  1. Both Should islands besides Mainland, Shetland but also Lerwick and a few notable settlements be assessed separately? considering there would be a difference in the opportunities and type of life one would live on these. Some areas have lots of people not from Shetland and moving to Shetland can be expensive hence more likely be those with the financial means to do this which would tip the scale towards middle class. I am aware there is a local term for them but what would you call somebody who moved from Greenland, Lapland or somewhere further north?
  2. That is a loaded question. Shetland and those living there are on average is wealthier than most of the UK but not all parts and residents you would have to be more specific. Also the term middle class has been stretched to back and forth so much there is a separation of people being Economically working class to being culturally "working class" no matter their personal wealth or labour force participation rate. So have well off people banging on about how working class they are and people who have never had a job of any kind banging on about how working class they are. Never heard anyone who was actually low income paycheck to paycheck describe themselves as "working class" its literally anyone else but them lol
  3. Some are worried about all this cheap American food and Australia and New Zealand lamb hitting the market , Some are worried the UK cannot import enough food and food prices will rise. Can we just have a vote on this Protectionist stance or free trade stance! If there is not enough food farmers need not worry about their profit if food becomes cheaper the main concern is the farmers livelihood. A compromise will be minimum pricing where the foreign exporter isn't penalized with taxes/tariffs but MUST NOT sell for below a certain price as would also apply to domestic production. So whats it going to be?
  4. Which government does this relate to, Holyrood or Westminster? Kit Malthouse Minister for Policing(United Kingdom) So Westminster, though Holyrood is complicit!
  5. Grassing on your neighbors and pubic shaming is basically the governments official stance. Seen a fairly creative mask and costume by a customer in CoOp the other week that made me smile though he may have been satirizing the situation, Hardly anyone wears gloves yet this is a point of infection especially if they are going to insist everyone molest the same card machine buttons to pay and handle the same bottles and buttons to wash hands. Although the longer the Lockdown lasts the large the amount of people who will not care if they get it or not, Lockdown is creating the Boomerang effect and those opposed to Lockdown will likely take vindictive and passive aggressive actions towards those who start reporting their neighbors or those they perceive to be in favor of extending the lockdown for another twenty years. For and against Lockdown polarization will be far stronger than Left/Right polarization because Lockdown has a more intrusive effect on our lives.
  6. Median age by country "Covid deaths" 94% of Americans who died from COVID-19 had contributing conditions: CDC (Probably the same for the rest of the world) We have eviction ban and the furlough scheme which simply cannot be sustained forever in their current form, But the fact that we have this is one of the reasons we are not seeing the fallout from the psychological effect lockdown will have. Its not like any other recession because the lockdown can be switched back on at the drop of a hat with minimal warning and that gives the chilling effect which makes people hesitant to do things they normally would. Could famine and suicide spurred by lockdowns kill more than Covid? Here are the top 5 reasons people kill themselves according to Health.com Depression and other mental illnesses Hopelessness Feeling like a burden Stressful situations Isolation Does it not seem like Lockdown and isolation and paranoia and overzealous rollout of now edicts they just pulled from where the sun doesn't shine would exacerbate all of these? Would it not be reasonable to blame Lockdowns especially very long ones that can happen several consecutive times for causing deaths and possibly more deaths even elder abuse since people will direct anger at the situation at those they view as causing/prolonging it?

  8. The UK coal industry was heavily subsidized the Australian coal industry was not subsidized to this extent, Which one adapted and which one died when the plug was pulled? Some EU countries do not have the same animal cruelty regulations this UK farmers cannot use some cost cutting measures yet must complete with those who do. For example a farmers may not use a gestation crate to save money on pregnant pigs as this is partialy a measure intended to increase the yeild of piglets but we cannot restrict or impose tariffs on those that do as they have equal access to the market.
  9. The product and the sale thereof should be where the funding for its continued production comes from. Unless there is good reason for the government to be subsidizing something it should not be subsidized! Prior to the items being protected one could have purchased products made outside of Shetland and simply declared that the product was a Shetland product because the merchant insists it was made in the Shetland style. Counterfeiters may hypothetically say their product is "Shetland Style" but if these products are "protected" only the authentic articles can be sold as authentic Shetland wool/Knitwear. and if this is a pedigree with a good enough reputation for somebody to counterfeit should the product not stand on its own merit rather than be on lifesupport via subsidies? And if the amount of Knitters shrinks that's just more customers for whoever keeps doing it
  10. Suppose we will just wait and see if the Self-determination/Autonomy Motion goes anywhere, The matter is only entering the public discourse due to Indyref 2: Electric Boogaloo so Strike while the iron is hot, Or else it will Just fizzle out until the third Scottish Independence referendum. Japan will be trading with Britain whenever an exchange is made between Japan and Shetland thus we care about British and EU law and withdrawal from the latter. In BrexitLand You have a Large section of the UK population who would be not only be Unopposed to actions/funding to help Shetlands fishing industry but also would view this as delivery of an election promise! That seems like a worthwhile bargaining chip Hence: The enormous electoral support in Former Fishing towns. Since being registered to vote here i would get a ballot on Shetland independence and Id probably vote "yes" to the Shetland independence since i don't have any reason to oppose it. I just haven't seen proof this will go to fruition, So Strike while the iron is hot!
  11. Enormous electoral support in Former Fishing towns. And Many of the communities that have suffered De-industrialization want to see an expansion in that sector and such an expansion would be an indicator of "Taking Back Control" and giving British Jobs to British Workers. If you dont know why people dont just move to where the jobs are simply crunch the numbers for average income and savings for the demographics/age groups that aren't too settled to move
  12. Meetings limited to 6 persons may become more strictly enforced. https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-phase-3-staying-safe-and-protecting-others/pages/seeing-friends-and-family/ UK wide arbitrary 10pm shutdown proposed, Probably going to happen just like the practically guaranteed Christmas lockdown. https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/09/whole-of-uk-could-be-hit-by-10pm-curfew-in-bid-to-avoid-second-wave-13243578/ Covid secure ..(Safety Squad) Have been rolled out to enforce the rules but a real police officer has to give the fines the seal of approval for them to be enforced https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-news-social-distancing-gatherings-rules-covid-vaccine/ But if you want to gather in a large group and avoid the fines you must be part of a state endorsed/approved protest. Be sure to ask the open societies foundation for a membership card!
  13. What will happen first Leaving the European union or Ending of the Lockdown? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQB3VshqSQ8 theoretically Brexit can only be delayed a few more times although it still can be delayed albeit based on rules existing at the time of its last extension, Lockdown however has its rules created Ad Hoc and can be extended as many times as the Banks want it to be delayed. It actually looks like Brexit might be complete several years before the end of the lock down but they can still use the "because coronavirus" excuse to delay and it would be accepted without question.
  14. 2 strategies herd immunity and lockdown. One is to contain the spread while the other lets it spread and the population adjusts to it. The morons decided to do both ensuring that benefits of both strategies were cancelled out. Shut down every dentist, pub, school and barber right at the start but ignore illegal border crossing unless helping them arrive chatter flight's from crowded airport's to import possibly infected worker units(the corporate farms who had flight's chartered for them can circumnavigate minimum wage by settling wages overseas and recoup funds by changing accomodation locals wouldn't need) despite putting half the country out of work. Better still masks and testing/quarantining arrivals to the uk were things they did AFTER all that HEIL NHS
  15. Seems as though improved hygiene and modern medicine has both reduced the number of people who died within the first 2 years of their lives and given a chunk of people unnaturally long life. Funny how we are having different rules for different age brackets, Seems like everybody is being punished for rescuing the vulnerable who otherwise wouldn't have made it. if the justification for endless lockdown is to protect the elderly wonder if "we" are going to start locking down over normal flu or the next mild cold that pops up, its all government edict and countries with no or less severe lock downs have negligible difference anyway. I expect organized crime outside of parliament to be a much stronger political force in the UK in the next decade since they can now recruit even better talent that would normally go legit and have much more customers due to the imminent great layoff and tsunami of evictions filling up the slums, Less people will have the opportunity to earn extra money doing something Legit but people will still have the same desire to work that they ever did. Invest in the building of bookies and casinos they make a mint during recessions and that's what Manny of the shut down businesses will be converted to over the coming months.
  16. Just out of curiosity do you wonder what would happen if an anti lock-down party formed? it would be at least a big as UKIP was before the referendum. Either called "End the lock-down" or "Never again" something like that. i dont think if it matters if its far left or far right or centrist at this point since it would basically be a single issue party that collapses once one of the big parties makes a half arsed attempt to deliver what they want by exclusively paying lipservice only and then delays it for 6 years. and several prime ministers later have an election where their front man is wearing boxing gloves with "Get Lockdownexit Done" Every occidental government just copies and pastes each others policies in regards to lock down. 94% of Americans who died from COVID-19 had contributing conditions: CDC Coronavirus lockdown may have led to increased child suicides, new report warns Regular adult suicide was very high last year in the UK so using data from other countries with similar lockdowns would be more conducive for determining its affects on adults. We have the furlough scheme and restrictions on evicting people which basically are "remove the plaster slowly, not rip it off quickly" Child poverty in the UK is much much higher than it was 10 or 20 years ago, Low wages and housing costs Austerity is a scapegoat its perhaps 10% of the cause/problem at best, They generally need to leave the house more to get support more than previous generations. Depending on when/where you were born the UK is a High, Middle or Low income country from your point of view

  18. Have you heard the story about Nathan Mayer Rothschild Stock Exchange and the Fake news at the Battle of Waterloo? Assets became hugely devalued and the volatility allowed him to buy it for cheap. These days there are bigger fish to fry and more tools to manipulate the outcome, Making the news instead of faking the news! The politicians can only please their masters within the banking clique so much by giving them additional taxpayer money for free, But having as many blank checks from the politicians they own can only do so much. As hard as they try to push for “cashless” society will find ways to boycott the banks, be it Gold, Bitcoin or another universally valued item of exchange. Many of the businesses we use are increasingly just chains renting even their own name from somebody else the owner may possibly even have never been there only people who just work there occupy its walls. What about the ones that aren’t? Attrition warfare slash their income by locking their customers out putting crippling restrictions and making people either fear the virus Confirmed cases 24,011,502 Active 7,553,477 Recovered 15,636,116 Deaths 821,909 Only 15,636,116 people have recovered and a whopping 821,909 died so deadly zomg AND mostly over 60s and people hardly ever die when they are that age! During the “Great Recession” the banks foreclosed on many owner occupied homes and had the headache of reselling them. It is no coincidence that Homes and businesses have changed from Owner Occupied to tenant occupied, Banks and consortium could own most of the land and contract it out to “property managers” and just tax the populous that way. Ever notice that almost everyone over 40 seems to either own their home or is very keen on staying in their council/housing association home by choice but the exact opposite for anyone who would have been getting on the ladder around the time of the recession when mortgages became considerably harder to get or after the house always seems to be mortgaged by somebody with more financial clout(lucky birthday) and rented out for twice the cost, nobody would even notice if that middleman was cut out and the markup is higher than almost all tax rates. Good luck boycotting the banks when they've crushed everything they don't yet own, Can your income survive and 5 consecutive lockdowns? Attrition warfare at its finest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrGdEwV-efs
  19. Dir wis lockdowns and social distancing because o polio, particularly fur bairns. Not like this lockdown,If you had a school, bar or barber the government did not shut your business down unless there was a specific risk in your area. And the vast majority of the measures taken were not government edicts
  20. Similar experience to Poe's law I suppose. His organisation is hit and miss. Mixed feelings about him Just gave the impression you were yanking his chain with such a marmite source. Least we have a more mainstream source nowhttps://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/1320428/Coronavirus-news-lockdown-mistake-second-wave-Boris-Johnson Let's not forget that in some places like California people have had power and water shut off because of gatherings and many other laws created ad hoc with many countries just copying others we could see that here one day. Banks may begin to foreclose on people who were nowhere near in the red prior to lockdown solely as a result of lockdown duration and debt taken on back when they said it would only be a few days. Lockdown if allowed to continue for too long will cause more damage than the virus, Imagine we were on the second or third year of lockdown and Weimar inflation kicked in.
  21. Alex Jones? Try some guy who is more to worry about like Chris Whitty who is Chief Medical Adviser to the UK Government. We have had way scarier viruses like Polio and NOT locked down, and it took years to vaccinate that but people kept living their lives. Now that several months have passed and a second lockdown is still on the table i think its fair to start comparing effects of the response to the virus and the hypothetical effect of the virus if we hypothetically did not lock down. In other news pension increases may be suspended but right now nothing concrete abut that besides Rishi Sunak and Boris having different views on the matter

You do not have to live in Scotland to use NHS If the Scottish NHS were to be fully separated from the British NHS it would serve British Citizens during the grace period because Scottish citizenship would not exist yet and wouldn't have been rolled out until the hypothetical independence scenario was complete when it would then serve the nationalities specified by the new Scottish government. People would still have their British Citizenship and if Scotland became independent they would get Scottish citizenship after that thereby becoming dual citizens as everyone born in Scotland alive today was born on UK territory. This would be an opportunity to refuse to distribute Scottish citizenship to some British citizens if desired. (for example ISIS fighters returning to Scotland) but one assumes blanket amnesty and open boarders because SNP So for things like Pensions, Medical and some legal matters one would be for some intents and purposes a British Citizen but in other situations a Scottish Citizen as one assumes lots of things grandfathered in and only changing for people who haven't been here very long. NHS and other services would either have to be funded exclusively by the Scottish government or have a bilateral agreement with the remainder of the UK NHS to maintain them as Is, Therefore i think in this scenario it would be appropriate to rename the Scottish NHS to more easily distinguish between S-NHS and UK-NHS
  23. hllps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8655351/Gary-Lineker-Bailiffs-stairlifts-Over-75s-TV-licence-ABSOLUTELY-DISGUSTING.html Just tried it but the site is busy. It's good to see competition though!! Still a requirement for the license if it is live probably the reason why they specify you aren't allowed to watch foreign live TV online without a TV license
