Mind you, the Kennedy Space Centre is is in the middle of the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, and they seem to co-exist happily enough.

@George. you've peppered this and many other threads with vague, inaccurate and often xenophobic posts about things being 'inflicted' on 'us' and how it is 'undemocratic' but have failed to offer any detail. You ignore questions directly posed to you about your accusations but you demand that other users justify their points. You're trolling, and it's tedious. You have also been warned and blocked several times so we're removing your repetitious posts and our fingers are hovering over the 'ban' button unless you back up your accusations with evidence or reasoning.
So in an effort to move on positively, please do provide some evidence or reasoning why joining the EEC or EU was undemocratic, why Westminster is undemocratic or what exactly Ted Heath, Anthony Eden, James VI or whoever else did that you don't like. Thanks in advance, the Shetlink admins.

You quote Evil Inky directly and mimicked his reply so apologies for thinking you were addressing him directly. I'm also coming up short on the repeated claim that there's numbers of posts claiming past referendums weren't democratic. To me that would imply Trumpish level claims of vote tampering and suchlike which I don't recall seeing much of anywhere.
I've seen plenty piddled off mentions about how, although Scotland as a nation voted to remain in the EU, we were taken out due to the voting power of England. You may rightly have a claim on such posts being against the "democratic will of the UK" - but do keep in mind we (Scotland) were told during Indyref1 that staying in the UK was the only way to stay part of the EU. When a democratic result is achieved through lies and false promises, that is true anti democracy in action.

Queen's Gambit is great. I really enjoyed it.
I don't imagine the chess club is actively meeting given the circumstances, but perhaps they're holding something online? I've asked someone and will post back if I hear.

@Davie P, I hope you don't mind but we added a poll to your post. We used the same wording as the 2014 referendum and added an undecided option too.

I see he's not pardoned himself or family... yet. But Steve Bannon (amongst others) gets a pass for ripping off supporters donating money to build his wall. I'm gonna go out on a limb here - stabbing in the dark as I go - and surmise Steve has a good deal of dirt on Trump and this is some sort of buy-off.

I can't take it any more! Hence the reason for seeking out this ancient tome of wisdom. Anyroad, here goes...

Folk looking to flog their stuff in the classifieds (Facebook too) who stick the price as "offers". Put a price! You obviously have some figure in mind that is acceptable to you, so put that (or even a slightly higher amount to allow for some wiggle room) in. Just sticking in "offers" looks decidedly shady IMHO.

    Seller: Offers.
    Buyer #1: OK, £1.
    Seller: No.
    Buyer #1: £2?
    Seller: No.
Buyer #1: What are you looking for then?
    Seller: £10.
Buyer #1: Why didn't you say that in the first place?
Seller: I was hoping someone would offer me £30.
    Buyer #1: You're a ding-a-ling.
    Seller: OK, £8.
Seller: Hello? Still interested Buyer #1?
    Seller: £7.50 and it's yours Buyer #1!
    Buyer #2: Hi there! £1?
    Seller: Oh FFS.

This is for the Scalloway Exchange; but the site works for any uk phone number.

this site lists cabinets in the exchange area, when/if they are being updated, with what technology (fiber to the premises; cabinet, or other; and who is making the temination equipment) and the probable date of availability.  The site is updated regularly as things change.  It works for any phone number.

Something odd going on in Scoop.  Not just recently.  It seems to have been for ages.  The staff are always smiling, and worse still it looks genuine.  I think that they are letting the whole surly shopping experience of Shetland down.  Not only that, but they are selling stuff that I want at sensible prices.  It has to stop, and soon.

Would you wonder if wearing a Gollywog suit would be considered wrong too? Perhaps it'd just be seen as something harmless? Wonder if anyone would like to debate and discuss that as a topic? Hmm?

I am beginning to think that this thread within the topic is more about the perception of "value for money' with regard to the "dogs".  Dogs against Drugs are more than just "dogs" - there are handlers and other pieces of equipment.  The seizure of heroin late last year is a perfect example of this in practice - police officers and "Dogs against Drugs" working well together.

Prior to the current position where the charity provides two handlers, two dogs  and the associated equipment the police used to provide one handler / dog while the charity provided the other. Now that the community / charity provide a second handler / dog the police are able to devote the former police dog post to addressing another issue - in this case the post is allocated to the Public Protection Unit dealing with offender management.

So, to answer your question - Yes if the money was all in the local police budget I would spend the same amount on the drugs dogs and a sign of that commitment is the marked Police 4x4 dog van. That is paid for from the police budget.

However you are right to ask about value for money. Personally I firmly believe that this should be expanded to look not only at the drugs dogs, but also the police and all those involved in delivering addiction services. The question we need to ask ourselves is - if we're working to the best of our ability, is the situation getting any better?. While I can answer in relation to the police and drugs dogs side of the question I'm not sure if anyone from the agencies providing addiction services is in this conversation - maybe it is a question for another topic.

I guess it is safe to say that you view substance misuse as an issue, so I'd value your thoughts on what should be done to address it?

The drugs dogs are a white elephant Suzanna, the majority of drugs found on the isle come from intelligence or tip off led busts, a drugs dog won't catch an unknown dealer unless they happen to cross paths while the dealer has a quantity of drugs on them and that's highly unlikely as a dealer will probably avoid going places you may find a drugs dog.
Anyone wanting to get drugs onto the isle just has to put a little thought into how they go about it and the drugs dogs are made totally useless, using any type of air tight packaging or simply driving a car off the boat renders the sniffer dog useless unless the police recieve a tip off telling them who to target. Your money that gets thrown at the drug dogs would be far better spent on services to help those with drug addictions issues, and education of the younger generations to encourage them to stay clear of drugs in the first place, but that education has to be has to be well thought out as current plan obviously isn't working.
And I'm sorry to say that your last sentence is a perfect example of how the current drug education policy doesn't work, it's tantamount to saying "don't do drugs, drugs are bad" without giving any reason why. Even the police admit that drink causes far more anti social problems than most recreational drugs do, there has been plenty of statements from the larger police forces down south stating that its easier to police a club full of Ecstasy users than a club full of drunks.
You could maybe do a google search on Professor David Nutt, who was at one time the governments advisor on drug policy, he is very forward thinking on ways to eventually win the war on drugs.
