  1. Hi everyone, I'm a dobro/violin player in my late 20s planning a longer stay in Lerwick. As part of my preparation I'm trying to figure out whether or not I will be able hook up with people in my age group to play music, have a social life etc. I have this worry that young people from Shetland actually leave in their 20s to study or seek new opportunities on the mainland - meaning I would have a hard time finding peers. Could anyone fill me in on this? Is the mid/late 20s people present and normally represented in the Lerwick age distribution? thanks, Rune (from Denmark)
  2. Hey y'all, does anybody know if theres a place in Lerwick where one can find (possible rent) a place to practice a musical instrument, e.g. violin? Thanks, Rune
  3. Hey everybody, Im a danish dobro player who will be staying about a month or two in central Lerwick around April/May next year.. besides seing the sights, Id like to try and meet some musicians and hopefully incorporate some dobro playing in those fast jigs and reels!! I'll be there for the folk festival and am hoping to get in touch with someone there, but besides that does anybody have a tip or two on where to meet the local musicians? Do they hang around bars, music schools or some other venue..?
  4. Hi, Im a 27 year old dobro (squareneck) player from Denmark who visited Shetland around 2006 for the folk music festival. Ever since Ive had a little dream of going back for a few months and try to get involved with the music scene there - and hopefully get better at those jigs and reels! So Im hoping you guys here at Shetlink could give me some advice on where to look for accomodation or how to get in touch with the music scene.. Im looking for a 1 or 2 month rental in Lerwick around in april/may/june, so I can catch the folk festival while Im there. Does this sound realistic? Thanks in advance, Rune Jensen
