay erik thompson lewis kay brian duncan were left out and lesser players included although i did hear a certian player refused to play for shetland under john johnson???? but as you say he did take it when nobody would touch it for that he dose deserve a lot of credit but with the new manager coming in he is going to have to act quick to get a squad together and build a team to challange for the games and inter county
  14. well kirsty if that is your name ????? thats my opinion he didnt do much but fair play to the guy for having a go but i think am right in saying it was his first senior job???? thats would be one of the reasons i said he was out of his depth i think if it was any other job in shetland ie club he would be a very good manager i do agree with stoichkov that it was a hard job but some of his team selection ceartainly raised eyebrows. i think theres really only 2 candidates for the job if shetland are looking for someone to take them to the next level one is like kirsty says john jamieson or martin gibb who has done great work with both whitedale and shetland youth teams but thats if there allowed but i wouldnt say that the squad of 2005 is un-reachable we do have unbelievable talent in the league its just a matter of getting them together and allowing them to develop in to a good team like the team of 05
  15. would bristow be interested to try it again
  16. To be Brutaly honest its a good thing i couldnt see shetland going anywere but back with john johnson (no offence to the man ) he just seem to be out his depth, As for john jaimeson as the new manager it will mean a whole new squad in i would think but will he take the job he just won 6 trophys this season with a weakend delting side ????? is there any others who would be up for the job??
  17. yeah they are going so dose anybody think they have real chance with the current set-up ??????????? i peronally think we are going to struggle a poor inter-county showing along with only just beating the devernovale c team and a fair beating by cove rangers am not convinced we will make it out the group stage i want to see the shetland team put up a fight for the title they won in 2005 (am i the only one thinking along these lines) i just dont want to see years of hard work by those in the years before go to waste
  18. With the recent news that the shetland football team is to be going to the island games is this current squad able to go and defend the title thay won in 2005 ??? and will there need to be an overhaul before they go????????? [/u]
  19. best goal ive ever seen on the island was a bycicle kick by bruce bennent at fraser park last year ball floated in the box and with his back to goal at a seemingly impossible angle caught the ball and it wizzed past hte scalloway keeper, resulting in a ravenelli type celebration which resulted in him getting booked
  20. am postive he was i watched the game ross jamieson was going to start but pulled out with concusion at the last minute if i remember right it was bristows last game before the county
  21. Delting will be the strongest team in shetland for a while i think but whalsay will come close
  22. easy he hardly had a bad game this year and when he has been in midfield he has looked a quality player like he showed against spurs and whalsay at the end of the season
  23. i have never heard of a team of the year with only 2 of the championship winning team in it ??? you have to explain that one to me and did erik thompson even play much games this year 3-5-2 GK.Erik Peterson CB.Merv Jamieson CB.Richard Arthur CB.Lewis Kay RWB.Leighton Flaws LWBRoss Moncrieff CM.Alan Duncan CM.Brian Duncan CM.James Johnson CF.Laurence Pearson CF.Paul Molloy
  24. spurs have played good football delting have still outplayed everybody so it would beetween one of them 2 for me
