  1. The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster - I'm only about 50 pages into it, but so far it seems very intriguing.
  2. Mainlander has been enjoying a peaceful time reading about the Staney Hill and Girlsta Loch, and wishes Mr Clark good luck on his move south!
  3. Well, it arrived this morning, and it's working. The picture is not as crisp as directly plugged into the Sky+ box, but is more than adequate, the sound is perfect and my remote control works too! You lose the signal a bit if someone is walking about between the sender and receiver, but I expected that. There was a slight technical hitch due to the fact that the TV I was going to use it on is over 20 years old and didn't have a SCART socket, but a bit of swapping about of the tellies and everything was fine.
  4. Thanks, everybody I have ordered a whizzy 5.8Ghz sender/receiver which has 8 selectable channels as it was on sale 40% off, so hopefully there will be at least one that works! For a while I had a problem with my wireless broadband trying to connect to my neighbour's home hub (and even longer ago the first baby monitor I got used to pick up other people's babies crying!), so I did have it in the back of my mind that might be a problem. I had forgotten all about Slingbox, though.
  5. I already have Sky Multiroom, but having it moved to the room I really want it in now would be a very tricky wiring job which I just don't want. I have been thinking about getting a wireless sender and receiver and wondered whether anybody has any experience of these or can particularly recommend one? I would be particularly interested in one that you can use still use your remote to change the channels, if there is such a thing! Thanks
  6. Birds chirping outside my window!
  7. More to do with cheap electrical goods than supermarkets, I'm afraid, but I bought a Matsui telly over 20 years ago because it was the cheapest of that size screen in the shop and all I could afford; it's still going strong and has never had a repair! So cheap doesn't always mean nasty.
  8. I bought Neverwhere recently but haven't got round to reading it yet, glad to hear it comes so highly recommended!
  9. How about The Stand by Stephen King, Memoirs of a Survivor by Doris Lessing, or Down to a Sunless Sea by David Graham?
  10. Just finished The Scarpetta Factor by Patricia Cornwell, and just started Possession by A S Byatt.
  11. ^ Congratulations on your first anniversary! I remember reading your posts when you were planning your move, hard to believe that's a year ago.
