  1. Just got a phone call from a teacher at BRAE HIGH SCHOOL telling us that the school is closed tomorrow. Dont know about others but according to other teachers, the BRAE HIGH SCHOOL IS CLOSED TOMORROW: FRIDAY 17TH
  2. You can also sometimes catch the school closures announcement at 6:30am some mornings depending on how quickly the Head of Schools make up their minds. If the snow has been really bad, you usually hear something by 6:30am but if its not been snowing so much overnight, then they will only announce it when the news comes on at 7:00am onwards.
  3. Blizzard here in Brae. Visibilty very poor. Cant see up North or Mossbank way.
  4. If you go to: www.listen2myradio.com , you can create and share a radio with your friends and on the net. I have one right now and its live now if you would like to listen go to: www.shetlandrocks.listen2myradio.com . or go to : www.shakyradio.webs.com . Thanks
  5. Brae School closed at 1:00pm, not 2:00pm.
  6. I can confirm now that the whole of the Brae High School has closed at dinner time. Not sure about others.
  7. Hey everyone, we recently got a new computer and im getting the old one in my room. Only problem is, we dont have to monitors and the one we used for the old computer we are now using for the new one, so im just looking for a monitor for a cheap price. Not looking for the ones with the big backs on them, just a flat monitor that someone may not ask to much for. If anyone has any please leave a message and i'll get back to you. Thanks
  8. Just a quick note for parents. For those of you that have kids in the north schools. e.g. Mossbank, Brae High School etc and schools up north, stay by your phone which the school has a contact number of yours, keep checking Shetland News, listening to SIBC or checking with the schools yourself as some teachers are saying that the schools MIGHT close if the snow continues. My cousins are at school at Brae and we were told to keep up to date with what is happening. You all probably already know this but i would just like to remind you of the situation. Remember, the schools will not DEFINITELY close, they just MIGHT if the snow continues.
  9. Started snowing heavily in Brae about 20 minutes ago now. You could see the blizzard coming into Brae from Mossbank way and the snow certainly came down. The gritter had been out just before so roads are clear but with care but the snow has started making them a bit white again. Wasnt big flakes but there was alot of it. The digger is out now clearing car parks and small roads so they should be clear soon. Other than that, the roads are OK but like i said, take care.
  10. As i said before but all would know by now: ALL Schools in Shetland are OPEN today, this includes the Eric Gray Resource Centre. Cancellations: Youth Clubs throughout Shetland are CLOSED today due to the weather conditions. There is no other cancellations in Shetland today as of yet. Local weather forecast: Snow is expected throughout the day, atleast up until 3:00pm where it should clear up and may just be cloudy. Snow could come back again throughout the night but may not last for too long. Either way, a cold night tonight. WEATHER WARNING: A weather warning is out for Shetland for icy roads over tonight. Temperatures could drop below freezing again tonight to give us a very cold and frosty start tomorrow morning. Snow could carry on throughout the week, but turning more wet and could turn to sleet and then rain from Wednesday onwards. Temperatures could rise over the week becoming more mild but still cold. Brae Road & Weather Report: About 10 minutes ago it started snowing heavily in Brae and still is.
  11. All Schools In Shetland Are OPEN Today including the Eric Gray Centre. Youth Club Closures Announced Throughout The Day.
  12. Blizzard here in Brae, it has been snowing like this for about 30 minutes. Visibility is poor and roads are VERY bad as snow has been laying down since the snow started. As the police say, drive with care and only drive if necessary.
  13. Weather Report: Brae: 5.40pm: I know you don't really need to know this now but as the Forecast has changed i thought i would post a message. The weather forecast for tonight and over the week shows possible snow showers for Shetland. The odd snow shower is to fall tonight but dying out between the hours of 00:00-0300 and staying clear for the night, but a possible frosty or icy start to Tuesday. Possible snow showers are to carry on falling over Tuesday. Wednesday is to be very sunny but temperatures reaching about 4 degrees celcius but not much higher. Come Wednesday night, snow showers are to come back for the rest of the night once again. Over Thursday, it should be a bright start to the morning and probably through the day, a possible light snow shower may come down over some parts of Shetland. Later into Thursday HEAVY snow showers are to return and that staying heavy through the night. Over Friday it is to be sleety snow showers heading in but a clear cold night for us. Highest estimated Temperature for the week: 5 degrees celcius. Lowest estimated Temperature for the week: -1 degrees celcius. As for the roads: Clear with wet patches with the smallest bit of snow in some places.
  14. Weather Report: Brae: 7:00pm: Well the roads are in a brilliant state. No snowfall or drifting over the day but has been quite windy but not too bad. Mostly clear skies now and overnight but at this time the moon is shining clearly but a few scattered clouds... The bright spells is to carry on over the weekend and over next week. Snow was reported for us next week but update on the television shows no snowfall for the UK but instead bright spells. The snow is expected to thaw starting Sunday.
  15. Road Report: Brae: 10:46am: Roads in Brae completely clear. Will probably stay the same over the weekend as if is to be sun. Not sure about North roads etc. but i am pretty sure they are exactly the same here. Some possible drifiting with heavy winds.
  16. I agree with: paulb. As he said, we have had two deaths related to snow, and if you think about it, they were in CARS. What we are talking about putting out now is BUSES. I'd say it's hard enough for buses to get round corners with snow and ice let alone try and stay on the road!
  17. I hope so too, because you will be able to give us hourly weather reports for the Brae area all day on Friday! Cheers for the reports, I enjoyed them Haha! Yeah i guess i can!! No problem mate, just trying to make sure people no what to expect and why the police are telling them to be careful! Cheers!
  18. Weather Report: Brae: 12:00am: FINAL REPORT OF THE NIGHT FOR DEFINITE: Ok, i know i said my last post would be the last but again, the weather has changed. HEAVY SNOW is now falling in Brae causing the roads getting a thicker layer of snow. THE WIND is also picking up causing drifting over most of Shetland i guess but from what i can see, definitely in Brae. If it carries on the way it does, i believe ALL SCHOOLS will be closed once again. Fingers Crossed! (For More Information Check Either: MET Office: Orkney & Shetland Weather Forecast or BBC WEATHER| LERWICK. Hope this helps!
  19. Is this the S.I.B.C weather report ? Well i just made it up by what i can see ... haha ...
  20. Weather Report: Brae: 11:30pm: This will be my last post of the night as i may have school tomorrow. At this time in Brae, very light snow is falling, it may possibly be getting heavier but it is unknown at this time. I also do not know which direction the snow is coming from. I think it is just falling from a cloud passing overhead. The Moon is still trying to break out of them clouds but there is a lot of cloud at this time over Brae. The clouds seem to be breaking up at some parts but most clouds are pushed together and look very heavy and dark. I wouldn't expect anyone to be going out driving at this time, but if you are, once again, PLEASE be careful on those roads. Thankyou and sorry i can't help you any further.
  21. I am not a teacher or part of the school board so i'm not saying this is definite but this is my thought on it. I think the North Schools ie Brae & Mossbank will be OPEN. Yes, it has been snowing quite heavily here, but if you think about it, it is meant to be Clear Skies tonight, and from what i can see now over Brae, it is already happening. Also, the gritters will be out at about 6:00am clearing the roads, so teachers will have plenty of time to get to the schools. Like i said, i am not saying that, that is a definite answer but it is my opinion. Now, i am NOT wanting that to happen as i am a student at Brae School, and i think everyone knows that kids would love another day off. I dont want to think it but i cant help thinking about it. But fingers crossed i am wrong!
  22. Weather Report: Brae: 10:46pm: I know i just posted a message but since then a small snow cloud has moved over Brae. The cloud came in from the North and has already begun heading to the South so as you can see, it is VERY small, just as i said before. It hasn't really changed the state of the road but as i said in my last post, the moon is beginning to break through them clouds so i can guess it will be a very icy start tomorrow morning on untreated patches. The roads may not be bad but PLEASE take care as you never know what is coming your way.
  23. Road Report: Brae: 10:35pm: At this time and probably for the rest of the night, the roads will remain the same with a thin-layer of snow covering it. The skies are clearing and the clouds are breaking apart. The moon is now shining behind a thin-layer of cloud.
