i am a bit concerned about the recycling project ....if i make a mistake in putting things in the wrong bin am i going to be FINED  for a simple mistake ...i am 77 years young and i have senior moments ...also will the bruck wagon come down my croft road to collect my bins ?  i am not able to drag them up the steep hill ...the S I C  and their blinkered wisdom has not thought the rural senario in the isles

I think it will cost the SIC money in as much as the increased time spent getting said wheelie bin off its fixings, dragging each bin to the lorry, emptying, dragging back and then refixing.

This whole process will take much longer than the usual black bin bag method.  I would even moot perhaps 3 times longer at each household.

The preparations and plans were laid much sooner, certainly, and that's not to the credit of anyone involved, but it was 1st Jan '73 when the fuse was lit and our souls were sold with the signing off on the deal.

I'm getting pretty close to the stage now of no longer caring about who gets unloaded, EU, Westminster, Holyrood or the SIC, we just need two from the four gone as a matter of urgency.

Four tiers cost a bankrupting fortune to just maintain, and by the time they all stick their oar in to everything, a bigger dog's dinner couldn't be created if they set out specificaly to make one.

I bought a wheelie bin, but as I can find no where to tie it down as the public road some 200 yards away that it kept blowing over before the essykert arrived. So I have resorted to a black bag and the old net. The roadway is not my property so I cannot find anywhere to erect a scaffold to tie my bin to. The Banks broo beckons.

So the US government are issuing an ultimatum it seems, stop shooting seals around fish farms or we
    wont buy your fish!
Is this the same government that overturned the ban on importing wildlife trophies from Africa and
elsewhere, including endangered species such as the elephant?
Has this caring and concerned US government considered banning its own ranchers from shooting coyotes
    that are harassing their livestock?
Is this the same US that is still using steel leghold traps that are banned here and elsewhere because
    they are inhumane?
Is this the same US government that seems particularly unconcerned about its gunslinging population
    shooting each other?
Fish farmers here have spent a fortune on protective measures to try and avoid shooting rogue seals,
but if all else fails have a right to protect stock, the same as a chicken farmer with a fox.
And to be blunt there is no shortage of seals around these shores so the shooting of the odd rogue
here and there is no threat to the species.
That last statement leaves me open to abuse but just trying to be fair and realistic here.

I thought it was pretty good. Prof Stephen Hawking was in it tonight.
Was it really 40 years ago it came out first?!

The obvious potential benefit for Shetland is the UK gaining control of it's fishing grounds and fisheries management. If this is handled properly the economic benefits could be huge.

There are also disadvantages though, the main one being a loss of funding for sectors such as agriculture and even fisheries. Shetlands crofting subsidy has dwindled to a shadow of what it was (mainly due to Holyrood reclassifying our land) but it is still a vital source of income. The UK could in theory replace this with our own funding mechanism but it is far from clear if that will happen.

Shetlands problem in many issues (fisheries management, crofting subsidy, delivery charges, transport costs, broadband provision etc etc) is that we are on the periphery and frequently ignored or overlooked by distant uncaring Governments in Brussels, Westminster and Holyrood. We often end up the victims of "one size fits all" policies which do not work in practice here. At least now one of those tiers of government will be gone.

fionajohn reacted to audi-ya-do in Less than honest police
After an incident this year. I was just wondering whether any one else out there has had dealings with the police where the police have, how shall I put it, been less than honest. I know things I said to the police had bits added and removed to make me look worse. Also the witness who was with me had the same done to them too. Obviously I won't mention names or what the case was. Also I am not looking for sympathy or support merely an interest in others opinions. This has probably damaged my trust in the police beyond repair. I know I have not come forward with information, when the police were requesting help, since this happened to me. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience in Shetland.

^ Agreed, becoming an ex-Councillor via the ballot box is a fast track to permanent oblivion. Those who get too cosy and see it as a job for life would do well to remember that, nobody is ever to high to have the feet kicked right out under them.

.We maybe can't force those that get elected to take the bull by the horns and put their house in order, but we can at least make sure those who "get with the program" and become part of the problem get a well aimed boot up the jackass.

At least this time round there are a few aboard who are making encouraging noises about doing things differently, but whether they're enough to get past the passive majority who sit saying nowt for fear it will rock the boat, and manage to rattle the ruling elite, only time will tell.

In some ways the near silent passive majority are the biggest problem these days, as they are preventing from happening through apparent indifference what the SIC needs to happen - a massive boat rocking session until only a crew of essential staff remain, and all the freeloading passengers are flung over the side to sink or swim for themselves.

They don’t all make it back we managed to Oust our arrogant ‘SIC Pup’ Oot Wast; he’d been walking in shoes half a dozen sizes too big far too long and didn’t listen to anyone out with the club! Don’t see his laughing buddies from the Select helping him now he’s no use to them! Should be a clear message to all Councillors listen to the public and do your job properly or your out!

From my experience, there is no point in voicing your opinion of what we would like to see on the old AHS site.

We can come up with sensible ideas like housing, business use, new much needed hospital, etc.

But the SIC will just bomb ahead with any idea they have regardless of anyone's opinion.

Probably be something that has limited appeal or something like offices to suite themselves.

Think you might find it's the council's own legal services department who overseen this lease agreement that now leaves them in this predicament without a leg to stand on, unless of course SLAP is feeling charitable! Another classic case of SIC management incompetence, More Turkey than Eagle I’m afraid! Certainly in the IQ department anyway, would be nice for once for someone to take some responsibility for their actions!

I have been riding solos for over 40 years, but fancied a ride of a combination. Just around a car park to see if it is something that I could take to. My interest has been piqued by research into Ural/Cossack/KMZ etc. Sidecarists are known for being a friendly bunch, so is there anyone here that can help me out with this?

    Thanks
