  1. who cares whether its a ferrari or a meriva overtaking you? I overtake people every single day going to work if they are driving slower than I want to go. Overtaking isnt dangerous if its done properly. shetland has seems to be full of people who take offense to being overtaken and drive up your ass when you do it.... if you dont want to be overtaken... drive the speed limit! simple. though i can understand there is the minority of people who are an accident waiting to happen (yaris sized car overtaking a stream of cars around a blind bend) accident waiting to happen.
  2. I would agree dat to a degree all of the pubs in Lerwick are sub standard, wether it be the actual bar, the toilets, or both. Posers is ridiculus, but the pubs know loads of people will come regardless, but they would get lots more people coming in for a quiet pint or 2 if it was better quality. And to the person who said the mid brae inn was the only decent pub, the Scalloway Boatin Club is a brilliant standard, in my opinion the best in Shetland but there is many I havent been in for a long time.
  3. Looks great! Updates on the Sumburgh airport would be handy if possible?
  4. Dodgy heating, pipes bursting, undersized, understocked canteen . . . the list goes on. These are just some of the MAJOR problems with the AHS already. Where is the logic in closing a school of a much higher standard? Sack these clowns who voted for the closure of Scalloway. If they are going to make a major decision like this they need to back it up with FACT. As has already been mentioned they claimed there are more subjects at Lerwick? Bull sh*t. This is a LIE. They actualy decide the columns of subjects for the 3rd and 4th at Scalloway depending on what the bairns want. So looks like they are depriving the Scalloway catchment area of a very high standard of education, to put them to a rundown school to make everyone there have a lower standard of education. (undersized corridors classrooms etc) They said the SJHS bairns would benefit from meeting more bairns, can't see where hes getting that but if its true, does'nt that contradict keeping Skerries open.
  5. Ok I know this kind of thing does go on south aswell but it does get annoying when something that the vast majority of the Shetland population wants comes to Shetland, there has to be some campaign against it. Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys etc. are all national supermarket chains, these campaigns wont stop them building and expanding. Im sure da parents of large families living in Shetland would disagree here. From my experience Tesco are competetive with the other leading brands, when the clubcard scheme is included. But imagine a mother trying to stock her kitchen for a large family of 7, compared to buying in Tesco. Even an average sized family would still be the same. For people who live outwith Lerwick and dont drive, I can understand the frustration of local shops not being open as long or not stocking as much but in my opinion its a small negative compared to a huge positive on the full scale. This is just one of the things which has to be accepted, due to so many people who work in Lerwick, its much easier. I agree with the person who said the ultimate loser to Tesco is the Co-Op, I think this is due to the Co-Op being inferior, i.e. barely anybody on the tills, and no room to que up, where as in Tesco they try to open up tills when it gets too busy. I am just voicing my opinion, not trying to force it upon anyone. But I have really only come across a few people in person who dont agree with Tesco, compared to the hundreds who are very very happy with it.
  6. You dunna git ony o dis on going debating aboot Tesco vs. local down on da mainland. A lot of people in Shetland should stop living in the past. One thing that I have noticed is that people who argue against Tesco are very often people who have moved up to Shetland, do they not consider that people who have lived in Shetland their whole lives might want some of the good deals which are taken for granted on the mainland. Also as someone else pointed out, I buy nearly everything apart from food online now. Whats next, no more internet shopping for people in Shetland? or ban the Shetlink Classifieds because its taking away the Christmas shopping from Lerwick?!? Dont think so.
  7. yeah whin i saa in da fitba forum sumthin aboot dolphins bein much mare important den fitba or sumthin...... den it appeared on here.

  13. I agree dat it is possible tae git a good priced flight on da Aberdeen - Sumburgh flight if you book in advance, n i think thers aboot 5 or so flights a day which is really handy. Bit I da other airports dont have such a good service or price. Im trainin on da mainland near edinburgh n I git very few holidays tae come back tae shetland, theres only 3 flights which is inconvenient, n unless you book weel in advance prices can be £180 BEFORE taxes charges, n they try tae trick you intae payin extra tae choose your seat, which can be done free at da check in desk. I wis lookin at it no too leng ago aboot goin home fur me birthday weekend, n dir wis loads o sunny countries abroad dat wis cheaper tae fly tae den Shetland, which meant tae be a pairt da UK.
  14. I would agree that they are very handy. Maybe if it was situated somewhere outof the way of drunk folk on their night out. I know I wouldnt walk very far away with the taxi rank, kebab shop, n tattie shop all close by.
