  1. Doesn’t matter very much who owns the land – because the tunnel and approaches are part of the roads network any necessary land can be obtained by compulsory purchase.
  2. Shetland probably isn't big enough in population to go it alone but Shetland and Orkney together as a single unit just might be.
  3. LPA already own the land and already have the tunnel plans they got from the consultants they employed to provide an alternative for the SIC Bressay bridge (which was possibly to be named the Sandy Cluness Harbour Bridge). http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2008/10/31/bressay-tunnel-in-three-years-say-engineers-behind-project The tunnel approaches and entrances were to be cut through Gremista and Heogan.
  4. I'm English, was born and bred in what used to be Danelaw. My family name is of Viking origin. I'm genetically as Viking as most Shetlanders. Does that mean I get a vote in the genetically-decided independence referendum of Shetland mooted on this thread? Or does my Sooth mooth origin prevent that? (Pro crown-dependency BTW - being a tiny outpost of the Republic of Scotland won't help Shetland at all. The notions of re-union with Denmark or Norway are just romantic pipe-dreams. Speaking to my relatives in Norway they think the whole notion is very odd, and there is no appetite there for acquiring Shetland, save for the oil and the fish). Based on genetics everybody should get the vote - even chimps. see http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-Much-DNA-Do-We-Share-With-the-Chimps-40594.shtml
  5. An interesting theory, please elaborate: by how much are Shetlinkers genetically different from; (a) ‘the English’, ( the aboriginal people of Australia, © chimpanzees?
  6. Yes but this 'boat' gets £36 million a year government subsidy which the hotel dosen't.
  7. That is not actually true. Scotland is not a sovereign state, but it is officially accepted as being a country. By who exactly?
  8. I was born in Shetland and like everybody else born in the United Kingdom I have a UK passport. I do not want to give up my UK passport because the country I was born in is called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Scotland is not a country and hasn’t been one since 1707. I don’t wish to be part of a region of Britain (i.e. Scotland) that wishes to break away from the UK and I certainly don’t want to see Salmond’s swastika (the saltire) flying over Lerwick Town Hall.
  9. The "trespass" law in Scotland only applies if you cause or intend to cause damage to the owners land or property, otherwise you're free to roam wherever you like.No – there is no law of trespass in Scotland. There is the right of responsible access to the countryside in Scotland but you would have no right of access to an industrial site like Burradale Wind Farm for health and safety and insurance reasons – just like any other industrial site..
  10. ...then they joined the Euro and the whole project went tits up and today there are as many young people leaving the Republic as there was during the fammine.... if Scotland had been independent and joined the Euro at the same time with Salmond following the Irish example then Scotland would have gone down the tubes as well.... No, I don't want to see Salmond's swastika (the saltire) flying over Lerwick town hall.
  11. Second only to Sandy Cluness an Josie Simpson
  12. So if you want to go into the building to use the toilet (or cafe) then they'll tap you for £12?
  13. Interesting take on it here http://forargyll.com/2012/01/danger-to-shipping-as-shetland-coastguard-call-for-help/
  14. Could it be that Shetland Coastguard didn’t task the tug to take charge of this hazard to shipping? If so why not? – after all it was the Shetland community, including salmon farmers, that was instrumental in saving their jobs.
  15. What other shows? Answer, none: no-body apart from the Up-Helly-Aa committee for mass meetings. Who would want to put on a show in the uncomfortable, poorly ventilated Garrision when there is a multi-million £ all singing all-dancing (pun intended,) state-of-the-art, purpose built facility just down the road?
  16. Since there will be no public subsidy then they will have to charge admission at a level that will cover the costs.
  17. ^^^^^^^^^^ SP do you have nothing better to do than write reams of rubbish – or are you starting the New Year as you intend to go on. There are no SIC or Hjaltland Housing Association houses sub-let on Shetland and the punitive legislation you witter on about to applies only in England and Wales
  18. Why? because the last time I looked out the window Shetland was still in the northern North Sea and administered by Scotland and not in either England or Wales.
  19. Apparently a faceless, brainless and spineless creature has been found in the waters off Orkney – must be similar to those creatures we see occasionally in Lerwick Town Hall. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-16346065
  20. ^^^^ HE has just posted his 666th post The number of the beast http://www.666truth.org/portals/_default/skins/666Truth/images/666-antichrist_02.jpg
  21. Unless it is an Accident or an Emergency then don't go to A&E. It isn't there to act as a walk-in centre, hence the name. ^^^ Ignore this go the the hospital New Out of Hours Walk-In Clinics In addition to looking to improve the access to the service, the Board is providing a weekend walk-in primary care service at the Gilbert Bain Hospital. This operates between 10.00am - 12.00pm and 6.00pm - 8.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Patients should just come to the Gilbert Bain Hospital if they wish to see a GP at these times. This service is available now.
  22. As I said it is the owners’ responsibility – there is nothing preventing owners from taking their cars to garages to have roadworthiness checks done as many times a year as they feel necessary to stay within the law - nothing to do with whether or not a garage is MOT rated or the Police’s ability or lack of it to provide roadside checks.
  23. The MOT just means that the vehicle meets set test criteria on one day a year - nothing more. A vehicle could be un-roadworthy the next day – it is the owners responsibility to ensure the vehicle is legally roadworthy at all times whether it has a MOT or not or on the isles or not – living on the isles does not exempt anyone from driving an un-roadworthy vehicle. If you dive an un-roadworthy vehicle on the isles exactly the same law applies there as on Mainland. I believe that a change to having a MOT every second year instead of annual is in offing and possibly 5 years instead of 3 years car age for the first MOT as is the case in Northern Ireland.
