  10. There is a maternity users forum meeting on Tuesday 12th January, 7.30pm @ Brevik House, Lerwick. This is open to anyone who is using, or has recently used maternity services either in the community, in the Gilbert Bain Hospital or Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. If you would like to express your views, or be involved in developing the way forward in maternity services please feel free to come along. Alternatively PM me for midwives contact details to contact them directly yourselves. The meetings are very informal, tea and biscuits are provided and any reasonable travel expenses are considered. The midwives and a volunteer are also going to visit toddler groups across Shetland this year to discuss any issues and ideas on how to further the maternity services and the forum group. Groups will be contacted nearer the time. We would also like to know if there is a better time/day for meetings. At the moment they are on Saturday mornings, 10.15 or a week day night, 7.30. Meetings are every 6-8 weeks. If you would like to come to a meeting but these times don't suit, let us know. New meeting dates and times to follow soon.
  11. I see a digger busy clearing the roads on Wormadale now. Hopefully make it a bit better for folk coming home fae work.
  12. Traffic on Wormadale seems to moving a bit faster now. Gritters have been up and down all day. Snow blowing of the hill is causing problems at the top corner.
  13. I'm on the committee that has been set up to raise money towards the refurbishment of the island accommodation. We sat up the fund as the accommodation has gone down hill and really needs to addressed soon. There have been plans to do the refurbishment for a while now and we are trying to find out timescales for everything happening. The accommodation is a fantastic idea and a lifeline for anyone being flown south at the last minute or anyone having to go to Aberdeen early to wait. It's just got a lot of problems at the moment! No sinks in toilets, floors are dirty, campbeds are torn apart, tv's don't work, keys missing so access to rooms, etc, etc! Pretty grim if like me you are down for a long time waiting! I stayed for a month though and survived! Would just be nice to bring it up to a good standard. We've had articles in the Shetland Times and the Orcadian recently and we've been on Radio Shetland too. The e-mail address to get in contact with us is amhiashetlandfund@btinternet.com. We've also got fund raising pages on facebook and Bebo too. You can also pm me for details on where to send donations to. Also the midwives have maternity users forum where anyone who has recently used any maternity services either up here or in Aberdeen can join and have an informal chat about the service, good or bad. Contact the Lerwick maternity dept for more details. If anyone is going to the island accommodaion just remember to take hand soap with you as they don't supply any!! Something nobody told me! Hope this long post helps!
