  1. From what I can recall 6 Dyson fans were purchased from a reputable local retailer at a reduced price with 1 given gratis, I'm sure they cost far more than a fan easily sourced at £15. They were not donated and there was a cost involved so an unnessary overspend. Obviously good business as this possibly lead to the sale of the tv's a further overspend. The issue isn't an inconsistent policy, more to do with the amount of room on the air ambulance. If the weather is bad then the plane will carry more fuel, which means there isn't the ability to carry the extra weight of a person. Also, there may be a clinical reason for not carrying anybody who isn't a patient or medical staff, for instance if another patient is being carried at the same time. Every effort is made to carry fathers where possible, but sometimes it can't work out for the reasons above. Just to clarify I wasn't suggesting an inconstancy with travelling on the air ambulance. The inconsistency I'm trying to point out is the travel costs, it seems if the air ambulance is arranged then the return journey is not covered for the partner. If its arranged for a scheduled flight and pre planned then it would appear that the partners cost are covered for both journeys.
  2. There is a folder in the living room of the island accomodation which has loads of helpful information in it. I found it handy when I stayed there the end of march.
  3. I'm sorry Paulb but if the NHS had adequate provisions so this mother could give birth in Shetland then there would be no need to travel to Aberdeen. It's not this couples fault they have to travel south so it's my belief that the NHS should fund this travel and accomodation. I was caught in a situation this year with the birth of my child as myself and my partner had to travel to Aberdeen at very short notice via air ambulance. Luckily there was space in the island accomodation at the maternity hospital but I had to pay my own travel back. Luckily I'm in a position to be able to afford flights but what if I wasn't, at the same time I pay my taxes for a reason and I would have expected my travel home to be covered. There was absolutely no way my partner would have been able to manage with my child in the airport after so recently giving birth so I was acting as an escort, I beleave they pay travel if they class you as an escort. If the money spenders at the hospital didn't spend a fortune on flat screen tv's and fancy dyson fans then maybe they would have more funds to help fathers with travel. Also the beds and all the rooms at the Gilbertbain seem to be of a very high spec compared to the Aberdeen Royal infirmary. It's clear to me where some money is being wasted. Also I have learned there is some inconsistency with this as I know fathers in the same situation as me who had there travel completely covered. Now if you go on a scheduled flight it seems the flights are normally covered, if you go on air ambulance then they are not for the partner. The issue is complete inconsistency in policy. I would like to add though this is an issue with policy and in no way reflects on the excellent work the staff working for NHS do every day.
  4. Some pretty skilled staff at Shetland Jewllery, they'll do a good job.
  5. I would recommend Samsung for aftercare, they will actually arrange for the TV to be collected from your home address for repair.

  7. Hi 4533. I noticed your leaflets from the last club night you had at Baroc. The only thing was that they were strewn the full length of commercial street. Maybe take some responsibilty and pick them up next time if the drunk people you are handing them to are discarding of them anywhere other than a bin.... Also on another note if you are selling tickets on the street you might want to get a street-trading license to keep yourself right.
  8. Was someone up all night editing Mareel's Facebook page deleting all the negative comments? Had a quick look when I got in last night, plenty about the time it took to get a drink at the bar and the stewards. All gone when I was up at 7 this morning. Surely they would like to take on board the negative aswell as the positive, it is the opinion of its customers it is censoring afterall which isn't a good idea. Folk aren't stupid we know it isn't a smoothly run operation!
  9. As of 3pm today that was the information available via the poorly designed website. It now has all been cleared up with a lengthy Facebook explanation.
  10. Went to flames for a takeaway on Sunday after previous success with their burger and chips. Decided on a curry, it was again pretty decent and resonably priced. Nice change from my usual Raba or Gurka curries and definately worth a repeat visit. Anyone got any thoughts on the best curry you can get in Shetland, I would have said a chicken Madras from Raba with mushroom rice and a peshwari nan.
  11. It's really good to see such a diverse range of films on offer at Mareel between the 26th October and the 1st November. There is a choice of Skyfall, Skyfall or more Skyfall.... I'm sure all gold card customers will be delighted.
  12. Went to the Mareel Cafe/Bar today for my lunch at 12:20, Soup wasn't ready and no sandwiches. There was at least 6 staff so I was confused by the lack of soup readiness and went straight back out. Went to Flames instead and had a burger and chips, it was pretty decent!
  13. It doesn't matter if you buy a hdmi cable for £5 or £100, the result on the screen will be the same with no noticeable difference. hdmi sends a digital signal and not analogue so wont degrade when sent through the cable. That said I have bought a cheap cable in the past and the end came off when I had to pull it out the tv. There are different versions, I believe 1.3/1.4 is advisable for 3D. People selling the cables may tell you different!
  14. Emily Tait was pretty good when I had a similar injury.
  15. First thing can you change supplier with your current meter as some types are not supported by suppliers other than you host supplier. There are lots of meter types which fall into this category in Shetland. If you have anything other than a single rate or economy 7 meter it is unlikely you will be able to change without your meter being changed to one of these first. Be cautious when looking into switching supplier. Make sure you make your own calculation based on your last 12 months energy consumption in Kwh. Try to avoid using comparison websites as i have found there calculations not to be all that accurate and also try and avoid the call centres. Your better to get the rates from suppliers websites.
  16. Noticed them when i left the clickimin at around 21:30 over Staney Hill, Thought it was just lights reflecting off clouds at first. Went back out at 22:00 and they were nolonger visible.

  18. With O2 there are apparently only 3 mast locations in Shetland with 1 being 3G enabled located in Lerwick. I was having problems with my signal on my Iphone in Lerwick during certain times of the day which was caused by conjestion on the 3G network. This is basically caused by to many phones in the area using the cell. With more people getting smart phones the problem will probably get worse as these tend to prefer 3G networks. I know on the Iphone this is an easy fix until they upgrade the masts, you just need to turn the 3G off. Try it and your pretty much guarenteed to get a few more bars of signal.
  19. Another appeal in The Shetland Times today for witnesses's to come forward and contact the police with regards to this incident. I hope the people who have posted here who witnessed the events of that night have been in conact with the police. It takes a pretty sick/violent individual to do in a man on crutches!
  20. Did moderators not prevent the sale of Mumford and Sons tickets via Shetlink classifieds at anything higher than face value, is this situation any different?
  21. Topic! Does owlsaway require a mortgage?
  22. Nice smell for the tourists coming off the cruise ship, you can imagine what they think of it. 'Yeah Lerwick was nice but it smells like rotten fish'!
  23. Virgin mobile works off the T-Mobile network which from experience is pretty poor. T-Mobile and orange have joined forces now so share the same transmitters but that doesnt really make a difference because their signal is terrible aswell. O2 or Vodafone are the way forward.
  24. I'm starting to wonder if the individuals who seem so interested in what make and model Scooper purchased work for a competitor, otherwise why would they be so interested!
  25. As usual on Shetlink a post decends into a Shetland dialect competition, It's off subject and i'm sure confusing for the individual who originally started the thread. If you asked where a bod or a boad is then i'm sure anyone in Shetland would know what your talking about and be able to point you in the right direction.
