  2. Just a peerie note to Bryan to say thanks for clearing up the royalties issue!! 8O When we had a look at them many moons ago with SPB we got a mountain of confusing documentation that Mr Scott and myself pored over for ages befoe gleaning absolutely nothing of use from it!! I guess until a band is signed (we have to have our dreams!) the best thing is to self-produce your own promos and merchandise. Are there any websites that provide clear and straight forward advice on the thorny issue of copyright and royalties? Or is that another dream I have?!
  3. It's a question of what's trying to be achieved overall really, and nice one to the Shetlinkers for making the effort! It would certainly be good to see more Shetland bands playin down here, there's no doubt they could certainly "cut it" in the music scene as it exists in aberdeen anyway. Getting to know local promotors, eg Fudge here, would be a good starting point to at least kick-starting the word of mouth machine. A site would need to be actively pushing the bands, just having another search result isn't going to make a great difference. And the old bugbear of costs and accomodation for bands coming away to play, where payment for gigs is generally zero or thereabouts, is always there to consider.
  4. This is a variation on a theme I know but worth posting. If you want to see some dolmio ads given the weegie family touch, head to http://www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk/belters/pastavids/pastavids.html There's a lot of swearing so please don't go if you're easily offended!! If you're not, then get ready for a giggle!
  5. This is such a valid point, and as you said later in the post, it doesn't matter where you are nowadays as far as the net goes. Most searches people would do for non-traditional music would be by genre in the style they liked. How individual bands put themselves online, will dictate the response they get. I guess it's a case of the old cliche "you get out what you put in" It would be nice to have a co-ordinated site dedicated to Shetland bands and music, some-one's just got to get up and do it. Myspace is a great site for music, I've heard stunning music of all kinds on there, from all over the world. It makes location almost irrelevant.
  6. Would it be okay to have www.myspace.com/genevieveuk up as well?Long after the untimely demise of Solar Polar Bear I've recently found musical joy again in Genevieve. Hope to get home up the road at some point this year for a gig.
  7. Please do yourselves a humour favour and head to this link. http://www.glasgowsurvival.co.uk/belters/pastavids/pastavids.html Dolmio ads given the weegie family touch. Don't go if you're easily offended mind but if you're not, you're in for one hell of a laugh!
