  1. Early retirement comes with some serious reductions. As you know, you cannot leave on a full pension early. As for your assumptions, I would say they are wrong, I know you have vast experience from your working in the council, it seems to have led you down a bias path. It generally is not the red tape but the T&Cs and wage cuts that have hammered moral. The fear of job losses too. Some have had real cuts to their wages of around 24%. This is due to EPR and pay rise reductions, add to that the change in T&Cs which affect the wage. It is a shame you do not bother to find out the facts yourself, attending and questioning is what someone like yourself should do, being armed with the knowledge and facts you have will put you in good stead, I look forward to Councillor Ghost and the graduate making an appearance. Best get ure Honda 90 out of the shed.
  2. It is the fear that has brought on low moral in my experience, councils are losing skilled folk hand over foot. It is one of the results of a crap pay policy and the fear of job losses and continuing changes to employment conditions. We have had the council worker bashing on their T&Cs and it is still used as a rod to beat them with and the incorrect statements about their value. 3 If it were that simple "as" Kavi, then even you could manage it, however, it ain't.
  3. Do they not get higher wages than every one else. Sadly, that has been the attitude on here that try to convince us that the staggeringly high wages are not in line with the private sector. It seems that council wages are less. Enough to encourage folk to leave. However, cheap is best, so, go with the chain ferry. Not really the case.
  4. The SIC are not a contruction company, as private companies cannot social care without a profit. I doubt as well that the SIC are guilty of malpractice as many of the larger construction companies are. It may be a need to lessen crews, due to the staggeringly high wage SIC are paying ferry crew members, they have left and taken far poorer paid jobs in the private sector. How very dare they. There is a guy on Luing who uses a Honda scooter engine to get his truck over some water using a chain ferry/barge to visit his lobster store, he may advise.
  5. They have estimated a bridge across the river near here at £80,000,000. In 3 years time, £92,000,000 so, the longer you leave it...
  6. It was advertised on here, this is the voice of Shetland is it not?
  7. Just shows what hard work can achieve, best get off your keyboard (warrior) and get grafting!
  8. Do you not have any figures apart from your best guess? It will be difficult to ask the right questions if you have not the correct answers already to the ones you will base your accusation upon.
  9. Don't forget the many places in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales that show Norse ancestry, as well as some of the well used trade links to the Middle East. Could be the NU!? Still, all is not happy.... http://fuelfix.com/blog/2014/07/06/norwegian-oil-services-strike-averted/
  10. Can that be evidenced without falling into the above "figures trap"? There will be of course, those "benefits" that would be hard to show until much later. Even then, they will remain unquantifiable due to a lack of monitoring. Life is like these threads, many bits are quickly forgotten, like best mates at school who vow never to drift apart. The only sure way would be to involve an independant audit, however, that will never satisfy one party or another, if not both. It could be said you too are not quite on the "whole picture" bit. . You are very correct, certain costs have increased, you need to show what the savings would have been not to shut the school. Being able to evidence that over a projected period is the information that would be needed to tackle this. It is not always the case that if the public will, they get. Adding to the mix is the £4000 per head of population spent to give the facilities that are available now. It is a shame there appears to be no body who can do any meaningful work on the figures on here.
  11. No one can be trusted then.... as you say.
  12. I will leave you in your "happiness" with that one.
  13. They are not after just door staff. There appears to be a bit more to it. You need SIA trained folk for premises, some rear of counter work can only be done by SIA folk.
  14. Moist air can be a problem, houses need movement of air. There are other causes as well, tumble driers, cooking and poor maintenance to name a few. However, instead of posting here, you may need to get on to Environmental Health.
  15. VE has FA to do with the Mareel and SIA officers. The fact you want to link the two does the debate on the need or no need of a SIA officer no justice. Still, there is a need for an SIA officer, they will be paid for as they are required. Still, you do have it within your gift to change the status quo.
  16. Pop up shop opening Wednesday 20th (tomorrow). Please come along and have a browse, if you have anything that may help, I asure you it will be apreciated... The shop is situated in the old LHD shop.
  17. It is really a worry when everything is just purely about money an profits. If however, the establishment needs such an operative for future plans, and requires the operative to carry in-house training (which will show a saving on external training), requires the operative to be on a "on-call" system rather than a permanent employment basis, it would be justified using your "just think of the money" reasons. It is still a fair wage and sustainable.
  18. It has been going on for weeks.... http://abc7chicago.com/business/warning-issued-on-microsoft-support-scam/267322/ http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/security/3378798/microsoft-phone-scam-dont-be-victim/ Let here know so they can let others know ---- trading.standards@shetland.gov.uk
