  1. Frankie, Here is a video of the act you just referred to. I hope that seeing it again in the cold light of day will not tarnish your memories too much ...
  2. Just to let you know, the Shetland Food Company did sell Stewarts Rum online until fairly recently, but they don't anymore. They are only selling Shetland lamb now.

  4. Vic, I'm in exactly the same situation. For some reason we were never able to get 'normal' Film4. We could only get Film4 +1. Now that Film4+1 has been axed to make room for C4+1 we don't have access to the Film 4 content at all. Maybe it is to do with the signal being weak where I live. Alternatively, it could be related to the fact that I bought the cheapest possible digi-box. Any good ideas to remedy the situation would be welcomed.
  5. Marjorie Williamson at Herrislea is another caterer well worth a mention. Again, the number should be in the book.
  6. There is no missing £1. Each man originally paid £10, but each then got £1 back. They therfore only paid £9 each. In total they paid 3 x £9 = £27. The £2 that the shopkeeper kept came out of this £27. (i.e. from the £27, the shop got £25 and the shopkeeper got £2). Where is the other £3 that makes up the £30? Each of the three man has £1 change each, making £3 in total.

Hi Nobby, I've just sent you a private message with some info about who to contact. Cheers
  8. There is more on this story in the Herald: http://www.theherald.co.uk/business/news/display.var.1273470.0.0.php See, in particular:
  9. I think Whitedale scored a few more late in the game, but I'm not totally sure of the final score.

  11. A couple of useful articles: From: http://www.morningstarmultimedia.com/html/2005/06/your-logo-is-not-your-brand.asp From: http://www.andyrutledge.com/logo-misapplication.php The Shetland Brand project is NOT about designing a logo that can be slapped onto adverts, promotional materials and products. It is (or at least should be) about much more than that. The team at the SIC are fully aware that branding Shetland (or, more accurately, RE-branding Shetland) is about much, much more than just a logo. The logo is just a tiny part of it. That is why they paid Corporate Edge, a company that specialises in national and regional branding to provide their services. (Incidentally, these services could not have been provided locally - I don't think there are is a section for Regional Branding Specialists in the latest edition of the Shetland phone book, but I may be wrong. If it was just about creating a nice logo, it could have been done locally, but it is about much more than that.) Now, paying over £100k to Corporate Edge if nothing is done to follow it up is undeniably ridiculous. The money that has been spent to date will be entirely wasted if no action is taken to make use of the information and ideas that Corporate Edge provided. What is (or should be) the next step for the project? I have no idea what the SIC has planned, but in my opinoin one thing that has to be done sooner rather than later is some kind of campaign to educate the people of Shetland about what has been done to date (and why), and what will be done from now on (and why). The Shetland Brand project is probably a very good idea, but without real action it will be just another example of wasted money.
  12. This Is Guernsey has a follow up on the story today. Entitled "Ogier backs down over Shetland ringers claim", you can see it here: http://www.thisisguernsey.com/code/showsportarticle.pl?ArticleID=015493
  13. I didn't realise Diana was dead. Did they ever mention it on the news?
  14. The Shetland Cricket Association is running 'come-and-try' sessions for the next three Sundays between 1-30pm and 2-30pm at the Anderson High School games hall. The SCA welcomes anyone who would like to give indoor cricket a try, regardless of whether you have played before or not. All equipment will be provided.
  15. Check out this story from 'This is Guernsey': http://www.thisisguernsey.com/code/showsportarticle.pl?ArticleID=015454 The part about the Shetland football team not defending their Island Games title is news to me, but this is the most interesting bit... What a twat.

  18. Its great news for Bootsy and co that the Smokehouse was saved. It would have been a terrible vexation if they had to find alternative jobs with funk-free employers.
  19. The Queens Hall is a fantastic venue and I have, on more than one occasion, travelled to Edinburgh specifically to attend concerts there. The Shetland Showcase concerts that were held in the Queens Hall not too long ago are amongst the best I have ever attended. It is a great venue, and I'd urge everyone with an interest in music to sign the petition to save it.

  23. Does anyone know when the grass at Nederdale was last cut. To quote one of my parents, "it is a hell of a sight".
  24. Excellent news. Well done to everyone who put in so much effort - its been an inspirational time.
