There are loads of things you will be able to get involved in through your work. Are you moving here for your probation? If so, you'll meet people through your probationer core days. Even though I am a local I met a lot of people during mine. One piece of advice I would give you is that if you don't drive, learning while you are here would be a huge benefit because as previously said the bus service after 5pm is pretty useless and it would mean you could get involved in much more. Winter isn't that bad as long as you wrap up warm! Another benefit is that you may be jammy and get a few snow days! Hope the move goes well.
