  1. I have more respect for Boris now ,at least he tried to get us out of this vicious circle the EU have presented us with a deal that has been rejected three times and intimated  they are not willing to negotiate any further so why would our politicians want to sit and debate any longer, on something that not going any further .

IMHO Boris did the only thing but with so many rebels he has been "snookered" but I believe come the results of the pending election he may well get the last laugh.

Many of those rebels will lose there seats and good riddance to them all as they have destroyed the UK.

Still think the EU is mainly at fault ,holding us to ransom,if they issued clear instructions as to there intentions regarding us and brexit,  just ma'be some of our rebellious MPs would come to there senses and see the real side of this great european conglomerate that has so much hold on us.

This is hilarious! It is Mays deal!

She handicapped herself by losing her majority, ridiculous Red lines and not facing up to the ERG.

The Tory party owns this situation and it is they who are destroying the UK.

  2. We must ban any notion of a referendum on anything in the future, because the results mean nothing. No matter the topic. Politicians of all colours refuse to respect the vote because they know better..

We might have found a way ahead by having an election but Corbyn is going to block that it seems unless no deal is taken off the agenda. "Let's tie our hands behind our backs before we face the opponent." Duh!!

An election might bring some progress, a way out of this painful and mind numbing stalemate.

Are we facing another 3 years of pointless bickering, with no way forward at the end of it?

    It looks that way!

No we just have to accept that a referendum is advisory unless it specifically says so in the legislation.

The only progress that an election would bring is that a no deal Brexit would happen on the sly.

  3. So, what is the remainers end game?

Keep us in this eternal limbo of the last three years for who knows how many years to come, destroying the country in the process with the uncertainty. Or, start a civil war by continually blocking any form of brexit by whatever means they can dream up, in the hope folk get fed up waiting and it all just fades away in to obscurity with nothing changed.

    Neither will end well,

One of their own tried for three years to please everybody, and only succeeded in pissing off everybody and making herself look a bumbling moron in the process, Boris has tried the only other option for moving ahead that ison the table, and has been headed off at the pass in the first squirmish. Time will tell if he can mount a successful counter attack.

So, just how do remainers propose to break this stalemate seeing it is they who have now blocked all the known viable options that could achieve progress.

The only option that has been attempted is Mays deal and she couldn't get that through parliament.

Did the ERG vote for it and thus achieve Brexit?

  4. "We're in a very unusual if not unique situation. The referendum produced a 'leave' majority, yet a subsequent election produced what appeared to be a 'remainer' majority parliament, which wasn't promising for getting anything done. May, an apparent 'remainer' tried for three years to push through just about every alternative to a 'No deal' there is, and couldn't get it past either parliament, the EU, or both."

    No she really didn't!

may constrained and handicapped herself right from the beginning and finally with no ideas and no wiggle room she just kept trying the same old deal.

  5. Check your facts here George. Alex Salmond won a judicial review because of the incompetence of Leslie Evans, permanent secretary to the Scottish government, and the behind the scenes meetings held by our Nicola and Leslie with Alex Salmond. This botched investigation by ministers is what has cost the taxpayer a fortune, total could be £630,000 it seems, so far!

You say he has been found not guilty!

His trial will only take place early in 2020 and he is facing multiple charges.

Almost correct the judicial review was won due to Leslie Evans seeming bias. Nothing to do with meetings with Nicola Sturgeon.

Not sure if it was incompetence but seems strange that Evans ignored the investigation procedure that she wrote in tandem with head of HR who's name escapes me at the moment.

  6. So Tom Wills is going to phone Nicola first thing on Friday if he wins and start the process to bring some of his promises to fruition. Now is there any doubt left here as regards the well thought out plan?

"Hold back on the good stuff till they vote the right way, then we've got them."

Been planned for a while this one.

Sounds more like he intends to fulfill his promises.

  7. So the SNP leader is calling Boris a dictator due to his decision to suspend parliament, surely this must be a case of the "pot calling the kettle black".

    How please explain?

With so much open rhetoric going on between our politicians, our EU leaders just have to sit back and do nothing ,they have presented us with a deal ,apparently no longer negotiable, which has been rejected but still the "remoaners" fight tooth and nail .

What do you expect the EU to do? The EU negotiated a deal with May who then could not get it through parliament against her section of her own party.

This must be "open dealing " the EU just have to sit back and watch the pantomime and do nothing and they have got it all there own way ,unless of course Boris manages to get us out.

Let democracy run it's course ,leave the EU as the majority of GREAT BRITAIN voted, and get the country back on track .

Completely untrue, the majority of the UK did not vote to leave the UK.

Tomorrow I will vote but only for someone who respects democracy, not tactfully but not sure I care who gets in now, they all full of promises that we know  will never be fulfilled

  8. Just leave at 11pm tonight.  Who gives a flying {'f' it was funny in Father Ted 'eck'} that the extension is valid under international law because if we leave, who precisely is going to do us for breaking international law?  Besides, the SI extending it under UK law might well be illegal, because Gina Miller's Court action set a precedent that parliament has to be consulted first (or words to that effect).

11pm.  29 March 2019.  Just get the hell off the gravy train monster.

That SI was laid before parliament and passed by the house on the 27th March.

  9.

Why would the moderator take it down? what rule is being broken?

It is a charity not a business.

If it's a charity, then why not state the name of the charity and the Scottish registration number?  I suspect not, because the dogs are coming from Spain.  Now it might well be the case that the individual is a volunteer for the Spanish organisation and there is an organisation for adopting Spanish dogs which is a registered charity in Scotland (is it the same one though?); the thing is, there is NO information on the advert to actually categorically state that it is on behalf of a registered charity.

To me, there's far too many adverts for pets these days by ANY charity which really are emotional blackmail.  They are run as a business; I have a friend in London who adopted from a medium-sized charity and before you know it, not only was she told which local vets to use, but also that she really should sign up for dog training classes with a specific individual ... and they weren't cheap and she ended up going to a different, better qualified dog trainer!

It might well be the case that the person in Shetland isn't making a packet out of this, or, for that matter, this particular organisation in Spain but there are most definitely some adoption agencies that are basically big businesses.

What does concern me are home checks and whether or not this particular organisation would take back a dog if things didn't work out; that's what is deemed good practice by decent dog breeders these days, yet sometimes I've seen people state on Facebook that they have an adopted dog and it can't go back to the adoption agency.  That's strange, because with the larger UK dogs charities, it's a condition of the contract with them.

Facebook doesn't permit pet sales any more (not that you'd notice!) and the Government are encouraging people not to buy pets over the internet so I can understand why some would rather not see this type of ad by what might well be an unregulated organisation here on Shetlink or it's new sidekick/whatever the pesky new ad section is called.

If you are that concerned you should contact her like I did.

I can only comment on my situation.

My house was home checked after being interviewed on the phone and filling a questionnaire.

The dog is still part owned by the charity and I have to contact them if I wanted to sell, give away or major medical procedure.

The person in question is  a volunteer for a large dog rescue organisation in Spain but also deals with rescues from the UK.

I have met her and she seems a nice person and is genuinely an animal lover but is maybe not the most IT savvy person.
