I agree with you totally & if you want to see how an old abandoned croft house looks after years of being neglected then head for Houss in Burra. The old small croft house at the end has been empty for years and for the last 4 years it has been getting a fantastic makeover. If anyone has a wish to see this property then head over to Burra. The folk who are doing the house up only seem to work at the weekends. It really is a peerie jem o a hoose in Houss.

I wish the museum all the success of the old place. I just hope a small tea/coffee corner can be added & I personally would like to see the Peerie Treats have items on sale if possible. What happened to Peerie Treats? is it still a buisness?

I really want to see Ander Hill lookout tower on website. This tower may not be an attractive buidling but it has stood at the top of Ander Hill for 100 years. It is the only one of its kind in Shetland and since it was built during WW1 it is a piece of history. The tower on Vaila has been turned into a private living space and is just wonderfull. A future use for the Ander Hill tower? Simply make it into camping bod or add it to the list of places to visit ie Saxa Vord, Vementry etc.

The meetings are held monthly in the Town Hall Chamber and the general public are entitled to be present.

The Lerwick Community Council minutes are available every month in Shetland Library. Copies can also be obtained from the community council clerk. The minutes go back as far as 2005. If you would like to see the minutes somewhere else or an extra copy would you except say Viking Bus Station or perhaps another place? The clerk or chairman of the CC can again be contacted about this.

I really hope all the Councillors will DO THERE job and support the Scalloway and beyond folk whas bairns go to this school. However I am not happy at all with Bill Mansons ever droll attitude. Mr Manson seems to think he is running the show or is it the fact he likes causing trouble? I have been at a few public meetings and again certainly not convinced that Mr Manson has anything worthwhile to add. If there is one bad egg in the box who cannot be fresh with good comments then I wish to suggest that the bad egg remove himself from the SIC and let someone who cares for their community have that seat. I am not here to bash Mr Manson with a personal vandetta but I hope other folk realise that his attitude is mostly droll and unhelpful. The bairns simply cannot all go to Lerwick so why not look at sending toon bairns to Scalloway, Sandwick to ease overcrowding at AHS?

LCC is pretty much active and has a varied bunch of individuals who look after public affairs raised each month. The minutes of each meeting are available to read at the local library and Community Council Office at Stouts Court.

I wis up at Sumburgh Head a week ago and the tammie nories were joost aawhere. I lost count after 105 but I would say dae wir 200 or mare at present. The pics I took fae me phone were fine and clear o da twa courtin but dae wir joost a cute couple.

Clickiminn is my choice as far a location is concerned. The sooner the SIC realise that simple problems like road issues are a big hurdle the better. I mean just look at the shambles with Breiwick/Knab Road eenoo. Only three wks of roadworks is the cause and a school hisna even started to be built. Come on Council you can easily see today that the area is never going to get better as far as access goes. A public protest with all folk against Knab site maybe the way forward and if parents can strike for peerie school closures ootside Toon Hall then surely a legal peacefull protest can be planned. The sooner the better. I'm not saying I will be the organiser but its a step worth taking.

Like everyone else my thoughts go to family & friends of crew lost & crew themselves. I was quite shocked to learn about the 45 crew that died of Sumburgh back in 1986. I was 6 at the time and I can't recall ever hearing the subject mentioned by parents of even at school.

I know its a modern looking building but it is a concern due to size for people living at Browns Road they may lose a pretty good view of North harbour. I think more windows need to be added and to be honest the design is just awful for the chosen location. Sorry but I'm not convinced yet.

Long may he continue his buisness through the Isles. I would like to see him set up a smaller country store as I believe he should have done instead of selling at the Black Hill site. Where he could go? Scalloway, Brae, Tingwall?

I was away in Edinburgh for a week a two weeks ago and managed a day to Glasgow. I saw the Dr Who Exhibition and it was very good. Its on for a while yet so you should go down and see the many many cool monsters and villains on show. I loved the Sontarans and Cybermen plus a few neat SFX situations. Book a ticket before you go thought as it will be popular in summer holidays.

Oh yeah Terrahawks dat wis brilliant. I must o been 4 when it came on TV & I do mind me granny tinkin Zelda was a horrendous looking sight. I happened to agree at the time. Zelda was one scary old witch indeed. Kids these days should get to see classics on TV instead of lying in dusty cupboards for life.

Mare auld names Lerwick sadly lost (but still remembered) were Fleet Street now North Road Albany Street now King Harald Street Leather Lane now Union Street Whisky Lane now Market Street London Road also Bullet Loan now Knab Road Lower Hillhead (top of Reform Lane) to foot of Burgh Road was High Street. High Street still exists but is regarded as a lane between St Olaf Street & King Harald Street.

In 1845 the Police Commissioners turned their attention to replacing early names with offical titles. A sub-committee was then tasked to decide the names used today. The new names that are now are fine but the character of da auld still lives on as you will see on lane signs today. Further examples Crooked Lane - Originally called Betty Mann's Closs Hangcliff Lane - Da Steep Closs Back Charlotte Street - Thatch House Lane Park Lane - Joseph Leasks Closs Queens Lane - Nort Kirk Closs Bank Lane - Swallow Lane. Yes the Docks area has been mentioned as good sites. The general idea is to see the plaques be erected by Tall Ships maybe even as early as Hamefaren next year. There is alot of positive support from various organisations ie Shetland Amenity Trust so once final plan is in place small heritage improvements will be on the cards.

I really loved the return of the Sontarans two parter. I have heard on the grapevine that a Sontaran/Judoon special is in planning but all his hush hush at the moment. Cybermen/Daleks all cool but I favour the Christmas pudding headed Sontarans. I also really enjoyed episode Blink wee da Weeping Angels. Very dramatic and spooky. the screechy music added to the drama

Some of nicest tunes I remember and still love. 1 On The Inside by Lynne Hamilton created for classic Aussie drama Prisoner Cell Block H. 2 The Equalizer 3 The Fall Guy 4 Thundercats 5 He-Man 6 She Ra 7 Blockbusters 8 Take The High Road 9 The Flying Doctors 10 Dempsey & Makepeace As you can tell I was an 80's kid and I still wish we could go back to the good old days. Everything was much better on TV, Being at Sound School, Playing in Lanes and even sweeties tasted better. Ah what can I say da 80's ruled.

St Clements Hall is a listed building with interesting history going back to the Dutch days in Lerwick. It is hoped that St Clements will become usefull as a visitor centre or even other suggestions included removing the display part of the Up Helly Aa shed so it can be easier to find at St Clements. Lerwick Community Council and Sandy Cluness has added support to see the building find a new lease of life soon and the best idea would simply be a visitor centre similar to Bressay & Fetlar. Lerwick has got a great museum but more is needed for visitors and locals to see & do. Fort Charlotte is way underused and it really could be opened up in Summer to include open dramas, farmers markets, summer teas & any other event that springs to mind. If you want to add ideas for Fort Charlotte such as events or teas etc then feel free to contact Lerwick Community Council or any offical parties ie Lerwick Old Town Development Association. They would welcome any suitable suggestions to put forward. There has also been talks to extend King Erik House to the hall and use it for more accommodation space. St Clements is a lovely old building sadly neglected but a new lease of life can't be far away.

Burra? The Cheynies are a group of three islets off Scalloway (and Burra , if you must) but I don't think you could call them "Burra" could you? As for the sound, most fok pronounce it "Shaengies", tae my kennin o it. I ken whare dey ir I wis simply geeing an idea o whare best folk wid see dem fae. be it Burra/Trondra/Scalloway its aboot da same area. I never said it belanged ta Burra. I ken my places in Shetland but for ony een ooto Shetland viewing dis forum it gees dem an idea. Information plaques for the historical Lerwick Lanes has been raised by Lerwick Community Council. The area is a local conservation zone that stretches from Leog Lane to Harbour Street. The history of Old Lerwick is vast and important and deserves more recognition such as information plaques. Similar to Edinburgh's Royal Mile the lanes will eventually feature a plaque that will give an interesting titbit including name origin, notable person, or recorded event. Local places suggested for plaques - Lodberries, Old Tollbooth, Bains Beach & Market Green. If you wish to add support or also suggest other parts of Lerwick & perhaps country areas that plaques could be erected then add ideas here on this forum.
