Well Capeesh, stopping the SNP could well be vital for Shetland's future, that's just the way it is.

Would you believe it? The closure of the Sandwick nursery and the likely closure of one in Lerwick is not the fault of the extremely well thought out free nursery care provided by the SNP.
Tom Wills informs us it is all the fault of the local council, and the problems parents in Sandwick are now facing is down to the SIC.
I'm surprised he isn't blaming Westminster, that's the usual line whatever happens.
Always someone else.

Please read John Tulloch's letter in Shetnews.
(** mod edit - here's the link -> https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2019/08/26/election-letter-not-the-right-time-for-a-protest-vote/ **)
It outlines the SNP's desperation to win Shetland, (just look at the number of their top politicians and minions who have been flown in lately), and explains the reason for that desperation.
It is possible that we could in the future get autonomy and look after our own future, if the SNP get in that will be blocked.
This is simply because the SNP desperately needs Shetland's maritime resources for its independence dream to have any chance of being fulfilled.
We hold the cards here, keep them out, and leave the door open for Shetland to gain control over our resources, should we wish to.
John Tulloch makes the point that he has faced flak for not living in Shetland, but then neither does Tom Wills. John Tulloch however has been involved in Shetland politics for a long time.

He's talking about the easily influenced and manipulated youngsters, who have little knowledge of the realities of life. Have no experience of income tax, council tax, household budgets, electricity costs, oil prices, insurance costs, etc.
Of course the next generation as well as the present should be alarmed and frightened regarding the climate emergency, but this doesn't need to be cynically pursued as a means of securing votes for Scottish independence.
And that is exactly what is happening.

And incidentally Capeesh, my neighbour who has been teaching in Shetland for the past 30 years, is refusing to consider voting for the SNP after what they have done to education.

I've already covered the new high school, it was built using the "private finance initiative" or PFI. We, the taxpayers, will be paying for that for the next 30 years, and paying an exorbitant sum many times more than the building costs. Someone is getting big bucks out of this and it aint us. Alex Salmond loved the PFI. Enough said.

No longer empty promises Ghostie, the plan will work. Some of Tom's promises will of course come to well planned fruition.
The timing of it all is of course critical.
Once in, all the stops will be pulled out to ensure enough of Tom's promises will be fulfilled in order to prove what a great choice we have made.
And of course how beneficial for Shetland the vote for the SNP really is.
Any chance we may have had of seeking the same sort of autonomy as the Isle of Man or Faroe in the future will of course have been lost. Jo Grimond tried that many years ago but the spirit wasn't there. It might well be now the way the whole country is going.
But once we're in the SNP clutches, we will have to accept what we're given, and our SNP representatives will toe the party line without question.

The sheer unadulterated desperation here Capeesh is displayed quite openly by the SNP. How much has this campaign cost now? Front page stuff! First page in the Times list of candidates. Full back page of the Times. Carloads of people shipped in to shower us with pamphlets. Huge numbers of lamp posts festooned with plastic, reminding us to vote the right way or else. Vans plastered with SNP imagery. Another visit coming from the desperate first minister. Deputies and other minions having been already.
Nicola needs to help her constituents in Govan, they have been ignored for year on year. Of course there's no money there, Nicola and the SNP want Shetland at any cost, never mind the poor and deprived in Govan. They could have made good use of the fortune spent on the SNP campaign here.

I am stunned regarding the timing here. The SNP secretary for transport has just issued a statement saying that he considers Tom Wills' proposal for ferry fares very reasonable and he looks forward to discussing with him.
Isn't that amazing? He is ready to discuss this and plan a way forward with Tom even before the vote has taken place. Has he just read Tom's leaflet?
I wonder how much discussion has taken place here regarding timing of press releases here.
My! My! This is really well planned isn't it?

I’m not sure there is any smear campaign against Tom Wills, he’s a local man with good intentions, I for one would rather see a local person elected, rather than someone from the mainland, who won’t know the ways of the isles. I think the issues lie with how his party has taken over his campaign which is not doing him any favours. This extremely over the top, in your face approach is not the Shetland way.

I see George is wondering if Boris could find Shetland on a map. Whatever your personal views on Boris and the bumbling effect, the fact is Boris is a very well educated individual, journalist and author. I don't think he would have any problem pinpointing Shetland on a map.
On the other hand, I seem to recall that precious few in Edinburgh, Glasgow or anywhere on the mainland had the faintest idea where Shetland was till the oil came in.
"Hey Jimmy! there's money to be made way up north noo, they've struck oil somewhere cawed the Shetlands. Let's get oot a this misery, there's nae money doon here!."
They want Shetland now they know where it is, and they want what they can get out of it.

There's a difference here Capeesh with the "manifesto" and the way it is articulated. There's none so blind as those who don't wish to see.
