I have just watched Mary's Meals 'Child 31' film telling the story of Mary's Meals. I am hoping to have a showing of this film somewhere throughout Shetland for anyone interested to see. Hopefully followed by some music and fundraising. There was one quote on the film I'd like to share.. "Most of us go through life wondering if we could help but not really feeling that we can help. If you get involved with something like Mary's Meals, you immediately help." All of the funds we can raise goes directly to Mary's Meals, as little as £10.70 can feed a child with Mary's Meals for a year. £10.70, for a whole year. The Just Giving page set up for Shetland Mary's Meals is is at almost £200, thats 18 children been fed for a year! Thank you so much to everyone who donated We are also collecting loose change around the isles to add into the collection. That is adding up to and will be added to the Just Giving page soon. There is progress with the Back Pack Project in Shetland as well. Backpacks are being donated and there are already schools wanting to be involved, this really is amazing progress! Lets see how many Shetland can send to Mary's Meals! JBT have very kindly agreed to ship all the back packs for us as a charitable donation which is very kind and helps in so many ways. There are currently two business's that are drop off points, The Stage Door on Commercial street along with Robinson and Morrison in Weisdale, Big thanks to them! I can also put you in touch with a collector in your area if you are unable to make it to any of these places, just give me a shout. Thanks again to anyone getting involved, Terresa - Community Ambassador for Mary’s Meals terresaleask@yahoo.co.uk 07796886622 http://www.justgiving.com/shetlandmarysmeals -

Thank you for the link shetlandpeat ) at a quick glance they seem to do an outstanding amount of work! I'll have to get in touch. Malawi is just one of 16 places Mary's Meals program works in, they currently feed 510,000 + children there alone. Thanks again. -
Hi there, I hope you can spare a moment of your time to have a little read about the Scottish Charity Mary’s Meals that I have recently become a Community Ambassador for in Shetland. The Scottish Charity Mary's Meals is a global movement that sets up schools feeding projects in some of the world's poorest communities, where hunger and poverty stop children from gaining an education. They provide one daily meal in a place of education to attract poorer children into a classroom and gain an education, along with being given a meal. Their education can, in the future be their ladder out of poverty. Mary's Meals started by feeding 200 children in Malawi and now feed over 700,000 hungry children everyday across 16 different countries in the world, the closest to Shetland being Bosnia, Ukraine and Romania.
It costs an average of £10.70 to feed a child with Mary’s Meals for an entire year. The Charity has many different ways for every day people to help. I have become a part of Mary’s Meals in the hope that along with other Shetlanders, we can get as many groups, schools, churches, organizations and people involved in raising as much as we can, even if its only £10.70 that can feed one child for an entire year or a simple pencil case for them to take to school. I believe, with your help, Shetland may be able to build a kitchen in a school providing Mary's Meals, or even sponsor a school for a whole year. Have a look at Mary’s Meals website to get all the information on their vision. http://www.marysmeals.org.uk/about/our-vision/ We are starting with one project they run called the backpack project. The backpack project is a simple way of helping by providing the required items for backpacks (second hand for some items is suitable), there is a set list of items, most of which are bare essentials to have in a backpack for school, like a pencil and jotter, there are also items like a ball and a spoon.
If you cannot provide all the items or the backpack, we can accept the items you have and add them into our donation (for example if you cannot source a backpack we can still accept the contents). Have a read here to see more info on the backpack project: http://www.marysmeals.org.uk/what-you-can-do/backpack-project/ If you would like to get involved with Mary’s Meals in Shetland please get in touch. As I have said, we are currently collecting items for the Backpack project. Backpacks can be dropped of at “The Stage Door†on Commercial Street or get in touch with me to find the nearest collector in your area. Email terresaleask@yahoo.co.uk or call 07796886622. If you would like to donate, remember it goes directly to Mary’s Meals and as little as £10.70 will feed a child for a year. You can donate here on our Just Giving page: http://www.justgiving.com/shetlandmarysmeals/eurl.axd/e9ed4c728edd794b83df50b987da789e So please dig deep and remember, “Mary’s Meals helps the weak become strong.†Thank you for your time. Home from weisdale a short while ago, roads in weisdale and whiteness we not good and cars are getting stuck going up wormadale brae. The gritters came and cleared slush and cars managed to get through with a bit of a run up. (Thanks to the gritters ) Main roads were far better as side roads. If your heading wast, I'd head soon before more snow -

I fully agree that the CG should be informed when any member of the public are setting off sky lantrens, it is a huge waste of time and money if they are called out. What I don't agree with is "suuusssiiieee" calling people "morons" for setting them off, thats just pure rude. No need!
-
I will re-write my last comment as I think you have miss read it... ''No need for that!!! What about the folk that do phone the coast guard? (when setting off sky lantrens)Are they ‘Morons' too? ‘Morons’ for doing a peaceful quiet act that doesn’t hurt anybody or anything?''
