  1. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ It isn’t rubbish Colin - it is the law of the land passed by a democratically elected parliament. Your democratic right is to stand for election and if you get elected then you can democratically try to get the law changed – until then you will just have to like it or lump it just like the rest of us, unless your name is Stuart Hill, - in which case.......
  2. Shetland has no ‘right’ or power, legal or otherwise, to negotiate anything with anybody. If Scotland votes for the partition of the UK then Shetland will be part of the new independent state of Scotland whether we like it or not and there is absolutely nothing the new CE or anybody else can do about it.
  3. "I've found me a nice new hunny-pot" said Pooh. "You'll get your fingers all sticky" said Tigger. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_o6cGH0OWo44/R40dCXr8LiI/AAAAAAAAAAU/ABQlAbHkkuE/s320/winnie_the_pooh.jpg
  4. As far as I know all transformers, and oil tanks including domestic heating oil should have a bund sufficient to contain the contents if they leak Some bund if it can contain the spray of oil coming from a gearbox 90 metres up in the air in 40 mph wind - but hey, maybe they'll erect a 100 metre high concrete wall around each turbine to stop the oil.
  5. Absolutely shocking, nearly 40 gallons. How many times has this happened? As many as 69? the report mentions that they have managed to dig it out and dispose of it. sp your ignorance on the siting of the VE windfarm is as complete as all other subjects you post on. Just one gallon of gearbox oil washed into the hill drainage and peat-pipes would wipe out all aquatic life in the watercourses and trout lochs.
  6. AT wrote: Billy Fox ran for MSP. He didn't win. That was your democracy in action. Ms Urquhart (SNP) came third but is now a MSP with a vote that will cancel out any vote by our elected MSP Tavish Scott - now that's democracy.
  7. GEARBOX OIL LEAK ON WIND FARM http://orleanscountyrecord.com/main.asp?SectionID=7&SubSectionID=32&ArticleID=13810 And again
  8. Yes - they will be dining out on VE's hospitality account - paid for by Shetland Charitable Trust, but then they are honest, upstanding, deserving, impoverished members of our community - aren't they?
  9. This is what happens if you speak out against the SIC http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2012/03/15/freefield-centre-staff-member-sent-home
  10. [***Mod Edit - Threads Merged***] Just when you think the SIC couldn't get any worse http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2012/03/15/freefield-centre-staff-member-sent-home
  11. It’s bloody hard work being a UK born, non-Muslim, Caucasian, heterosexual these days.
  12. Unless you think the Stuart Hill is correct (and he may be) Shetland has no legal right to hold a referendum to 'go it alone' no more than Scotland has a legal right to their referendum - the Uk (or Scotland) would have to grant Shetland the same powers to 'go it alone' as is the case at the moment with Westminster granting Scotland powers to hold an independence referendum. I can't see any government UK or Scottish letting Shetland break away - indeed it would set a precedent for any county of Britain to leave the UK - it just won't happen.
  13. Will someone please explain on what basis Shetland has a control over any oilfields? – Shetland has no more legal right to the oil fields before or after independence than any other county in Scotland. Shetland has no powers to negotiate revenues from oil taken from UK waters or Scottish waters - Shetland has no legal basis by which to gain these powers from Britain or Scotland. The only bargaining chip Shetland had in the 1970s was control of the inshore sea-bed and Sullom Voe – the oil companies can now bypass Shetland if they want.
  14. Why not post them? You are not supposed to carry something onto an aircraft for another person.
  15. ^^^^^^^^ Spot on spinner. George Box put it well when he said "all models are wrong but some models are useful". Thus useful models, such as climate change models, of necessity come out with a range of predictions to assist decision makers. The big problem here is that groups or individuals, such as a well known poster on Climate Change, will cherry-pick the predictions that suit their argument best.
  16. At Shetland Catch in Lerwick, one of Europe's largest fish processors, the company installed a duplicate conveyor belt when its new factory was built, fitting a secret weight-reading device in the loft and a computer in an engineer's workshop "a considerable distance" from the factory floor. from http://www.guardian.co.uk/envi.....al-catches
  17. not really - they were trying to be clever - trying to make the money obtained by criminal deception appear to be obtained by legal means by hiding it in their declared earnings. It just means that they paid tax on money they shouldn’t have had in the first place – in effect they were getting away with swindled money after tax.
  18. At Shetland Catch in Lerwick, one of Europe's largest fish processors, the company installed a duplicate conveyor belt when its new factory was built, fitting a secret weight-reading device in the loft and a computer in an engineer's workshop "a considerable distance" from the factory floor. from http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/feb/24/fishing-skippers-fined-illegal-catches Did Shetland Islands Council Economic Development Unit give Shetland Catch a grant to build their new factory? If so did someone in the SIC know what was going on? Obviously the criminal plan was hatched when the factory was constructed. If a grant was paid then in view of the crimes committed by the recipients of the grant, should not the SIC try to recover their money that was used to set up the crime?
  19. It wasn’t a ‘few’ - this was a major criminal deception carried out by a large percentage of UK pelagic fleet in collusion with some of the country’s largest fish buyers. The sophistication of the deception set up by Shetland Catch was staggering - this was no simple scam trying to avoid EU rules - this was serious planned criminality under UK law. Almost unbelievably the leader of the SIC Josie Simpson is trying to make excuses for the actions of all involved – this was no catch 22 this was criminal greed. http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/3442-caught-up-in-a-catch-22.html This was no victimless crime – the losers were the taxpayer and the environment. Simpson, along with the criminals, is a disgrace to Shetland and should be sacked.
  20. I'm having the same problem - but what I do now is I tell them to call me back on my other number while I switch on my pc and give them the crimestoppers number to call, which is 01595 694544
  21. ^^^^^^ Sp – you haven’t got a clue what you are on about. The windfarm planning application is with the Energy Consents Unit who will pass on a recommendation to the Scottish Energy Minister. Following the recommendation of the ECU, the minister can either: accept the application; reject the application or (most likely) order a Local Public Inquiry. The SIC has no role other than advisory.
  22. Since you are well off topic I would suggest ad nauseum
  23. I read shetlandpeat's posts on Shetlink.
  24. Fair Isle is owned by the National Trust for Scotland - living on the island has nothing to do with the RSPB.
