  1. There does not appear to be any planing documents with the latest development at Moorfields. http://www.shetland.gov.uk/news-advice/CouncilcompletestennewhomesinBrae.asp
  2. A brave stance, I would not be surprised to see Tesco appeal this if it were based on a feeling rather than a planning matter as laid down by the Gov. There is grounds that this could oppose one of the planning policies by not encouraging better use of the district centre. Planners have been busy rewriting policies due to an extraordinary delay in updating to suit the needs of communities. I wonder if visits to Lerwick or other shopping areas have reduced due to the delivery service.
  3. You are right, not much publicity, even with my alleged google skills.
  4. Well, you of all know the script. Is the development on one of the three identified housing development areas of in the "best fit" area?
  5. Any news released on housing schemes mentions local benefits, this is true if contracts are given to local contractors. This also benefits local trades folks. What I do notice is a contractor will out source labour. That defeats the object I feel, more so if it is social housing. Many of the larger construction companies have been found guilty of Blacklisting workers, this is against the law. The ones who did the most have split or changed their names. You may be better writing two letters, however, I would email. I would guess that the HA are the ones to ask, though, someone may know at the council. HAs I believe are not subject to the FOI laws, though they still may reply, when and how they want. I have never found any successful FOI application to Hjaltland as yet.
  6. It should be on the site, there should be an information board detailing this. Attending the meetings help, these are advertised well enough in advanced, you can also find the minutes of such meetings and the full plans and justifications laid down on the planning portal. This document may have the contractor on it, or the main one. Generally, newspapers do not publish details of contractors, why would they unless it comes under tendering protocols and has to be listed via Public Contracts Scotland. However, HAs may not have to provide this due to their status. There are three sites set for housing development in Brae, there is also a live application for 2 houses next to the Fire Station.
  7. From the BMJ 10 years ago... http://www.bmj.com/content/329/7472/939.3
  8. It would be difficult to spend more money on something you are quietly selling off for the simple fact there is less of it.
  9. With the Shetland Islands independant, and privatised, as is suggested, how would you be able to control your assets, after all, you will be handing much of the running to capitalists. The only way capitalism will prevent the plunder in Shetland waters would be to sell it off. Thank you for your consideration into my health though, however, incorrect they may be, it is apreciated. I doubt Shetland will go it alone, there would be little interest especially as there will be no automatic right to they mystical sea boundaries. Happily as well, Scotland, what ever happens will still have a social role to play in improving the health and the wealth of the nation. The EU membership will be required, or at least following EU rules to get on.
  10. How much will you pay towards the bridge?
  11. Don't try and make out I'm claiming something when I'm not. You really are quite predictable... Anyhow, you soon will be able to continue to vote south if there is a yes vote. As for the Scorrie interjection, WTF. Body swerve? You really are graduating from the same school as others. As everyone seems to think, who are anal, the fishing fleet will be the saviour of the Northern Ises (guess who I am pointing that at) and will sustain the Northern most Isles of the new Scotland. It will not, if you compare the numbers employed by the industry who are land based, they are less than those employed by the council, yet, the fishing industry process fish, if that is all you are after, being processed then of course, you do not need a council, or its employees. To be honest, what point scoring are you trying to achieve. You do not get points for sitting on the side lines and following the sentiment of comments made by folk who may have been quicker with their thought and response. The evidence has indicated, that nationalisation is preferred, and why not for the fishing industry. If it suits your argument, then you of course are the all seeing. Enjoy the title. I am quite happy that you as well have bothered to delve into the sphere of Gooogle to bolster your claims, it is full marks for you. Now doubt you are learing from the graduate. Fair play to you... Anyhow, as a lib dem, how do you see the current Yes No vote?
  12. Call it what you will, the issue is still there. The YouGov survey on nationalisation shows that accross the political spectrum, folk want services to remain, or return to public ownership. If you want to continue to live in the past, and so far in the past, then you will be considered the dinosaurs. How will you have an independant Shetland if you are going to let Serco run it? Serco Islands Council? We are experiencing the effects of private companies entering the NHS. This will be coming to a shore near you. It is also the giving of public wealth to private companies who will bank it offshore, away from Shetland, private companies will also drive down the wage of those not in control. You only have to see the reports of what is going on around the country. No one has been shot down, and never will with those comparisons, as we know, Communisum ain't really that popular, however, it still is a good word to use to try to rubbish social inclusion. And typically expected in the argument against. From the figures obtained from SIC, it appears the fishing industy makes about £7500 per head of population but employs a minimal land based number of staff in comparison. Where as SIC are spending less than that, by at least a third yet employ far more. In general, more than 50% of what the council pays its staff, goes back into the community.
  13. It is not just the building costs, bridges have to be maintained as well. The cost of the Bressay Ferry can be obtained if you ask, the bridge I have spoken about here, is a real possibility, the river is 100 meters wide, the bridge will be about 300, than add on the slips and access. The Bressay Sound bridge of course would be much longer but will not contain the 4 lanes we require. Some of the present crew would be required to man the toll booth say with a Bressay Bridge.
  14. Yup, that is why we have fuel poverty. Greed will not address this, again, a simplistic view. The fact is, Shetland will never get your 200 miles, never. If it does happen, the Icelandic fisher folk will steam in and take the fish home. Bribing folk is not the way to look after them. Are you going to employ the A-Team as well? Mysterious, or just hidden? Already looking at syphoning off public money to line the pockets of those who already have. Did not take long.
  15. It is good to sound off with but there will be no substance to the claim, it is, unrealistic and hollow. At the moment, Shetland fisher folk do quite well in comparison, the trouble though is the UK land more fish than any other EU state. Out with the EU would be available, the Shetland Fleet would still be policed in EU waters and will have to go elsewhere. Surcharges will be incurred due to practices not fitting in with EU policies for trade agreements. It really is simplistic what is being suggested. Now, nationalise the fishing fleet, you may be on to something, as we know, the fishing industry in Shetland brings in a heafty sum, into private hands.
  16. The alternative race to Bressay. http://youtu.be/pcawnRIyeok?t=3m3s
  17. It seems more folk are going abroad to end their lives and free themselves from the chains they are tired of carrying. Nan Maitland featured on the Jeremy Vine show... Extracts from a spiritualist forum.... http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/archive/index.php?t-13741.html The issue is, folk are going and doing this using another countries law, one we have no control over. We cannot bar them, pointless taking the carer to court so why would it be better to have our own guidlins so we can give folk like Nan the choice and be free of any worry and end her life in the UK?
  18. There does seem to be an issue with donating, however, it may be a logistics thing. It seems cost counts as well as platelet counts. But, many Shetland based folk travel through Aberdeen, I am sure plans could be altered to give blood here.... https://www.scotblood.co.uk/aberdeen.aspx Twerto raised it back in 2007 and the thread rumbled on until 2009... it seems there is an issue with costs and storage. On donation, I wonder how many folk who have long hair cut off donate that, anything over 6 inches or 15 (ish) CM is acceptable and helps folks with the side effects of cancer treatments. Mention it to your facilitator of shorter hair the next time you see tham..
  19. Scotland could enter into agreements with the EU, as other countries do, it would mean they follow the protocols. It may benefit Scotland being they are already up with the infrastructure, slotting into the EU would not take long. It would be a good thing if they do.
  20. No need to trawl through posts my dear, such comments are easily remembered, unlike others, I do not search out info like that. However, none were really used in the making of that post, just a little Shetland decendant humour. As for vodka, no thanks. That will be the Russian in ya. Now, what has it to do, well, tenuous probably, however, it is a thread on ferries. Of course, someone did mention ferries being cancelled due to the special weather...
