  1. So once again Jordan I ask you to address this:

Mainstream news in Europe: Nano-thermite used on 9/11 to bring down World Trade Towers

Not to wander off topic and divert with this:

Has anyone read David Aaronovitch's recent book 'Voodo Histories'? He gives a convincing account as to why the 9/11, and many other conspiracy theories are a load of rubbish. I'd recommend it.

I shall however only expect more of this:

    http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/7696/disguisedtroll.jpg

First of all - I'm not a troll.

I've watched the video and have a few points/questions to raise.

Neils Harrit is a random person from a chemistry department in a Danish Uni. Does he have any qualifications? He could be the cleaner for all we know.

The video then states 'According to a newly published scientific article.' ... which article? where published? by whom? who wrote it? who deemed it scientific? is the research peer reviewed? empirical?

The news anchor introduces Neil Harret as the author, along with eight other researchers? Again, who is Neils Harrit? Why should I listen to what he thinks? who are the other eight researchers? what was their role? what did they do? how did they come together? Who financed the research?

  2. The ultimate student meal: Introducing the doner kebab flavoured Pot Noodle

Bring together two of the most reviled food creations of Britain's culinary history and here you have it - the Kebab Pot Noodle.

Undaunted by the warnings about kebabs being high in fat and calories, the makers of the Pot Noodle have decided to harness its appeal to the student classes.

In reality, the Kebab Pot Noodle is as close to real Kebab as processed plastic processed cheese is to Camembert.

For the £1.01 plastic pot contains dried noodles, dried meat pieces and stock powder.

Accoring to the front page of today's Guardian, the doner kebab slag noodle is suitable for Vegans too, as it contains absolutely no meat.

  3. I have never felt unsafe on the street or anywhere else in Shetland, nor have I been witness to anything 'bad' that I have not been aware of anywhere else in the UK or abroad. I think folk are the same wherever you go. Granted, there are a few bad pubs or areas around Lerwick, but they are easily avoided, and not everyone is going to be horrible anyways.

  4. Anybody know whats going on with Mareel now? Shetland Arts said the builders would be in by now. Any truth that there's still several million pounds to find?

Shetland Arts said that the earliest builders may be on site is August. As far as I'm aware tenders are being invited now or soon. There is still a grant of around £900k+ to be passed at the Council Development Committee which meets on 21/08/08.

  5. Yes,sheepshagger,I am sure.

Both Liverpool and Glasgow suffer from the collapse of the manufacturing industries, and the problems that then devlop there.

What excuse do you need to pump money into a run down area? Thankfully shetland doesn't yet share in the problems associated with this, but this is the first generation of kids on the Island faced with the menace of cheap heroin being easily available, and unless some thing is done to stop this, then housebreaking and signing on are going to be a regular feature here,as these kids give up on education and start focusing on ways to keep their habits going into a pathetic adulthood.

One studio I know has an excellent system where people on the dole are sent there to train in various aspects of the music biz so they can turn their lives around and improve their chances of becoming employable in an increasingly competitive job marketplace. I believe it was called the new deal for musicians, and was very successful for many people. What do you mean that they can't find anything good to say about these places? Have you asked the residents of these two cities?I'm sure that if you told a Glaswegian that there was nothing good about their city you would have a rather strong response, don't you think? Mareel would be multi purpose in itself, operating on all levels of culture and cusioning Shetland from the harsh realities of change affecting everyone nowadays, and which this Island is woefully unprepared for. This I know, coz I've lived in the big bad world.Since I moved my soothmoother self here, the problems of modern Britain have been ever more apparent encroaching into Shetland life. I say-what are we going to do about it?Knock back something positive and argue some more about what to do to while keeping head in sand and wishing all the nastiness of reality would just go away. Drug gangs are running all over this island precisely because of that attitude, and I won't shut up and let that happen. I find some peoples lack of reality and vision more than distasteful, it is disgraceful. Please, if I am wrong, tell me how and why,and what you propose to do about it instead of pointing fingers at other places saying "see, other places are bad,we are not like that here".Got news for you, this place will be bad too,and soon,if big positives don't get a chance. The current system ain't working.

Brilliantly put BF. I for one agree with everything you say. I could also fill this board with examples of brilliance in respect of culture in Glasgow, but this is not the place.
