He also does contribute the odd good point or a hundred. its when egos crash that problems start.

I have been waiting for your report on the budget, good of you to try to label me as a bully, I have not been. If you say you are going to do something, don't and are reminded of that how can that be bullying. What you are doing using that phrase is to make the situation much worse than it really is. Bullying is the use of force, violence or coercion to get ones way. It generally means, in the broadest sense that there is a stronger and weaker presence. This situation is not that. So, it is worrying that you use that phrase.
 
During the Black Bag debate, you intimated you were doing something about the budget, that is, the perceived high costs of staff and services.

However, as money has been mentioned, it is interesting to note that roughly, every member of the population on Shetland has about £4955 spent on it a year compared to say Lancashire that has only has about £519 spent per head of population, that being 1.4 odd million. Perhaps there may have to be reductions so you can afford the cuts imposed, shouting about past spends does not solve the present situation.
 
Anyhow, nothing has happened, so, we are watching the space you have left with this. Though, not being exact with the phrase now will give you more grapeshot to sling around and totally miss the point. However, it is not important, now is it?
 
What is important is the apparent failure of Shetland to elect a council that will "man up". In the eyes and thoughts of a few who comment openly about this.
 
I do agree, you cannot sack the council, Siccar, although blunt tends to be right in their observations.

Doesn't seem to be happy unless he is stirring things up so, you could always try what myself, and a lot of others do, just ignore the troll and don't acknowledge any of his posts.

Uninhabitable? I doubt that a wind turbine has rendered a room unsuitable for living in because of a flicker. If that is the case I am quite upset that wind turbines have forced folk to abandon using rooms, losing a room for the duration of the life of the turbine sounds quite shocking. There are many occilations in nature and in the man made world.

I know a little about Todmorden, I used to drive a gritter from Burnley to the surrounding areas, it is rather nice. The turbines do not really look out of place. Another link I have with Todmorden is the community food growing, ours is not on the scale as the Increadible Edible but we do our best.

we have an evance system. apart from one auto shut off due to wind speed. its not had a problem. evance have had to alter the amout it feeds into the grid as they wont allow more than roughly 3.5kw connections the rest is sent to a dump heater. the installation went smoothly the groundworks guy was local and very friendly he is from twat. we thought they would destroy our park as it gets very soft but it was way better than we thought. 

It is not about killing those who do not fit in with society in any form. It is simply a mechanism for those who can administer to them selves a cocktail of drugs at their choice to end the suffering they feel. While I agree that life is fantastic, for some it is not, they have had the best of it and wish to leave. If life is good, no need to destroy it, however, again I ask, why would you want someone to continue a miserable and painful existance beacause of your own personal fears of your own demise. Very few will understand the processes that folk who tread this path go through to meet the conclusion. What you fail to mention are the millions who consider this path and do not take it. I do find it upsetting that we are happy to see our loved ones in such a condition and are bound by fear to give them the final release from their condition at their request.
 
I worry now that you will have the same attitude towards a living will, where folk again choose how far they go with the self preservation of life. I worry that you will go against that choice if you could that folk have made. I worry that we cling on to an ethos created by folk of lesser understanding but a determination to control in the name of a diety.

Folk need to be prepared to some degree for their passing in cases.

Not one person from the UK has been prosecuted for taking someone to Dignitas.
 
As we see from the Law, it is open but still needs to be amended especially if there is burden of proof that the patient wanted to end their life to relieve suffering. It would not be in the public interest to haul a distraught husband, wife or child before the courts for helping their loved one fulfill their last wishes, that to be able to pass away with Dignity. This though does need to be underpinned so as not to discriminate.

The few I have met who have now passed on by taking their own lives have been fully prepared and had planned every part of their demise. They did so before they had to get help, knowing that if they did, they could be putting someone at risk of further hurt.

In a survey in the USA, a large number of nurses admitted to manipulating opiate doses prescribed by doctors in order to releave the suffering experienced by patients. Their identities were not disclosed. This manipulation resulted in death.
 
I would wonder if you include those who work in hospices as having an acute experience in death.
 
This then throws up all sorts of other issues. I would hope that if someone is prescribed medication that they can voluntary take to end their own life is not the only reason listed as cause of death.
What is woefully wrong is the way causes of death are reported by doctors. There is a serious shortfall of funding for research because of Doctors unwilling to report deaths properly outside of the hospital. With many patients with a life ending illness passing away at home or a hospice, they are not as acurately reported.
 
With working and talking to a Peadiatric Brain Tumour charity, I found that funding, for what is one of the biggest killers of those under 40 with cancer is very seriously underfunded because of the failure of Doctors to report properly. So much so that the charity has funded a reserch project to the tune of £700,000. A sterling effort.
 
I hope Paul you are not insisting that folk should not be afforded a choice in how and when they shuffle off and they should suffer the pais of life. As you should very well know, with some, pain cannot be relieved. The patien becomes cabbaged on high doses of opiates until their heart gives way under the stress or they, as you very well know, suffer multiple organ failure and die in a most horrid way.
 
All there should be is a choice. Who are You to keep that from folk?

sounds more like arrogance and selfishness on the wife's part...she didn't want him to go but hang on to him for longer, but for who's benefit? His or her owns? He obviously felt the time was right and maybe he wanted to spare the family having to watch the inevitable end? I really don't think that is cowardice.

This comment is crass. If you think this is worthy of evidence against, it could be that the situation was right for the person, if they ever existed. You need to be lucid and on top to be mentally able to go down this route. How is he a coward, he killed himself? He would have had to administer the chemicals himself. It could be viewed that this highlights the selfishness of the wife. Though, it would have been a testing time for both.

your second one is Pro Life, so what else does one expect?  Peat's link (you got to it first) explains the Oregon law and what it really says much better.
 
with regards to the first comment in your 3rd link: We are talking about a very personal choice here, not what the spouse thinks the deceased should have done. If a person wishes to go before their situations deteriorates, why not? It was his choice, not hers. It was his life and his and no one elses decision to make.
 
I passionately and wholeheartedly believe in personal choice in this matter.

I can understand that Pro Lifers and health care professionals etc. are worried that this could lead to elder/ disabled abuse. That's why safeguards must be put in place and I cannot see why that should be such a difficulty.

However, what is the difference between a doctor prescribing a lethal dose for the private use of the patient and one that throws themselves in font of a train?
 
If you have been given six months to live, there is nothing to stop you from commiting suicide. If you are however disabled and cannot achieve the mechanics of ending your own life at your will, why then should you have that choice removed? Sounds very selfish.
 
I remember having a copy of a report from the US, where they have progressed to allow an individuals choise recognised, the majority of those who opted for suicide were middle class academics or profesionals.

I have yet to see an argument against this, that will convince me that I would be abused into commiting suicide. As there will be protection against abuse of such nature, I hope that I will, when I have had enough, be able to end it in the company of my family and friends in surroundings of my choice and pleasing. I have seen, heard of and known too many folk that have gone to other lengths to end their own suffering, sadly, mostly alone, in horrid surroundings and affecting others state of mind.
 
My friend sadly jumped infront of a train, he had cancer that was killing him and he was in excruciating pain, watching the video from the station that was used to identify him, you could see the pain and effort he put into this lonesome act. He died alone.

The research into where it has been accepted does not show this.
