  1. Look like young Isobelle could be in a spot of bother. Lou looks well happy with his "find" that he was anonomously sent. I love it!
  2. Again, I ask : if the US government wanted people to believe that a plane had flown into the Pentagon, why not just fly a plane into the Pentagon. Why make things harder for themselves by using a missile ? And as for the reluctance to release the crash footage ( they did eventually ), I would suggest that this is simply because the Pentagon is steeped in a culture of secrecy : it's their job to protect classified information, not pander to the ravings of conspiracy theorists. Have you seen the footage? The only footage I've seen is of the explosion and there is no evidence of a Boeing - which is what the US goverment claim it was. In my eyes, they are covering something up - I don't know exactly what it is but I don't think anyone can argue the lack of explanation/reluctance to release 'proper' footage is a little disturbing. If they have nothing to hide, why not show it? They showed something like 2 secs of footage of the Pentagon incident. Is that when the camera's nearby switched on? Doubt it. What happened to the rest of the footage? It just seems that the US government could easily put an end to the conspiracy theories once and for all by releasing information to the public. However, for some reason, they are not forthcoming with such evidence.
  3. So you're saying I shouldn't have sent him by bank details and address?? I watched that Loose Change 9/11 last night. To be honest, ever since I watched the events happen in NYC, I was totally unconvinced that it was anything like the "official" explanation. I truly never believed that the amount of fuel could make those two giant structures topple. Far less in the manner they did. From what I saw, it looked like a planned detonation and everything I saw in that documentary did back it up. Normally I'm not into conspiracy theory but for me, 9/11 stinks of exactly that. Not only do I believe that the towers toppled ridiculously fast but also the plane that crashed into the pentagon clearly was never a plane. The US government's reluctance to release footage of this (which does clearly does exist) only backs this up. As for passengers being kept hostage, I don't believe that at all and I don't think Loose Change ever claims this. I do believe that the flights that hit were not the ones they were thought to have been though. Either way, it's a fantastic documentary - in the sense that it really gets you to think.
  4. How can you guys not fall in love with that track?! It was THE track of the summer 2 years ago. There are now loads of "numa numa" kids on the net. The first kid was an absolute legend - his videoclip was absolutely hilarious. Not much different from the star wars kid... which is always ridiculously funny and world famous
  5. The game will go either 2 ways, Arsenal will scrape a win or Barca will rip them apart. If Barcelona score early - goodnight Arsenal. Arsenal have not been behind in a Champions League match in the knockout stages. I have severe doubts as whether or not they can come out and beat a team in a one legged affair. If Barca DO take the lead, I think Arsenal will have to come out and be totally exposed - hence I think they may take a hounding. It looks like they will play Henry as a lone striker to try and nick a goal - then watch them sit on their lead. However, I cannot see Barcelona not scoring so it looks like they are going to have to score 2 if they stand a chance. I'm gonna probably look like a moron tomorrow.... but in my opinion, I bet we see Henry disappear in this game...
  6. Well, interesting points - most of which I agree with. The problem with St. Andrews and yah establishments in general is this. It's not the yahs that are the problem - it's the wannabe yahs. They are the one's who feed our prejudice. A realtively small minority of those kids are the ones born with silver spoons in their mouth. It's the upper-middle classes that want to be like them. They show blatant disregard for us "commoners" because they're trying to prove their status by having nothing to do with us - almost looking down on us. They try to make exclusive hang outs (of which I'm sure you're (teenie) aware of one such "society" in St. Andrews) to justify their status. The real yahs maybe do act differently/dress differently but that's their upbringing. However, they are more than happy to muck in with the common people and are in large part, a good laugh.
  7. Don't worry - that's what Uni is for. The 4 years you spend having fun "thinking" about what you're going to do with your life.
  8. Mario

    World Cup

I think England should take me - I'm an unknown quantity. I've played both senior A's and B's too.... go on Sven - you know it makes sense. Even if it means me putting on an England shirt... I need the holiday.
  9. Spoken like a true St. Andrews student. Been there, done that and totally agree with you on most points. However, during my time there I managed to pick up an almost Fife like accent at times. Nothing better than breaking it out in front of the yahs, they totally hate it. I have to say, if you're gonna get in a shop at the Tesco there, go late - it's almost liveable. Otherwise you're stuck in a massive queue of people, most of which are getting their Tesco's Finest in for the night's dinner party. Then head off to Ma Bells for a white russian.... Yes, certainly in my time @ St. Andrews, yahs were a problem - but I would say no more than my one hate - neds/chavs/schemies. They're gonna be a mainstay of Shetland in the very near future.. and that's really sad.
  10. "They" do not stop budget airlines flying to Shetland. The only "they" that matters when it comes to who flies in and out of Sumburgh is Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd. (HIAL) who also operate Inverness airport which has recently announced a few new low cost routes. HIAL also operates Stornoway airport which has BMI (British Midland) flying there in competition to BA. The factors that stop budget airlines flying here are the weather (budget airlines do not want to be messed around waiting for mist to lift) and perhaps even more than the weather the runway length which even with the extention will not allow a 737 to land with a full passenger load + luggage + freight. Our best hope for cheaper flights has to be for an airline with spare capacity and an aircraft that can land with a full load yet is cheaper (per seat mile) than the Saab to set up in competition to British Airways/Loganair. And that is where the first problem arises. A rival to BA would not have the worldwide ticketing and through booking system that BA has. Other than British Midland who have a similar system to BA (though smaller) any new carrier would have to survive with "local" traffic between Shetland and the Scottish mainland. Possible but not so easy otherwise someone would have stepped in to the gap left when Business Air stopped serving Shetland. You're obviously well informed on this topic. I however am , obviously, not. So it seems we're pretty much stuck with our "40%" discount. It is a step in the right direction though and I'd rather have the "40%" than a kick up the jeer. It is just such a shame it costs an arm and a leg to get off the old rock.
  11. It's like you're me - but different. Wierd that our posts are almost identical.
  12. The 40% is very misleading. I was looking on the BA.com and was noticing you can get a return to Aberdeen for around £110. Now You'd think this would be around a £44 saving - not bad indeed. However, you get 40% off the 'fare'. £40 of that is aiport tax which is not deductable. So you're left with the 40% off around £60. So I reckon that's about a £24 saving. It's good, but I think it's all very misleading. However, if you were going to book on a very last minute, because the fare would be so high - you would make a very reasonable saving as comparitively, the tax is sausage all. I still think, even with the price cut - it's still way too high. I wish they'd let one of the budget airlines fly out of here but then again that's never gonna happen. You can guarantee that nobody would fly BA and that flights would be full every weekend as the far would most likely be around £10.
  13. SPAM is the bane of my life! I hate it. The amount of crap I get in my inbox each day is shocking - even with filters. The real danger is when you get the e-mails from "Barclays", "eBay", "Citibank" etc. Now, for people who are in general afraid of computers - they will be duped by stuff like this - hence compromising their account security. Besides, I've got plenty of viagra to do me for the now anyway. I've also gained up to 12 inches!
  14. David, are you in Lerwick? I'll need to check the speed on my line today. Have to say I didn't notice anything last night.
  15. No, I'm not saying they should give up at all! There is no doubt they have faded from grace but I'm not saying because they're not "big" anymore, they should stop playing. However, I think the tag of it being an amazing achievement to get them up here is a bit rich. No offense to Davie, he's done well because the venue/location is hardly ideal for any band. I just don't think it's anything to be shouting about - personally, I would rather have a real get together of all the up & coming local bands.
  16. I'm not going (despite always moaning about a lack of things to do here) Fair play to Davie for getting them up. However, they are a has-been (maybe even a never was) band. I mind listening to them in about 96? Am I right on that one? It really would be great if we could attract a really big band. I remember the rumours of Franz (yeh right!). I just think OCS are a band that is trying to milk what is left of their career and due to lack of bands coming here - we think it's good. Remember the days of Pulp. That was amazing at the time. I think they should stick to their hits otherwise I feel they may have a disgruntled crowd.
