  1. Well just been with my family to The Grand Hotel Carvery and have to say it was disappointing to say the least. Staff were lovely but the food was a let down. Good selection of meats but food was cold when we sat to table, plates weren't warm enough for a carvery serving. The cheescake was disgusting seemed synthetic, didnt taste of either cream cheese or bailys, served with what I presume to be squirty cream. Coffee - instant, enough said. And the dining room was cold despite them turning up the plug in raditor beside us up high. Could have been a lovely lunch, lovely building and attentive staff, potential is there, but sadly we really begrudged paying over the money at the end, went there with Dad who is up on hols but dont think any of us would go back again
  2. sarahp1993 - I think you will find you have used racist terminology You have collectively referred to them as thieving gypsies, that is referring to the group as a whole, of which there are thousands in the UK and Ireland. The families that are here will not refer to themselves as gypsy, as they are travellers. Big difference. You may have had a bad experience with members of this community but it does not mean you tar a whole ethnic race with an insulting name. I have had dealings with travellers my whole life mostly positive, I have also had a small number of negative experiences with travellers, but I have also had negative experiences with Shetlanders, Glaswegians, Dubliners, Irish, English, Scottish, Europeans, World citizens...it happens, negative individuals are all over. Maybe a little bit of research before making sweeping statements would go in your favour next time
  3. I'll be here 9 years in September and love it. Moved from NW Ireland, settled in became part of the community, respected people and the differences, and its my home now. Get involved with local halls and community events. With a baby on the way there are lots of fantastic baby and toddler groups around which are great opportunity to meet folk. Some things can be a struggle but you learn to get on with it. As pointed out before housing can be a problem, especially at the minute. Good luck with it all. Shetlink used to be a great place friendly and full useful information, unfortunately its now a breeding ground for negativity and begrudgers and many good folk avoid it now. Dont take your responses to this thread as true representation of all the folk up here

  9. Cinema is just one part of Mareel albeit the most commonly used part. There is also the auditorium and recording studio, education rooms and all the lighting, sound, computing and technical equipment that goes with it. Looking forward to experiencing the live music side of things tonight at the blues festival performaces.
