  1. I have 2 bairns who have been / are at Scalloway secondary. I attended the Anderson in the 70's Our oldest went to the Anderson at 5th year. I was struck by how much better Scalloway was The Anderson in My opinion has gone down hill big time, Stirrer please look at the proportion of bairns going to further education from the Anderson that started out in a Junior-high to those that attended the Anderson only and I think you will be in for a shock, the Anderson is no longer a first tier school. First cuts should come in the likes of Hayfield house Stop the building of a Nursery in Tingwall Look at discretional services.
  2. Put this on the other night, I had heard about it and seen the trailers but after 5-10 minuetes it was switched off, It just made me angry. The only solution: All retailers accepting of goverment issed tokens. food tokens not cash Contraceptive inplants whilst on benifit. Child allowance limited to two children half of which payed in clothing tokens. I know there are genuine cases of people needing help, the welfare system was started up to help those, stopping them fall into poverty but it was designed as a 6 month safety net not a lifestyle choice! Many years ago in the US of A a black activist railed against the goverment for introducing the Welfare system there claiming that they had "Condemed my people to eternal poverty" as there was no insentive to go out and get a job and better thier position.
  3. EM Ian Carmichael; the actor, who died on February 5 aged 89, personified the affable, archetypal silly ass Englishman in scores of revues, light comedies, films and television programmes. Alistair Carmichael; MP for Shetland and Orkney Barmy Fred: Twat
  4. Have no real opinion on thier sexuality, but would wonder on thier judgment taking a 14 year old niece into a pub! And of course, all spoken in a pub is in deadly ernest?? Grow up!
  5. Remember the old saying: "When you sup with the devil make sure you have a long spoon" I think Ian will need one either way, Labour or Conservitive!
  6. After looking back through the last three pages of this forum I have formed the opion that very few of the people posting have actually walked the tops of these hills. I have, not all of then but a fair few in my youth. The very tops of a lot of these hills have already eroded back to bare rock. Secondly it seems that very few of those talking about a 200m strip of disturbance on the roads, have travelled on any of Shetland's roads, a queer pile of them "slicing" through virgin peat moor, with very little effect. Grow up and admit you don't want it to spoil the view and you would rather live in a museum than possible generate wealth and employment for future generations.
  7. PJ, Sullom already generates 50% of Shetland's Electricity and sometimes more. The Lerwick station is hard pressed now, when it has to run on it's own.
  8. Funny that! The Chief exec debate is dying out, so the chattering classes are back onto the subject of the windmills. I have lived in Shetland long enough to remember the handwringing and wailing that went on when the first salmon farms were proposed, same stuff, "how it was going to spoil the view", "poision the voes" and "stop the torists coming to Shetland". Now we have the Viking energy proposal, and the same "hug a daisy" brigade and nimbys are at it again this time boosted by thier children's voices. and before any body starts I live in Tingwall in the shadow of 5 wind turbines, and I am quite happy doing it. Have a walk up there and see what kind of "damage" it does to the hill. I belive those people out there that wants Shetland to remain frozen without development should try booking a seat in the museum, because that's what they want. Shetland deserves to be a dynamic go ahead place. And the comment placed on here earlier today saying the peat removal wasn't objected to for Total because they would get it anyhow but we can stop the council (paraphrase) is beyond belief, short sighted and small minded. think to the future think to what is going to keep your kids in work on the isles when they grow up! Rant over and out
  9. My limited experiance of dealings with the police has shown the police respond in kind to the public they are dealing with, keep it cool and civilised and they respond in kind, behave like a twat and you get it back in spades. As I say this is my experiance.
  10. I apologise if this has already been mentioned earlier but I don't have the time to read through all the previous posts on this thread. Is there a mechanism to surcharge the councillors, voting yes, part / full value of the payoff for Dave Clark if one is offered? Maybe this might just make them hesitate when handing around our money!
