Arfski got a reaction from Evil Inky in Covid 19 / Coronavirus
Well, there's always one. The weight of opinion suggests that his opinion is wrong, as there is nothing scientific in that outpouring, it's all rhetoric.
I've been avoiding Covid like the plague and will continue to do so.

I don't think either of those options were seriously considered for very long by anyone with an understanding of how the virus was spreading (I assume you know that but are writing for dramatic effect). Since very early on the aim of the game was to slow the spread i.e. the 'flatten the curve' principal whilst vaccines were developed and/or herd immunity achieved.
Surely there's enough evidence of health services around the world being overwhelmed for people to understand that aiming for herd immunity through the unchecked spread of the virus would have been catastrophic.
It feels quite odd to be even writing such an obvious comment.

Arfski got a reaction from Frances144 in Shetland Broadband ?
Used them for many years, they get to places that other broadband's don't/won't reach with community wifi etc. Absolute lifesaver when they did the Fetlar links, and Ian Brown is a fascinating guy to have a technical chat with.

Arfski reacted to Evil Inky in Proposed Co-op Stores in Scalloway & Sandwick ?
Just pointing out that when it's suggested we put a customs border down the Irish Sea, and introduce a pile of red tape, you're all "woo-hoo! What's the worst that could happen?", but when it's proposed that the Co-op build a shop in Sandwick, you seem to think that's a bit too risky.

We were lied to. Frictionless trade was just one of them. No downsides, only upsides was another. There were many more.
There are no obstacles to bringing items into the UK. Trucks are just being waved through unchecked so that there is not more chaos at the ports than there already is. Some of this is temporary, but vet certificates, just one example, won’t be. The red tape isn’t going anywhere either.
I would be happier eating more fish, especially if it gets cheaper.

There seems to be a fair few upset with being out of the EU. They all seem to be saying that they were lied to. Fishermen with catches they can’t land, hauliers with trucks stuck at ports, and even before the ports, businesses with mounds of paperwork they have no idea of how to fill in. Frictionless trade, sunlit uplands, another Tory economic miracle? Aye, that will be right.

If Scotland is such a drain on England how come Westminster is so keen to keep hold of us?
Independence can't come soon enough. If we had it now our fish could be sold in Europe, because Scotland voted against leaving the EU.
"The clamour for Independence" has been going for much longer than Johnson has been in number 10. Scots don't want to be ruled by the Tories. It's as simple as that, and you can hardly blame them after the balls-up Johnson seems to be making of everything. Next step reducing workers rights - oh joy!
Oh! And no nuclear bases in Scotland sounds like result.

Scotland has a huge hole in their finances which has to be topped up by the English every year. Which is also where the money came from via the EU for all the so called benefits of membership we keep hearing about. The SNP are not keen on salmon farming , oil, gas, fracking, or fishing. except to give away our grounds to the EU. They seem to want to turn our farm land into some sort of theme park. Our heavy industries are a shadow of their former selves . The defence basses would all have to close and the holy grail of reentry into the EU will be vetoed by the Spanish because of Catalonia. Not to mention the fact that they do not need another economic basket case added to their now dwindling budget. Scotland is also the sick man of Europe and the drugs capital of well the world with all the extra social costs that comes with it. There is probably more but i feel ive made my point. And the question i have to ask myself is where is the money going to come from to pay for independence. Also the clamour for indie ref 2 is mostly being driven by a hatred of Boris johnson. But he is a here today gone tomorrow politician . And Scotland it seems to me will be struggling to balance the books long long after he has gone. Oh i forgot to mention Scotlands share of the national debt.

Arfski reacted to Ghostrider in One way van rental? Cheapest way to get stuff up!
If your budget and knowledge of vehicles and the vehicle market can cover it, buy a van south, drive it up with your load, and sell it on up here.
As a general rule, if you buy the right van at the right price, it'll sell for more up here than you paid for it south.

I was looking to do the same thing a few years ago and ended up putting it onto pallets and shipping it via United Pallet Network (UPN) / Northwards http://northwardsltd.com/pallet-network/
It worked out to be a lot cheaper. Some UPN agents will pick it up for you and others will require you to take it to a depot
