Just bought a pint of Shetland milk in the new container that they introduced. It is a real improvement and seems to be more secure and they have left out that horrid plastic foil thing that me and granddad always had difficulty opening. Well done Shetland milk on the new container, I am quite impressed with the first pint container.

I wis never unhappy to begin we, but at least noo the folk who insisted on storing it on it's side despite keyning it wid leak will be happy

Community Opportunity for Participation in Enterprise
 
-was set up initially by Frank Millsop who worked at the Eric Gray Centre, back in 1998-99.
He started out with some of the clients, setting up a small tree nursery, and after the clients had attended catering courses at Shetland College, he set up a sandwich delivery service to SIC offices.
 
He managed to obtain enough support, grants and funding to take on 2 members of staff, and build the original COPE building opposite the power station.
Frank was a very enterprising and enthusiastic individual!

Last Ditchology, the electrical repair business, closed a few years ago. 
The Scrapstore is a recycling facility providing employment, support and training for participants.
Sorry if I sounded a bit snippit there, but COPE is primarily for the benefit of the participants.
They do go out of their way to help the general public, if they can, but the participants always come first

As it is run by tenants, I would imagine the tenants can be involved in what the Forum is doing, though there is an emphasis in the 8 tenant associations.

Yes it was muted a few years ago but there wasn't much interest so just looking again. 
 
We have public liability insurance for the premises anyway and extending the use to include fitness as well as football is no problem they tell me. Also the building is insured so contents would need to be added as well for equipment but that doesn't sound insurmountable. 
 
I thought we could do same as other small gyms for security and install a coded lock, changing the code monthly or so and informing paid members, who then sign in and out so we know who been there etc. Obviously there would be a degree of trust/honesty with this system that we would hope wouldn't be abused. I also thought that guests could attend if they were with a paid and inducted member and just put a few pounds in an honesty box for their visit, so that people could see what it was about before joining.
 
But as you say some costs would increase, so it all depends on numbers interested. I think we could get a nice peerie fitness gym without 20 mile round trip to Lerwick in the winter. It would be basic stuff, no heavy weights for powerlifting but appeal to the general keepfit person.

I am a little worried you find the possibility of someone having an accident worthy of a smile. Why would it be pleasing to you if they do? Crass!
 
It has been a dangerous junction for as long as I can remember. I have seen the aftermouth of one or two incidents. It is drivers that cause incidents, very rare is it the road. If a road does become a black spot, the council have to spend money to try and prevent drivers having any contact.

It might not stop people pulling out full stop but it will stop those who cut the corner to nip either in or out in front of on coming traffic. If my memory serves me right a number of accidents happen from cars not slowing down enough that end up cutting the corner and as a result of not being aware of the camber change, loose control of the car.

Islands can make a difference, with associated signage and road markings. Using a different surface colour and texture can also help. Rumble strips on all approaches to the junction alert the motorist that caution is needed.
I would make the junction a STOP junction, where cars have to stop befor pulling out. If drivers then still want to drive without any care or attention, there will be little to argue against. The island will also stop motorists cutting the corner.
 
Other options could be to force all motorists to slow down by reducing the speed limit and imposing a raised junction, though that in its self could create other hazards. Traffic lights and roundabouts have been mentiond, if more folk are injured or lose their lives, it could still come to that.

^Peat, you've presumably long forgotten what it is to have a crappy connection -  ISP's usually advise customers not to turn routers off, as keeping them "live" lets the equipment in the exchange know that the line is still viable, and so maintains the best line speed (at least that is my understanding). No doubt that will change as  smarter systems come in, but with all these ideal scenarios the changes are driven by financial considerations - and never those of the end user.
Electricity usage is often a very personal choice - so wastage can be a matter of opinion. I for one would go round the twist if I unplugged everything every night, and then had to reset the clocks on my cooker, microwave etc etc every morning. I pay extra to the Hydro to save my sanity - of which I have precious left as it is.
That said, I do know someone who pulls the winder out on his watch at night to stop the hands and (supposedly) save the battery

Cunningsburgh FC AGM was tonight and was desperatly poorly attended once again. We still need a secretary!
 
The idea was discussed to see if there was interest in having a small gym in the changing rooms during the winter months. 
September to March ish. 
 
If there was interest we could look at putting a treadmill, bike and rowing machine in one changing room and perhaps weights, punch bag etc in other room. A small changing room and shower would still be available. 
 
It would be quite low cost maybe £10 per month or something and might save people travel to Lerwick.
 
Really need to know if many people are interested before buying equipment etc.
 
Id think we'd need 20 members or so to get going. Then we might get more help running the joint!

It is an odd part that may not have been thought through and one hopes will come up in the readings. Folk need to keep in mind they need to petition members of the SGov to highlight this.
I am happy with a registration system, but am still uncomfortable with the full licensing part, as you mention, it seems that there will be an additional burden on owners and the Police.
