  1. A CEO is only as powerful as he is allowed to be.

If he is surrounded by people who only wish to suck up to him, for their own gain he doesn't need to work hard. If however he has people who will challenge him, for the general good of the populace,, then democracy starts to work. Our CEOs don't really need to keep their heads down, as no-one ever finds enough energy or courage to challenge or bombard them.

He always greeted me when he saw me even when I didn't know who he was.

I found out who he was on the 3rd November 2017.

Now that is a pretty good heads down.

    Congratulations to the council.

    Regards,

    Rex

  2. I duly waited until approx 1500hrs in the procedures room I called forward and was told by the surgeon that he was loath to carry out the biopsy, because of the possible risk of infection and because of my age.

    I am 81yrs.

I have been anticipating problems and what I would do if there was bad news.

So here is what I had  planned for my future,

I would defer any operation that may have been planned for me.

I would go on holiday for a month or so and become hedonistic

    -------------------------------------------------------------

I will take Dylan Thomas's advice,

I have no idea where I will go.

I will look for and find,

    "Lazy laughing languid Jenny,
Fond of a kiss and fond of a guinea,
Whose head upon my knee to-night
Rests for a while, as if grown light"

There you see how a lot of pleasure can come from

    bad news

  3. Tomorrow I go to GBH to have a transrectal prostate biopsy. So I have been given various medications to balance out my blood viscosity and others as a pre op antibiotic boost.

Am I worried ? Not in the least.

The only thing I am worried about is the advice I have been given, which is do not read about the side affects because , "They will drive you mad" ? This advice has been given to me a lot lately by doctors, nurses, surgeons etc. I have questioned this and have also tested the knowledge of the "advice giver."

It seems that if the patient knows the possible problems, they become a threat to authority !

These are not my words but Dr Phil Hammond.

He also mentions that 10,000 people are killed each year by the side affects of medications.

So here  I go, fully aware of the risks, confident in my surgeon and looking forward to the music in the Bressay hall at the weekend.,

  4. I was sent to have a biopsy on my prostate gland GBH last week.

On arrival and during the pre op details, they found that they had no record of my having atrial fib and consequently no record of taking warfarin. This meant that I could have bled severely during and after my op. Now I have had 3 ops since, and I know, for certain that it was known that I had a possible severe bleeding problem. The surgeons obviously had seen these records too!

Why and where had these notes gone?

In an earlier post here, I told of being taken off a list of Warfarin users but it was covered up in the health centre. Once again.

Why and where had these notes gone?

Now at this same time I had said that I was going to stop taking my anti depressants because I had started to believe that they were or could be the reason for some of the mental issues I had developed. See my last post. I was told to carry on taking them. Another doctor suggested that I should increase the dose because I was obviously not coping with my depression, hence my blaming the pills.

I was diagnosed as a depressive well into the teens of years ago. The pills that I have taken during these years have been, Seroxat, Lustral and Sertraline.

I obviously cannot say that they have been at fault for my latest diagnosis of, Mild Cognitive impairment, Deep White Matter Ischaemia. Throughout this thread I have been giving my symptons as they happened and I have recently given links in various places. My recent one was for possible side effects for Sertraline.

On the BBC 2 days ago was a program,

    Panorama,

    A Prescription for Murder?

I did suffer some of the symptons but I didn't murder anyone.

These problems have been going on for many years and in many countries, hence my French, German  emails. I have sent them links to the above  program

Why haven't our doctors listened to our patients and linked these problems.

    I did, thank goodness

I am still not a doctor but I have proven.that, I still remember how to use the scientific method.

How on earth are we going to have a tv program on tv about how the NHS works up here

Elvira y Tony, ¿podrías contactarme por favor?

  5. At 1723 today I was 'phoned by a person asking if I had been contacted by our community nurse!.

I said no, and asked who was calling,. she said some name and said she was a nurse that, "I had met,"

Anyhow the community nurse was "supposed" to have given me a message this morning about not taking my warfarin anti coag pills tonight

She said that she had been trying to contact our community nurse but couldn't and maybe I hadn't been in or hadn't heard her knock or maybe even been  in bed. First of all I was up at 0500, the door was open and I hadn't been out in the morning. At lunch time my care worker was with me for about an hour and she had knocked on the door This is the second time in a week that this has been used as an excuse. Putting the onus on me, either in bed, out or bloody deaf.

My next appointment with the community nurse had been agreed for this coming thursday. She then said that I should not take my pills.

I was told that I should try to contact the nurse  and speak to her and if I couldn't I should 'phone 111.

I said, " that is an emergency number", the answer was," yes but they know where the nurses are".

Now, do I give in and say that, I am  going mad?. I had already taken my pills so have I poisoned myself? Or is it a case of someone has a case of, Munchausen by Proxy but, it could be an elaborate joke.

Now I was otherwise engaged and the caller hung up each time the ansafone kicked in, which was 3 times.Luckily my ansafone was in action and on speaker.

Obviously I shall now take legal advice because it is a very dangerousand stupid mistake or prank.

  6. Everytime  Mostly Very Often, When I do get to speak to or see someone from the NHS, I notice that some practices are not the laid down routines that are recommended. One example is, the time taken to transfer blood from your finger to the INR strip is void after 15 seconds and has to be re-taken. This week the time showing on the Roche machine was set  to a time of 130 seconds. When I questioned that, I was told that it was a new machine and it was correctly set up.

Now the next time you have a spare drop of blood, put it on a piece plastic and stand a match in it and wait for 15 seconds before releasing it and it will stand on its own. If you cut the tip of your finger off, the same thing will happen, the blood coagulates outside of the body and becomes black pudding.

If you place a piece of blackpudding on an INR strip it will reveal that it is certainly possible that you have had a stroke. It also proves that you do not know how to use an INR machine.

It was not the the Bressay nurse who said that it was set up correctly.

Next, to a Doctor, who would not listen to my symptoms. I had expected this to happen and had prepared a download from NICE highlighting diagnosis of certain mental problems.

As I put it down, I said that I was expecting this, now  I did say this in a frustated way.

I also questioned the lack of use of the, "Scientific Method of Diagnosis"

"The scientific method is a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge.

Which is a posh way of saying,

"Read the bloody notes and question the patient."

Then came, from the doctor, a tirade of," Science and medicine being very different things"

This was followed by a calmer way of speech from the doctor.

"I am only a locum and it may be better if you see a doctor who knows your history."

Did I speak in a pompous way.

    Maybe!

    But,

Criticism is the backbone of the Scientific Method

  7. Ghost, I suffer from  permanent atrial fibrillation and take warfarin to thin my blood, hopefully to prevent strokes.

I started this post originally to help people that are in the same position of inadequate care for their problems and are frustrated.

I have had emails from various persons, not only in Shetland but, in Britain that are going through similar problems and 2 from Germany and 1 from France

I thought that I had made it clear that the only way I could highlight problems was by logging my experiences, to what end I don't know.

One last incident though I have been trying to contact someone in the NHS for five days, I have left message, I tried the phone three times this morning. No replies.

I then tried using my new mobile phone and got straight through they told me to contact the district nurse, which I have been trying to do. They didn't give me her mobile number which negated the advice to contact her and said that they would pass the message on!

    Coincident?

I will try to delete this post tomorrow.

  8. I think that I have been going about things the wrong way.

The things that are happening to me are also happening to other people.

I grew up during the war, my childhood was playing in the sooty Sheffield Streets, where the occasional vehicle would stop until we had cleared away our goal post jackets. The drivers didn't scream at us for being in the way, they joked with us. We would have food parcels sent to us from America and other places, if for some reason anyone didn't get one they were helped out by the neighbours. It was made sure that no-one went without. The poorest people were the best at sharing.

In my street we had refugees from Russia, Poland, Italy etc. An old russian lady who lived on her own used to wait for somone to pass and would indicate that she needed a needle threaded, she had the needle and thread with her. I wonder who she was and what was she sewing?                                                                                                                                                                       We had municipal restaurants where we could eat a three course meal for pennies

We had doctors that would open a surgery up to 10 o-clock at night.

There were hospitals that were clean and had crisp uniformed nurses who used to smile and filled you with confidence and would sit and hold your hand.

We, by the hundreds, would be evacuated in our beds , by the dedicated nurses, to the cellars almost nightly, when the air raid sirens sounded. This was organised by an even crisper matron, who knew everything. Even doctors had to defer to her.

Now, 70 years later. What  improvements we have made! Same words different ending What  improvements have we made?

Now, we have greed, inefficiency and the ripping of food out of the neighbours hand, the poverty of children and the closing of the mouth and ears to wrongs that are happening in plain sight and hearing of us.

The, "We can't draw attention to ourselves otherwise we may end up inthe same situation" attitudes.

We have politicians that cheat and steal using the laws that they have made with accidental loopholes. They then mention the holes to close friends so that they can also benefit. We chop benefits from the needy. We have politicians that beg for money.

Recently a politician who will remain nameless asked if I had any questions. My question was,"What will you do about the corruption in our politics" they answered," I'm only one person."

We give money to other nations and we have hungry kids. We don't give money to other nations and we have hungry kids.there and still have starving kids here

Yes we do have nice people

Do we have a comparable and efficient Nhs?

When will we stop killing people to prove that our god is better

We must also keep on blaming the aged, after all they had a good and prosperous trouble free life

I did help the invalided lady today.

  9. Thanks folks,Rex. as I said it's shopping bus today.

I will carry on helping the folks that need my help even though by so doing it must mean that I do not need help myself

I do know who the problem is, so do most of the staff .

Incidentally I have left messages for the  Chief Nurse (Community) but to no avail.

Tomorrow a nurse will come and see me to talk over what I must do. I will not hold my breath.

Still no reply from my last INR check.

    Shower time.

I am smiling but I am the only person that knows it

  10. I have now also found that my anti depressant can also give similar  problems as above.

So I contacted one of the doctors and suggested that I stop taking  this pill. She did not exactly sanction it but told me to be careful. Then  came the problem, on contacting the community nurses office,to tell them that I had not had an INR check for a while I was,  over the 'phone verbally abused and told that I was,"perfectly able to to go to the health centre for oneand that I went to Lerwick every day any how  ," This was a lie and in any case irrelevant. More abuse came over the the 'phone! There were other people in the office because one person, seemingly authoritarian, said, "You can't speak to him that way,"

I put the 'phone down, I needed to calm down!

A few seconds later I 'phoned again and before I said much, I was told that the nurse who lives in Bressay and another nurse were coming to do my INR.

Needless to say I was baffled. Why the abuse before?

It was low 1.5. I was asked what normally happened, so I told them that they usually let me know what dosages I was to take. later in the day.

I have to date, not heard a word but I do know how to  adjust my dosage so I hopefully have done it correctly.

I do go to to Lerwick on the shopping 'bus once a week and I do help the people to get on and off the, bus and help people who are less fortunate than I am when they need me to.

My preparations for the 'bus are a shower, standing on one leg and  using my right arm because my left one is not fully functional.

I pull on my trousers and then take them off again because I forgot that  I have to put on my full left leg support.

I go outside to get on the bus, after I press myself against the wall to straighten up and fit my best smile on.

After returning to Bressay I help someone to get their messages into her house. As a reward her cat jumps on the table and allows me to rub her belly. I then go home and take in my messages. Younger people at this stage do offer to help me if I am overloaded and I am grateful for this.

I take of my leg support, get the peas from the freezer and put them on my knee. I eat my fish and chips and watch "Countdown"

Later I wake up on a wet duvet, (from the peas, I hope) and at times my face in an empty plate.

Tomorrow is 'bus day I will be seen in Tescos and the Co-op with a flag in my hat to make it easier for the NHS Sicherheitsdienst to find me.

My memory is not so good now but I am 18 this year, that can't be right but, I do know it has an eight and a one in the age.

I have disabilities but I am not disabled.

Since stopping the pills my manner has lightened, my speech is not garbled and I feel relieved.

Just read that last sentence out loud. It's not garbled is it?

    Also sprach zarathustra und Rex.

  11. Hello again,

    See, I'm not dead yet!

The update is, it has been found that I have an enlarged prostate gland. I can't remember if it was 3 - 4 years or more when I first complained about pains in that area.

At the end of last year, the 22nd December,  I was rushed to hospital in Aberdeen because my left eye had a detached retina.

Early this year I finally managed to convince someone that I had been acting, speaking and not recognising words at times and other weird things were happening..

I did some voluntary work many years ago, in London and one of my charges was a lady with Huntington's disease. Now I did not believe that I was suffering from this disease. The terrible thing about this terrible disease is that the, "victim" knows that they are  deteriorating.

I also knew that my brain was not in order.

After an MRI scan it was discovered that I have Mild Cognitive Impairment, Deep White Matter Ischemia. if you wish here is a site worth visiting

    http://spinwarp.ucsd.edu/NeuroWeb/Text/br-840.htm

A lot of the problems that I have listed on this post, point to a diagnosis.

Why didn't anyone diagnose this earlier ?.

Remember when I gave a list of symptoms to a Doctor, she asked could I just pick one of them.

However, funnily enough I was happy that I at last had a diagnosis.

Now I do not have the frustration of questioning I am I just imagining it.

So self diagnosing beats years of training to hand out antibiotics, cremes and other medications.

No I am not blaming or putting all people under the same cloak.

    Rex

    .

  12. Consultations are only a way of getting someone to agree with you, then they are paid for it, right or wrong.

How to reduce consultations is very easy!

Start using the word, Decisions, they must be the correct ones though.

  13. I did speak to the police about the threat but, not here in Shetland.

I have not reported it officially, for reasons that will come clear.

I have no fear of these people.

But. I have a sense of humour.

The miscreants know, who posted this thread because my name is not hidden. They will know who I mean and so will others.

It would amuse me if they replied to it.

I do have recording equipment, due to my interest in music but some of it is too small to be practical for music.

  14. Quote,

(Ah, I see you've been introduced to the finer points of the SIC's standard procedure for "intelligence gathering". The old "neighbours say he......", and "according to my source in xxxxxxx....." lines, accompanied by things such as, "SIC "employee" Mrs xxxxxx, reported his curtains were.....or, "when asked SIC "employee" Mr xxxxxx, reported he saw/never saw Mr......". IMHO neither Gestapo nor Stasi ever had a patch on the depths the SIC, and in particular Housing will plumb to snoop on people.) “ Unquote.

We have a a person in this area who already fills one of these roles he/she will talk to a person and bring up a theme he/she then goes around saying, “ I was talking to Rex earlier and he says,”---- followed by some made up story or half truth.

He/she uses this ploy a lot against many folk..

He/she even uses the, “Will you help me with this or that,” to get you away if he/she knows someone from an authority is coming to the area.

How does he/she know these persons are coming?

Another game is playing persons against each, he/she then says to his cronies, “Watch me wind this person up.”

I have spoken to him/her twice on these very subjects but he/she is unable to change.

One of his/her, cronies has even threatened to shoot my dog and me.

Most Bressay folk will know who I am talking about.

    He/she will certainly know too.

More to come, no lies will be told by me.

I will still help him/her if he/she needs it.

I hope that didn't mix up any she/hes'

  15. This post was started 08 January 2014

    Ghost.posted,

(“Well, its been nearly a year, did Rex hopefully get things finally sorted out with our "beloved" NHS, or is he still lost somewhere within an endless medical game of pass the buck.”)

I am now returning to this post, for a while anyhow.

I saw a doctor last week this was the second visit in a month and and was told that he/she was happy with my condition.*

    I am not!

Today I had a sandwich at 1630 hrs and 5 minutes later fell asleep. This happens after eating anything, even a chocolate bar.

The problem is I had put some veg on the hob and it had burned, which is to be expected after a nap of 2 hours. This is now the fifth pan I have burned in a few months.

Mentally, I also seem to have some problems at times.

I, at times, cannot recognise spoken words, then suddenly I realise that they are speaking english.

I have told the doctors this but, (“ was told that he/she was happy with my condition.”)*

    Am I going mad?

    Have I gone mad?

    Or is age my problem?

I have only one hand and arm that works, an injured knee, the side of my face is numb.

    My brain occassionaly doesn't work

I do at times feel teary.

I do at times feel humorous and laugh at myself!

I suggest that the NHS could cure me by waiting until the snow and ice are here, stripping me and putting me in top of the Ward / Uard.

At least it would ensure that I would die with a hand on! I could have misspelt a word in that sentence.

  16. "Medical staff call for judicial review of NHS Grampian."

What on earth has this to do with this post?

Read the part on whistle blowers, it seems that gagging is endemic in a few of our official offices and officials, too.

Even the workers are getting cagey, now if I ask even simple questions about the job being done here, they are wary.

I stated earlier in this post that, certain persons had been told not to talk to any reporters about the job being done in my, and other persons homes.

Now if no wrong is being done gagging is unecessary, in fact it is counter productive and deletes IQ points from the gaggees.

Before the, " Deutsche Wiedervereinigung," I had to do some work in Dresden and the Stasi used to listen to make sure that people didn't say anything against the state.

Nowadays the gagees are in jail and rightly so.

How long should we allow this to happen in our council offices.

We even have a resident who gets favours if they report things that I say or do.

You may see this happen very soon and I will give the name.

No I am not going mad but I am angry.

Please add IQ points for speaking german.

  17. Stage ! of the change is finished in my place and I can now put some of my equipment away.

The next stage is to build in the tank in the loft and connect the plumbing but, first of all the other flats have to have stage one completed.

I am going to praise the workers, they are clean and tidy, quick and efficient. they do a days work. They are of course contract workers.

Ghost, I am not sure when the suits ceased to be our employees. They are still paid by us!

I am now, I believe, being punished for sticking to my guns, more on the gun story later. I received a visit from a a housing officer and an outreach person about some of my stuff being in the corridor. I then had a 'phone call from a senior of the housing department. I told him what my problem was and I told him that the afore mentioned had spoken to and had promised me some help. He didn't know that they had been or that they.had offered help. Even worse they had gone on leave.

I then had a very polite  letter from the "Development Services Department." their very important bold script.Telling me about some of my stuff being in the corridor. This is getting quite repetetive, don't you think?

Well I and the rest of the tenants are important too!

Important enough to warrant a larger font and an underline!

    .I found that funny

  18. Well the various fans are being splattered now.

I have also heard from a reliable and surprising source that certain staff have been told not to talk to any reporters.

I know that there are others out there that have been treated with disregard.

If you wish you can send me a PM, it will remain secret. Any abuses, send them also, they will not be secret.

I have also received a letter from New Council Information Service that I have household stuff in my corridor and doorway, but I knew that. I had put it there.

    Regards,

    Rex

  19. I am beginning to think that some of these posts are spoof.

If a doctor sends a patient for an x-ray or what he thinks is an emergency and a nurse/ triage over rules him then why have doctors surgeries.

    Meanings of words,

Accident -  an unforeseen and unwanted injury, not reliant on a specific day.

Emergency -  an accident that has occurred, which if not treated can become worse further putting the injured person, who has or should have become a patient, at further risk. This is also not day or date reliant.

Broken or suspected break - A non definate state, a slightly broken rib is possible but so is a broken edged bone which when it is pressed to check for injury stabs through the lung.

As for Shetland not being able to provide adequate hospital cover for it's residents of 22.000 persons.

Vestmannaeyjer in Island has a population of 4,000, has a hospital, retirement home and apartments for the elderly, several nursery schools, two elementary schools and one secondary school.

The hospital is open 365 and a quarter days a year.

  20. "a small break in a foot really is not life threatening but very painful as you would expect."

How would you know that it was a small break ?

However it is not all doom and gloom, here is a titbit of good medical practice.

Last saturday I had to deal with an emergency, a mouth wound that would not stop bleedimg. I 'phoned emergency and was given an appointment within 10 minutes.

So off I went to Scalloway and the 'Vet was waiting for Jock, when I arrived.

20 minutes later Jock and I were on our way home.

  21. Yes, this is the case.I had an operation last year amd was in a lot of pain, it was a friday evening.

I demanded to see a doctor after a few nurses, had fobbed me off after offering me various pills.

Eventually a,"junior doctor,", her words not mine, told me that there was no-one she could call at the weekend.

I will admit that I was having difficulty recovering from my knock out jab.

There was of course witnesses too all of the conversations.

Three weeks ago I was called in to the health centre for a follow up check on????

I didn't know why and nor did the doctor.

So I was asked about my medical history.

After a while the doctor said, "You have given me a lot of things, now could you tell me what the worst thing is

and we can deal with that? I told the Doctor that these things were all written in the records on the desk!!

Perhaps the lady who was not allowed to nave a broken leg/ankle, chose to have an injury on the wrong day.

Are these examples of what the "Health Lottery", is?

Maybe GBH is a more sinister acronym!
