Many of Shetlands contemporary and traditional textile designers feel that they learned a lot from their primary school knitting experience and have no doubt that it influenced their textile career. We have a rich textile heritage that is world renowned but we also have a exciting future in textiles that should be supported.
  2. Just to let you know that due to recent adverse weather conditions, we have made a number of changes to our Mirrie Dancers illuminations and parties. We have re-arranged the order of our illuminations and we have postponed all the opening parties this week. The new illuminations which begin this week and run to 1st February are:Reawick Congregational Church, West MainlandFormer Listening Station, Garths Ness, Dunrossness, South MainlandNew dates for parties to celebrate these illuminationsFriday 29th January, Betty Mouat's Böd, 7 - 9 pmSaturday 30th January, Skeld Hall, 7 - 9 pm Please pass this information on to your family, friends and colleagues and we apologise for any inconvenience.   4. The clothes of the Gunnister Man, were found by two Shetlanders in a peat bog in Northmavine, in 1951. It is still an unsolved mystery, what happened to him? Was he a Shetlander, or a visitor? Was he murdered? Where is his body? Was he even a man? I am interested to hear what people think really happened! Come along to Light Labs with artists Nayan Kulkarni and Roxane Permar to create dynamic, colour ‘light scores’, that will become part of a festival of light in ten places throughout Shetland this winter. Later they will form exterior illuminations for Mareel – Shetland Arts’ new cinema, music and education venue.   7. Just a peerie note to say thank you to everyone who has participated in our Mirrie adventures over the past 8 days. We have travelled all over Shetland and now have some super possible sights for illumination. A Mirrie Dancers Facebook page is on its way with information about the project and how to get involved.   8. The minibus tours are booking up fast!!! Mirrie Dancers, is a wonderful ,Shetland Arts public art project for everyone, help us light up our dark winter.
